Yes, Ithaca 7 appearances, 3 Chamionships...Mount has 10 appearances and 9 National Championships.

How close was that St. John Fisher/Mount Union game last year?

26-14,

Fisher had a first and goal from the three with a few minutes left, down by 5. A field goal attempt was blocked, and MUC took the next drive down for a score.

That was a solid game from Fisher.  This Mount team, scary as it sounds, is better than last year.  It's going to take an unbelievable game to beat them.

I've been watching Mount since the 1997 season (ironically enough I graduated from John Carroll in '06), and this is the most complete team I've seen.  In years past the defense was prone to giving up big plays, or the offense was not as balanced, but this year I can't find a chink in the armor.

Last year in Alliance some dood that was sitting behind me kept yelling "come on, finish 'em, put the hammer down"...

He yelled it in the 1st qtr. He yelled it in the 2nd qtr. He yelled it in the 3rd qtr. And he yelled it in the 4th qtr.

Want to know why he had to yell it (in my ear) each quarter until the final gun sounded? B/c they couldn't "put the hammer down", they couldn't beat Fisher 55-3 like everyone thought they were going to see. And if you say they didn't try to pound Fisher and end it early, you're only kidding yourself.

My point is that the top teams in the East can play ball with these teams, and this year is another opportunity for us to show that.
Yeh, that's what I have been saying on Daily Dose for 2 days and getting bashed for it...

Yeah, I definitely see an E8 team having a great chance against Mount.  I was looking at the stats of the teams they play, they really don't see as many west coast style teams as Ithaca, Fisher, and Wick.  Could bea check for those teams in the preparation category.
And they've heard all these sorts of statements before "They really don't see as many..."  Their coach is arguably the best in Division III.  I'm sure they'll be prepared.

I'd be lying if I said I expected Fisher to run with MUC last year. I agree this may be the most complete team MUC has had in a while. Just look at the stats. Teams do not that to other teams on accident.
GO FISHER!!!

Lets at least keep it accurate.  Not taking anything away from the game Fisher played with this comment but lets be correct in recounting the game.  Fisher got to Mount's 16, down 19-14.  They gained no yards on a run on 1st down, then had two incomplete passes.  On fourth down, from the 16, they attempted a 33-yard field goal that was blocked with 10:23 remaining in the game.  Not from the three and not in the final few minutes.  Mount Union then went 80 yards in nine plays to go up 12.  Fisher had the ball one more time, down 26-14, with 5:44 remaining but lost nine yards on three plays and punted the ball away.  You can see the boxscore of that game at the bottom of this page... http://www.mtunionfootball.com/2006season/06stjohnfisher.htm

I'm assuming the ironic part is that he followed Mount Union for a long time, that he went to Mount Union (OAC rival), instead.

I guess I just don't see it as that ironic then...being as I grew up in Cortland watching Cstate football and graduated from IC.

Ric

ICBomber, not me.  I am very much looking forward to this game between the two programs that have played in more Stagg Bowls than any other, right?  This should be a great game between two great programs.

Cortland? I'm a Cortland guy. Wife went to IC, but I could not bring myself to do it.

It is amazing how Mount fans get insulted anytime anyone says an East team has a shot against them.  I guess Ithaca should just forfeit and not bother taking the 400 mile trip.  Every legitimate post has recognized Mount as the favorite, but to deny Ithaca or any East team having a show to beat them is ignorant.

Ric,

Yeah, I believe more than any other two schools combined.

Weaknesses:  The only thing I can think of is too many penalties, but Mount has always been ranked near the top (or bottom depending on how you look at it) of penalty yards.  Good luck finding a weakness.

Toph,

Are you alluding that MUC's Raiders are cheaters and play dirty?

New FDC-colored penalty flags!  Great for all those MUC moments:
-Holding
-Offsides
-False Start
-Roughing the Kicker
-Roughing the Passer
-Illegal proceedure
-Too many Radiers on the Field
-Too many Radiers on the bench
-Too many National Championships
-Too many strengths
-Too few weaknesses
-Immortality
-Wearing Purple

Dont wait, call now!  Get yours today!

As a JCU alum, I would love to say that Mount plays dirty, but alas, for the most part, they don't.  They don't often get dumb penalties (offsides, false start, etc.) but they will get what might be called "aggresive" penalties (roughing the passer, an occasional late hit, pass interference), but in the last few games they've really cut down across the board.

Oh, and since they dressed about 300 for the game against Marietta, "too many Raiders on the sideline" isn't out of the question.   ;)

Quote"being realistic"?....give me a freaking break. I cant even begin to tell you how an RPI, IC, or TCNJ player would feel about that comment. You'd get jacked up if you said that around one of those guys. MUC's field is 100 yards long. They play with a regulation ball. They put 11 guys out on offense and 11 guys on defense. They're human, just like we are....wtf..i wouldn't want to be in a foxhole w/ you...

Is this some sort of veiled threat?  Did I make that comment to any player?  Not as far as I can tell.  If any players are reading this and concerned about what I'm posting, I can think of plenty of things that should be more important to them:  1.  Their schoolwork, 2.  Their family, 3.  The game they have to play on Saturday...I can continue, but I'll stop.

Mount is human, yes.  They don't make many mistakes, though.  Larry Kehres' record is 256-20-3.  That isn't an accident.  I made the "realistic" quote as a tounge in cheek reference to a poster's nickname.  You can be fired up about being in the playoffs, you can root hard for Ithaca, but if you say they're going to win, you better tell me how.

Toph, chill out dude.  We are going to root for Ithaca and the rest of the East region teams no matter what you say.  We all went to college at East Region schools, and some of us played, so our loyalty is strong.  We all understand the power that is Mount Union, and simply hope that we can fight hard and get a win against a program as good as theirs.  To rile you up even more:

Ithaca  99
MUC     2
St. John Fisher College...King of the East
