admirals- i would think that the facilities, quality of program and location would play a larger role.  most of the colleges in the E8 are pretty close in cost---as we have pointed out- IC being the priciest.

That was my point that the base cost at most are pretty similar, so the size of the financial aid package is a huge factor, but not the only one.

I don't know about IC, I do know about AU/SJF versus 'wick.

Well then who do they have an advantage over?

(nevermind, saw your other post)

So why doesnt Wick' give the same money on a need-basis?

"need-basis" I think there is a fuzzy definition for that. Is it the students needs or what positions the coach needs desperately to fill. Every school has there own formula and you have to be pretty far up the food chain to know what that formula is.

Oh ok.  SJF and Alfred cheat.  Thanks.

I dont think anyone is aruging that.

fisheralum91

ok- then i am missing something-----fa packaging?
can it really be THAT different?

admirals_vt

I didn't say they cheat. They apparently have more financial aid money to give out.
The formula I'm talking about is different at every school even when sports aren't involved. Has or did anybody out there get the exact same financial aid offer from 2 different schools using the same income info (unless it was zero)

How about an informal poll today? I assume most everyone on this site is either in or attended college, so lets hear from everybody on what was the deciding factor for you choosing the college you attended.

What i was getting at is that football, as compared to other sports, produces far fewer upsets.

Isn't this just basic probability from 7th grade math?  Football, as compared to other sports, plays far fewer games.  Therefore, Football has significantly fewer opportunities for a game to end in an "upset."

I would guess, without checking, that football games end in an "upset" at a relatively similar percentage to other sports.

This is how my decision went.

Ithaca- Went there, good FA package (About half) and I wanted to win a national championship at a good school

Hobart- A little better FA than Ithaca, also a good school, but football didnt seem as important there

Hartwick- Same package as IC, but cheaper anyway.  And my guidance counselor told me not to go there over IC.

Union- A little worse than IC/Hobart/Hartwick in terms of FA and I didnt like the people there.

Alfred- Didnt consider, too far

SJF- Never heard of it

Umass- more expensive than any of the above schools

RPI- Didnt know they had a football team till 2003

Maine- Coach told me to come but did not promise anything

Northeastern- Same as Maine

UConn- Actally some interest by the coach there late which I was suprised at.  But still the same money as all the other schools

Harvard- I didnt like the weightroom

They dont cheat.  its giving money to a male athlete and matching the same amount to another female athlete or student.
