I'm Vin Diesel...right?

I see Jose as more of a Jack type.

While Pep has yet to meet Jose in person, Pep still, based on Q's online presence, would tend to agree with the Jack Nicholson likeness.  +k

I always thought it was the cigars and the widow's peak but, maybe it is the purple suits.  Is that not lawyerly?

realistic

I'd say it's a lot on the widow's peak.

re: Recruiting.

Interesting discussion.  IC Football obviosuly has some holes.  Robby has already said the IC wouldn't give him the time of day.  I think many of the biggest factors have already been hit.  IC (and RPI, Hobart, most LLs, etc) have huge recruting areas, therefore a player really needs to be well know to get a lot of interest without expressing interest on his own.  Then the $$  and academic factors have to weigh heavily on the coaches before the really go all out for a recruit.

However, I never have understood the coaches that seem to actively dicourage athletes from coming to IC.  I respect telling them that it may to tough to play but they should come out anyway...if they get cut they get cut.  Some very close friends of mine are guys who came to IC ot play Lax and Soccer and got cut.  They all loved their IC experience and don't regret going.

Furthermore there are the ones who are told they won't play at all and end up being stars..... if a coach hasn't seen them play they dont know and should say they won't play.  My sister was encouraged not to try out for Softball at IC and started for 4 years.

TGP has done some statistical analysis on the Saxons and has determined that the Pep Band may actually be causing AU to get into penalty issues (probably b/c the team is listening to the band and forgetting the snap count).

AU is currently averaging 100/yds a game in penalties.

TGP wonders how many of these are caused by noisy kazoos?

I tried to put the whole academics/recruiting business to bed yesterday and that mandate has obviously gone largely ignored

So if you cannot beat 'em, join 'em:  I was never recruited (back in the early '90's).  I was a H.S. receiver on teams that consistently ran the ball 50 times per game (Aquinas in Roch).  Vosburgh (I didnt know him at the time) came to visit our H.S. and I recall seeing a couple of my teammates getting passes to go visit with 'some coach from Fisher'  I was enraged when I found out that a team that just finished its '91 campaign by going 0-9 (2 td's all season) thought that I was not worthy of its little meeting.  I vowed to go there (i really had no other options for football anyway), become a starter, and be the most productive college football player out of my H.S. class.

I called Vosburgh myself at his personal residence over the summer after graduation and left him a message.  He impressed me by calling back that same night and inviting me to camp.  When I showed up amongst over 75 new players (freshman and transfers from HVCC) I was quite intimidated, but pleasantly shocked when Coach V. came up to me and called me by name even though he had never met me (probably figured I was the kid who called him and knew I was the only kid he didnt recognize)

I busted my a$$ for the next 3 weeks and was rewarded by Coach V. by making the Varsity travel team in Week 2 to Merril Field.  Both of my camp roomamtes who were All-county selections in Section V sat home that weekend...as did all of my teammates from AQ who were playing at Buff State and Alfred.

Is DewCrew sending messages to E8Nation via Around the Region?

"At the snap, Cardinal backup quarterback Tommy Hammel rolled out to the right out of the shotgun and was stuffed by a host of Hartwick defenders, including outside linebacker Corey Rolling to ice the game for the Hawks."

When I read this I thought it was an odd place to single out one specific player.  Then I realized the singled out player was none other than HawksNation.

""Corey made the initial hit and Joe Flaherty and Colin Plass cleaned it up," Carr told The (Oneonta) Daily Star. "I don't want to second-guess them, and I can't fault the (Fisher) coach for going for the win on the road.""

Old DC08 follows it up, however, with this quote which I read to really mean: "Corey missed the F-ing tackle but Flaherty and Plass mopped up his mess."

This only compounds the mystification of the playcalling.  If their OLB that you are running towards is as small as he was listed (180lbs, being generous) then why are you running a sweep type play with a backup QB?!?  Why not run straight at him with a lead back and blow his midget ace up?

JQV

Speaking of Hartwick, where the hell did all their posters go?  Was this a one-day phenomenon?

I wasn't recruited athletically...I played varsity golf in high school (not very well either).  If IC had a golf team I would have tried to walk on.

I didn't really take the whole college admissions thing all that seriously, I did well on the standardized tests so I got lots of literature from colleges big and small (I still remember the laughable tagline from Messiah College: "Rigorously Academic, Unapologetically Christian.  A quick no thank you from this Jewish guy).  In the end I only applied to IC (for the Sports Info and Comm. program) and the U of Michigan.  UM would have been a gigantic financial burden while IC gave me enough scholarship and aid to reduce the cost down to SUNY levels.  Case closed.

Good morning, E8 Nation!

Anyone interested in listening to the WLEA-AM broadcast of Saturday's Empire 8 contest between the Hartwick Hawks and Alfred Saxons can pick it up on the internet by visiting www.wlea.net and clicking on the "Listen to us Live on the internet" at the right. Bob Codispoti has the play-by-play.

If you're lucky, you'll be able to hear the AU Pep Band in the background, making noise at Merrill Field.  ;)

Pep is wrong! Pep is wrong! Impeach the chair! Impeach the chair!

Pep has learned that WLEA, while broadcasting the AU-Hartwick game on WLEA-AM, they will not webcast the AU game as they will be webcasting via its FM station the Haverling (Bath) vs. Hornell football game that is being played simultaneously. Hornell and Runnin'Robby25's alma mater are undefeated heading into that game.
