...or 3) 'Wick posters: why you lost to a team from an inferior conference or 4) AU posters:  what the record of the Pepband's opponents opponents are...
No other posts are allowed unless Sharpe is passing the ball to himself

AU Pep Band's opponents' opponents had no contests.

But 82, to be honest, not really catching your drift on this. Explain.

We were all over that lone UofR trumpeter in the ECAC bowl last year and we took down the Norwich marching band.  Those are two strong opponents with very high national ranking!

In 2004 Pep traveled to a contest at Wick with a small entourage of a band.  AU was 4-1 (I think) at the time and I dont think that Pep or the team was quite used to the idea of winning consistently in the E8 yet or the pressures that came with it.

As AU was walking down the hill to the said game, the national anthem began....  and then stopped.  It then began again... and stopped.  The girl singing the anthem couldn't remember the words.  She began a 3RD time and SPRINTED off the field when she forgot the words again.

Later, in the same game, we scored a TD to ice the game late.  Thats when Pep struck up the very small band (3-5 at most)!  Wick had some students there with 2 things on their minds- 1)get drunk, and 2) heckle the crap outta anyone and everyone associated with AU.  One of these students then started heckling the band and shouted something to the effect of "Nice Band!".
At this point, my brother, also with the same two ambitions on his mind, leaned down from the top railing so that he was almost hovering over the Hartwick fan and began yelling, "Were you here for the F@#*ing national anthem?!?!

I would say that Pep was the emphatic winner in that contest, too.

Sorry I missed the heated baseball discussion.

My two cents:

a) Complaining about money in baseball really is a red herring.  The rules do not prohibit spending so the teams that want to win can spend.  In reality, all MLB teams have access to funds to spend on players and spending does not always equal wins (See Baltimore and Los Angeles, two of the highest payrolls in baseball over the last 10 years).

b) The real money advantage the Yanks-Sox have over everyone isn't in getting name players.  Most teams can sign big free agents (with the exception of the stratospheric FAs like A-Rod, Dice-K, etc.).  The Sox and Yanks advantage is in giving role players multi-year guaranteed deals.  Most teams can give a guy a multi-year guarantee but, if they do so, they need that guy to be on their 25-man for those years.  The Sox and Yanks give those mid-level guys multi-year deals but can afford to cut them and continue to pay.  (I am thinking of contributors to WS teams like Brosius, Luis Sojo, Dave Roberts, Gabe Kapler, Mark Bellhorn, etc.).  The Rays, for instance, could sign these guys to the deals they got.  But these guys would still be on the Rays' roster today instead of making one or two big plays and then being cut or dealt.

c) Not sure who said it a few pages back but who would you call the Best Hitter, Pitcher, and Closer in baseball on the Yankee roster?  I can think of a few closers I would take ahead of 2007 Rivera (Valverde, Papelbon), hitters I would take ahead of A-Rod, and tons of pitchers I would take ahead of any of the Yankee staff.

Yeah that was me but i was more along the lines of grasping at the past with rivera clemens and Arod (the present arod, the dude is gonna hit 1000 HRs)

I agree with most about what you say above but..

a) Although the highest paid teams dont always win short playoff series, you can see that the lowest paid teams are almost always at the bottom, (rays) and the higest paid teams are always at the top (yanks, sox).

b) I agree that the sox have an advantage in signing medium players (Miller, Varitek, Crisp, Nixon) to meidum price long range deals, but the sox and yanks have their biggest advantage in signing the big players.  And any team can sign one big player, but the sox and yanks can sign and pay 4-5.  And the sox and yanks can afford to get rid of them if they dont work out.  Not many teams can sign (Shilling, Ramirez, Beckett, Lowell, -resign ortiz-) like the sox can.

c) Im gonna say a-rod is the best REGULAR SEASON hitter in baseball but the yanks do not have the best pitcher or closer.....

Pep has told that story, truly a source of inspiration, at each band camp since. Thanks, Sarge!

Pep is amazed at how quickly new band recruits have bought into our "pep band program" and grasped the purpose, importance and spirit of the band. While the band has been in existence since its kazoo roots in 1999, adding other instruments in 2000, 2007 seems to be the band's true breakout year. While Mid-Semester Break has been a real AU pep band nemesis in the past, it appears AU Pep Band will for the second straight year overcome the scheduling adversity and muster enough musicians to make some noise this Saterday against Utica.

Pep is grateful for the fantastic support of Saxon parents and fans. The band has now sold more than 150 pep bandanas since initiating the fund-raiser last season. Also, the band is recipient of a generous gift from an AU alum to assist the band with travel costs and likely an equipment purchase. Likewise, the band is recipient of gifts-in-kind for travel. Pep is happy to report that 2007 will be the first year the band has played at EVERY Saxon game....with thanks to all those who have been so supportive.

Were there national rankings for D3 bands, Pep would humbly suggest AU Pep Band might be in the Top Ten in the country...in the "pep band" division. Marching bands are out of Pep's class, although AU Pep Band has fearlessly taken them on, and with good success.

my best memory is from the 05 Fisher-Ithaca game...I had a sideline pass for the game as I was the photogropher for the School paper...as I was leaving the game...some old man tried to fight me and then got arrested...and he was trying to fight me because I was wearing a fisher shirt...it was pretty funny

I'd have to say that the biggest advantage the the high-payroll teams have in baseball is the ability to eat bad contracts.  Contracts like Kevin Brown or Carl Pavano would crush a small market team for years.  Teams with money can throw them to the curb, and find another alternative.
Thousands of fans join in the revelry, showing their Bomber pride and support for the football team. Some fans take the rowdiness a little too far, however, by starting fights, damaging property and tipping Port-a-Potties. -Ithacan, November 10th

I'd say that the pep band's greatest strength is in not being officially affiliated with the music department.  What we lack in tone, rhythm and direction we more than make up for in exuberance and attentiveness to the game.

that is the same reason the FDC has had so much success.  NOT being affiliated with the school.

Ok so we have the Alfred posters who are all in their own world...and have all sorts of conversations with themseleves...

We have the one springfield poster who feels like the kid who got picked last in kickball...when he used to be the big boy on the playground...

Then we have Yanks and Bosox...who are new hartwick posters but they are ok they know what they are talking about... and then we have admiral who is along the same lines of the one springfield poster...

Then their are the Fisher and Ithaca posters...they dominate the E8PP so guess what the talk is going to be about Fisher and Ithaca...as the RPI posters would say It's Science
