Got to go for the night. For the record soopa:

1. I'm still here after a loss and
2. Although I'd would've really enjoyed the win it would've seemed hollow if you were gone for two weeks.

awww... I'm touched...+k

As the topic of the day must be AU's pass defense and of course the fantastic performance of the PepBand, did no one else notice Vincent Jimi Hendrix gained 137 yards at an average of 6.0 yards per carry.

Pep could run for 100yds vs Hartwick.....

Thanks, Upstate. Fact is, Pep DID beat Hendrix in a short sprint, much like Pep beat the drum today.
Pep don't like to work, Pep likes to bang on the drum all day!
BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM....

Great Homecoming crowd today at Merrill Field. Much excitement in the air...Pep was pleased with the turnout of students, alumni, and as always, the parents. Pep was disappointed that given the importance of today's game, Hartwick couldn't muster more than 100 fans to travel to the game, but Pep is reminded that Hartwick, unfortunately, is a soccer school. Hats off to the Hawks, however, who put up a great fight and kept AU fans on the edge of their seats.

The combination of sitting in the sun for 3 1/2 hours (that was one heckuva L O N G game) and the ridiculous amount of scoring, turnovers, penalties, left Pep very much drained....but also pumped with the win. Oh, and can we PLEASE get someone who can operate the clock? Was it four or five times that play had to be delayed to correct the clock? What's that about?

Pep was particularly pleased with the AU Pep Band turnout that essentially quadrupled last week's band! And Pep is getting compliments galore on the band's sound this season. Pep thinks AU being 5-0 may have something to do with it. Things always sound better, taste better, feels better when your team is winning.

During Pep's library coffee break yesterday, Pep randomly asked a student whether he played a musical instrument. He said that five years ago he had played baritone....Pep told him the band has a baritone no one is playing, could he meet us at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Saterday) at the band room. The kid was there at 11 a.m. Pep gave him a pep band shirt, which hs set aside. As we're preparing to head out to the tailgaters, Pep asked him whether he was going to put his shirt on.

"Oh, are we playing TODAY?" he asked. Pep replied, "We sure are, we've got a big game today and we're playing at it." Apparently he thought he was attending a practice. "We're throwing you right into the fire." Pep was pleased that our rookie trombone player took the newbie under his wing and worked with him on the band's music....Sixteen on the bandwagon today. Any others out there want to hop on?

All in all, an excellent day. Pep extends his kudos to the Hartwick team on playing an outstanding game and wishes them the best of luck the rest of the way. It was no fluke that the Hawks beat both Ithaca and Fisher at the cage. They are an outstanding team. And, Pep applauds the Saxons for overcoming a day filled with adversities...now Pep plans to check the stats before retiring for the night.

Pep would welcome some musical instruments in the hands of AU's opponents. Makes games much more fun. Heck, Norwich had a 50-piece marching band (outstanding) but it retreated after their halftime show, leaving only the artillery at Sabine Field, which was no match for AU's four-piece purple peppers.

Hey KAZ, obviously you were at the game. Question: How did HC's O-line hold up today? Was AU blitzing much?

Only 2 sacks of Boltus that I can remember.  There could have been a third.  He was hurried a bunch of times, but he's so good that he turned most of those broken plays into first downs.  There were a couple times when our D-Line really held Wick back in short yardage situations.

The biggest compliment I can give is the way Wick hung in when they fell down 35-16.  It felt like they were one bad series away from packing it in, but they kept fighting and never stopped until the final interception with a minute left.

They have a hard time picking up short yadage with the run. Carr has focused on the passing game (he has said we're a passing team and thats it) and you can't really argue with that from the results. I don't know if it is lack of working on technique or he doesn't feel he has the personel on the line to run block. The o-line is young 2-jrs & 3-sophs, with only 1 of the jrs. being a starter last year. This year isn't finished by any means, but the way the line and Boltus work together next year could be scary.

Kaz00 and Pep were talking during the game about how the 2007 Hawks reminded us of the 2005 Saxons in that both teams seemed to be building and finding their footing, had an opening game loss that wasn't representative of the season and played good teams tight.  Wick could be a real contender next year, though they'll face the same problems as the 2007 Saxons in the biggest games being road games.
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

kaz... I agree that Wick is getting better but losing crea will be a hard loss...Boltus will have a good senior year...but with out crea it will be tough...

Tecmo had a wedding toniht at the same time as the game, so I was sending him inning by inning updates until the unfortunate end.  The cubs were losing after the first pitch which sailed over the left field wall and they never stopped losing. tecmo responded with a final text "sadness"

So I'm just thinking.  Whatever team wins out will get into the playoffs between AU SC SJF and Wick right??

Au wins out and obviously they get it.

SJF wins out and they would tie AU if thats the only game AU loses

SC wins out and SJF or IC beats AU then SC ties

Wick WINs out.... wha now im confused.

What happens if two teams are 5-1 in conference?

say SC wins out and is 5-1

and AU wins out and they are 5-1. Co champs. Does head to head determine AQ? i dont know the playoff system so well

AUPepBand

One need only look at the 2006 standings to answer that question. Both Fisher and Springfield finished 5-1 in conference play, with Springfield awarded the AQ based on its head-to-head win over Fisher. Fisher ended up getting an at-large berth. And the rest is history.

I haven't read up on the posts so I'm sure I won't be saying anything that hasn't already been said.  Congrats to today's winners.  The Bomber win was a heck of a good time - lots of new recruits (a few lookers too!), lots of cheering, lots of media sluttery.  And while there were definitely still some weak spots, it seems that IC is working on many of the problems that have been previously noted.  Receivers were making catches they had to (crandall!), the running game got moving well (especially baez, who hadn't been impressing me very often this year), and the 1st-and-hair's-width goal line stand was nothing short of Spartan.  Good job bombers, good job FDC.  I jingled my keys along with Chuck when I saw him do it on the TV at work.

that makes me throw up a little in my mouth ... you should have seen the school attempt to push the soccer team at wick once in awhile.  At a homecoming one year they had one of the events at the soccer game .... they kept telling everyone to get into the stands and once they were full they snapped a pic and used that pic to show everyone how poopular soccer was ... bonk ... nobody goes to the games.
