Just a quick side note from the normal conversation...

Has anyone looked at Mount Union's stats this year. The defense is just rediculous...They have given up 24 points this entire year, and have not given up a single point in the last 5 games. It is almost not fair that teams have to play them. They should just practice all season, and then have all the other teams in DIII have a playoff to see who would lose the least to them.

GO FISHER!!!

Maybe, but it's pretty accurate.

Easy Tags...it wasn't that long ago...I would say about 5 years ago...that Fisher was the Curry of the E8.  It certainly doesn't downplay where the SJF program is now, especially with a Final 4 berth last year.  However, when you look at what Fisher has done the last few years, it hardly resembles that of a long term national power like MUC, St. John's, or Rowan back in the day.  It actually looks a lot more like RPI a few years back...pretty good every year, one breakout year with a Final 4 berth (who played very well against the would-be NC's in St. John's), and then has never really taken the next step to get back to the promised land that is the Final 4.  Take a look at how SJF has done in the league over the last few years:

1) E8 Co-Champs in 2006 (tiebreaking loss to Springfield...however, great job taking them down in the playoffs and reaching the Final 4)

2) 3rd Place in 2005 behind Ithaca and Alfred, and a loss in the ECAC's to RPI

3) E8 Co-Champs in 2004 (with the tie-breaking win over Ithaca, a great double OT game up at Fisher, which at the time was the signature win for the program...and then 1-1 in the NCAA's)

4) 2nd Place in 2003 behind Ithaca, and an ECAC win over Cortland

5) 3rd Place in 2002 behind Ithaca and Hartwick

6) Independent, and pretty much a patsy for most teams...ended year with 3 wins (St. Lawrence, Utica, and Mass. Maritine)

Summed up...one GREAT year (last year), some pretty good teams the years before that, and the potential to have a great run this year.  4-2 in the NCAA's, 1-1 in the ECAC's over the last 4 years.  2 x Co-Champs, 1 x Runner-Up, and 2 x 3rd Place finish over the last 5 years.

In talking with someone else yesterday I posited that we might be able to combine UWW and UMHB and not come up with a team that could beat MUC.  :-\

I think they could compete with all the D2 teams, as well as alot of D-1AA teams.

D-1A is another story.  Those guys are just on another level.

Can someone explain how the d3football top 25 is formulated? Is there a voting poll? Is this computer generated? I got curious when I saw that Capital is ranked 17th in the country yet they have two loses. Ok, I concede that one of them is to the monster Mount Union but I also noticed that they lost to 5-4 Otterbein and barely squeaked by 0-9 Muskingum. I am not trying to knock the ranking, just simply trying to understand.

Oct. 20  1:30 PM  at Otterbein * •  L, 17-10
Oct. 27  1:30 PM  Mount Union * •  L, 37-0
Nov. 3  1:30 PM  at Muskingum * •  W, 19-13

Thanks

Just curious on why Tags seems so quick to bash another team in the E8 on a national level.  On the national level, I would think it would benefit the whole league to get a Pool C bid this year and ensure there are two E8 teams in the NCAA's.

On a secondary note, just trying to show that Fisher hasn't been this long term "power" that people claim for them to be.  They are absolutely on the right track, and are certainly geared up for another great run this year.  But if you look at the facts, they have "only" won two league titles in the last five years (none of them outright...though they get the nod over Ithaca in 2004 because of the head to head win in double OT), have finished second once, and third twice.  Listen...Fisher has been extremely impressive over the last few years, and can play with anyone.  But their overall success has really only occured in the last several years.  Ithaca, on a side note, should really be considered the league "power" as they have been involved in 4 of the last 6 E8 championships.

Wow Yanks you have said some pretty profound stuff that has never ever been coverered before, seriously good job nobody has ever brought up Fisher's brief history before...This is groundbreaking stuff.

What Fisher fan has ever claimed Fisher to be a long term "power" as you say, because I have never seen that.

And I'm glad you heart Ithaca so much, it's cute and I'm sure they will like you tickling them the way you do....It probably makes them giggle with glee

Thanks, that was too obvious. It will be interesting to see where they land this week.

Is it the overall conference strength that drives a Capital to be ranked as high as they are with 2 loses and a close one to an 0-8 team?  Any thoughts on how OAC matches up with the E8 (excluding MU)?

Yanks99:  First, Tags posted nothing about SJF, 'WICK or about anyhting else that you are referring to.  It was my post that BoSox got bent at for some reason.

My post did little to bash 'Wick, just mentioned what a shocker it was for them to beat SJF, IC and SC in the same season.

And you obviously have no clue who Curry is because you seem to think that a 'Wick comparison to them was meant to paint 'Wick as a doormat...Curry goes to the NCAA's quite often....they just get smoked in round 1, so I was simply predicting that 'Wick would meet the same fate should they beat Utica next week.

Re-read the past few pages...I am one who has given 'Wick alot of credit for their season.  You should not create animosity where none exists.

And I  second Booby's call for you to find one SJF poster who has called SJF a national power year in and year out.

mpf1975

Saw some great points over the last 24 hours.  Nice to have the E8 getting people's "hair up".   What is great about this year, we have 4 teams that have legitimate arguments they should all be in post-season play.  In fact, all four teams are right - they should all make post season play.   And that may still happen.  However, it is quite simple:

SJF   - win or lose they are in
Wick - win (AQ) or ECAC (the WNEC is a killer)
AU    - win (AQ) or ECAC (only if IC loses)
IC     - win or lose: ECAC either way

Winner or the E8 gets the higher seed (that's the way it should be), SJF will get the Pool C (assuming both wick and Fisher win).  AU and IC both get ECAC, however IC needs to beat Cortland and AU needs to have a good game against Fisher.  Otherwise, to many good teams in the east to get both an ECAC game.

By the way, Springfield is the best 3-6 team on the planet.
