While we seem to be looking so forward, does the Saxon victory over Husson actually mean anything?

What does the NCAA have to lose??  MONEY.  PERIOD.

What money does the NCAA get from the bowl system?

I'm not sure if they get any part of the revenues.  But the teams that play in the bowl games, along with their conferences, get a large chunk of money.  Plus, teams make money from ticket sales, apparel sales, and television contracts.  I think the NCAA is happy with the current system because interest in Division 1 football is greater than ever.  And, like I said earlier, upsets inside a tournament might have a profound effect on fans interest as well as ticket sales and revenue from other sources like sponsorships.

I guess I dont really know why there is no tournament.  There should be dont get me wrong.  But, the common thought of people involved points to revenues as the main reason why they keep the bowl system.

Duh,

Again, is there anyone on here that can explain to me how revenues to whomever are greater with a bowl system than if there were a 6 or 16 or 32 team playoff?

The ratings for those bowl games and final 8, final 4 and the championship game would be bigger than any game in the history of college football I bet.  And the NCAA can say who does or doesnt get the money!  Thats my question.  Obviously money is the factor...

AUPepBand

For the first time this season, Pep relinquished the bass drum as AU Pep Band had three strong percussionists Saterday at the Alfred-Husson game. Pep particularly enjoyed the band from afar for a change. It's one thing to be in the midst of all the noise. It's entirely different being at the other end of the stadium listening. Pep really liked what he heard...a fabulous rendition of "Wipeout" with a nicely performed drum solo by Phil Dickerson.

After running an errand during halftime, Pep returned to get his halftime hotdogs and took the opportunity to sit with family for a while and once again, had opportunity to hear the band from a distance. Pep is proud as a peacock of this year's band. Merrill Field Public Address Announcer Dr. Bill LaCourse reported to the crowd on Saterday that the AU Pep Band had been named Empire 8 Pep Band of the Week after its performance at the Utica game. Kudos to the band....which now is preparing to take its show on the road!

I hate to say this...but congrats to the Red Sox.  I have been saying it all week to those around me...that was the coolest down 3-1 team I have ever seen.  It is going to take a miracle for the Rockies to hang with that team if they come to play.

The last 3 weeks of the year should be great.  BoSox...big games this weekend are Ithaca at Springfield and Alfred at Hobart.  Absolutely BRUTAL schedule to end the year for both Ithaca and Fisher.  Ithaca at Springfield, then home games against Alfred and Cortland.  Alfred ending with 3 on the road against Hobart, Ithaca, and then Fisher.  Key point...Fisher (who plays Utica this week) will get two weeks to prepare for Alfred.

My head tells me that Alfred is in the drivers seat...and if they run the table with this schedule...they in my opinion become the clear cut favorite in the East...with a great shot at the Final 4.  But that is a ridiculous schedule to end the year.

Although a win over a (then) 5-2 then may mean something, I don't see it as big win for AU.  Husson was beat handily by SC and well, they haven't exactly had a great season.

AU's season really starts this Saturday and runs thru the next 2 weeks (and hopefully into the NCAAs) with IC and SJF.

I am an AU fan this season, just not this Saterday.

This makes it sound as if the Pumpkinheads and Saxomaphones will be playing Quidditch on Saturday.  Caz predicts Alfred will catch the Snitch.

sarge- we will see.
to see him in action is to understand the level of talent!

I dont know this kid and have never seen him, but...  if I had to make a prediction on just what I have heard from my always knowledgable (is that a word?) colleagues on the E8 PP boards, I would say that he has a good game.  Maybe around 10 tackles, maybe an interception late due to SJF being up.  Solid, nothing GREAT.
Why?
Cause I first ask myself, "Is this kid on the same level of a Brenton Brady?"  The answer I come up with is a resounding NO.  Over 4 years, what did Brady do against SC?  He was solid.  @10 tackles and assignment perfect, allowing everyone else to become better, as he was prolly a big part of their blocking focus throughout the week and on Saterday.
Not only that, but Brady was a LB, someone who would be involved in much more of the defensive part of the game.

SJF wins by 17pts.

Sarge,

Stepnick turned out to be a big factor against Springfield.  They play him at Free Safety against SC (same as in 2005 and 2006) which allows him to fill the alley and make tackles on the outside option play to either direction.  Stepnick finished with 17 total tackles on saterday, with 2 tackles for a loss.
