What i was getting at is that football, as compared to other sports, produces far fewer upsets.

Isn't this just basic probability from 7th grade math?  Football, as compared to other sports, plays far fewer games.  Therefore, Football has significantly fewer opportunities for a game to end in an "upset."

I would guess, without checking, that football games end in an "upset" at a relatively similar percentage to other sports.
If football is so straight forward why do i keep losing money every weekend on my bets?  I must be missing something...

I didn't say they cheat. They apparently have more financial aid money to give out.
The formula I'm talking about is different at every school even when sports aren't involved. Has or did anybody out there get the exact same financial aid offer from 2 different schools using the same income info (unless it was zero)

How about an informal poll today? I assume most everyone on this site is either in or attended college, so lets hear from everybody on what was the deciding factor for you choosing the college you attended.

They dont cheat.  its giving money to a male athlete and matching the same amount to another female athlete or student.
In my experiences Fisher and AU give out more financial aid then Wick and IC... I dont know about Utica/springield/Norwich and I do not know why it works out that way.

Pep chose Morrisville because it had a two-year journalism school and Pep wanted to get right to his chosen career of sportswriting without two years of liberal arts before touching upon his major like at, say, Syracuse or St. Bonaventure. Pep would have happily gone to AU (tuition free) had AU offered journalism or, as it does now, communications.

Pep liked Morrisville because he got weekends off  ??? so he could go to Alfred football games!! Go Saxons!!

As one might gather, Pep has never played football, although Pep often surprises some people in pick-up games with his quickness, agility and overall pizazz. Pep has never played a band instrument (save kazoo and bass drum) or directed a band, yet Pep somehow finds a way to gather a bunch of football-loving AU students (and others) that do play instruments who together pose as a real live pep band. Go Saxons!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

+k for the post bosox---

i can give my 2 cents----
a million years ago--

fa91 had to choose from wick, colgate. fisher, potsdam, oneonta and slu.

remember---i played soccer---so D1 wick and colgate out---not to mention that i would still be paying off loans if i went to gate.
potsdam and suco---didnt like so much
slu and fisher----fisher treated me like gold and slu--so so.
also didnt want to go into the arctic tundra---
Fisher it is!

Jonny U and FA91 you help make my point on all the variables that go into selection.

In my instance:

Sacred Heart: D-1A, no play, lot of pay

Alfred: Almost full ride, but I live in a Mayberry, don't want to go to school in one.

Springfield: Good offer, but location...........?

'Wick: Had a great school visit, package was second best and coach really interested.

Norwich: Closest to home, but Mayberry and only Gomers

St. L.: Could never quite hook-up with coaches

SJF: Also never heard of, too far

WNEC: never got off there butt.

wick told me to seek out the coach!

You are all missing a major aspect ... I went to the wick because Oneonta State was across the street and on my recruiting trips I saw more ass there than you can shake a stick at ...

Okay gentlemen... looks like I can shed some light on this argument about financial aid.

I looked at Ivy league, Patriot league and some PSAC schools, obviously nothing panning out through them... however I would have been paying only a few thousand more through the Ivy leagues like Princeton and Penn.

My final three came down to Hobart, UR and Fisher... all were equal in cost give or take 1,000 dollars.

Never applied to Ithaca, St Lawrence was amazing but never gave them a real chance.

I know those aren't E8 schools I'm comparing but when it comes to financial aid I came to find out that every school is going to be somewhat similar if they want you.

The other schools I visited I don't remember the packages they offered because they weren't in my final decision making process.

Final thought... There is no cheating in getting more financial aid out there for athletes that are wanted by the staff and have the grades to get in.  I was fortunate enough to get money from all those schools because of my grades, they won't give out scholarships on sports alone... when it comes to D3 the grades are what can give you that extra aid to help...

Hope that helps a bit!

great to see ya runninrob!
hope to bump into you again at the AU game!
thanks for the insight!

Enjoyed the discussion so far today, but gotta get some work done this afternoon, hope it continues into the evening.

One last thought on school selection (sorry in advance Bosox) looked at Endicott, but could not bear to live with that many sox's fans.

Because your bets are determined by point spreads, not pure w-l columns.  Also bc the people that make those lines are employed to make those lines for a living that influences millions of dollars.  They use stats, variables and plug them into lengthy equations that are much smarter than you or I and smile while they take our money.  THere is a reason that Las Vegas has not gone outta business.
