bosox- u may want to see the uc campus now.
much different than it used to be.
and what is wrong with the area?

Perhaps Bosox does not embrace the culturally and racially diverse atmosphere that we enjoy at UC, I personally welcome it.

Good point, Add. Something I had forgotten in my last post.

One of my printers is in Utica.  They have a private jet, and will fly you in for press checks.  Haven't had to go on press yet.  Anything fun to do in Utica?

I just dont see Utica as a great city/town to go to college in... i know this is a bad way to look at it but... If you live on campus and you want to go out to the bars to hang out chase tail whatever...  where do they go?  Is there bars close they can walk to?  Are they just the regular bars in Utica?  Like Verick street? do they have to take cabs constantly?

Is Utica still a big commuter school?

Yea i Havent seen UC campus in a while... It just always seemed it was in the middle of nowhere across from a big hospital

UC is across from St. Luke/Faxton hospital, and St. Elizabeth is down the road. UC is not a big commuter school anymore, without looking it up, I know there are many states and even a few countries represented in the enrollment.

There are lots of bars downtown, but if a guy wants to get down there, they'll figure out how. They have the "drunk bus" (as I called it -- as I rode it a few times  ;D ) guys can take cabs, whatever. There is a ton of stuff to do on campus, as well, however. Not always about the bars.

I think UC used to be a mainly commuter campus.  Don't know about it now.  I think those are fair issues though when considering schools.  One of my rreasons for going to IC was that Ithaca is a big college town.

It's definitely not now. Many people DO commute from the surrounding area -- but that's not just to UC, that's also to Mohawk Valley CC (10 minutes down the road) and to SUNYIT. But Utica has had to build two residence halls in the past 4 years to accommodate all the new students.

funny- seriously- i have no stake in uc- but having seen the transformation the campus has made and the improvements in the entire athletic dept and academic dept---uc deserves a look

Absolutely. And if I remember correctly, I think FA91 works for a "rival" institution :)

UC has put a lot of money into the program. New stadium, new workout and locker room facilities (maybe it's not the Bills, but it's still REALLY nice), and an athletic department that is really forward thinking.

The president, Todd Hutton, is a big-time supporter of Utica athletics, in fact, he's the reason that football is at Utica in the first place. He attends many games in all the different varsity sports with his wife.

Academics are top quality too. It doesn't have the "name" of an Ithaca, maybe, but you definitely get the same type of education that you'd get at an Ithaca. Class sizes are small, and because of that, you're not a social security number. Most of the professors and faculty have the top degrees in their field, and I would definitely compare it favorably to any other school in the Empire 8 (if we are going by athletic conferences, in this case.)

Utica is definitely worth a look. (No, I didn't get paid for this announcement -- in fact, as a 2004 grad, I'm starting to pay THEM.  :D ;)

Whats their # 1 major?  I know IC is top 5 in the country for 4 schools... Park, Music, Theatre, HSHP.  I think Biology and Business aren't far behind either.  IC finished #9 in the Northeast for best institutions to attend.

Actually, I think Utica is kind of a sh*thole.

Sorry '91, Dew.

Ha. +K. It can be --- some pieces of it --- but the college and the surrounding area and suburbs (New Hartford for example) are pretty nice.

realistic

Dew, when did you quit the Saratoga paper and start working for the Utica Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau?

I know Criminal Justice is one of the big ones -- I believe the Master's in Economic Crime Investigation (ECI) is the first of its kind here in the US.
Public Relations is pretty big too, Utica had one of the first PR-centric majors way back in the early 50s, just as the college was starting to pick up steam (UC was founded in 1946).
This is all off the top off my head, so I don't have any figures... I also think UC got one of the US News and World Report best small campuses distinctions, or something like that.... if anyone can find it, +K for a week.

But back to football.........

It seems like Hartwick has some defensive problems.  But is it speed, size, quickness?

Size up front. They need some space eaters. If a team has a power running game we are in huge trouble. The defenses goal is to get one or two stops a game, the offense will take over from there.

That same exact theory didn't work out too well for Springfield - you absolutely need a defense to do any damage in the NCAA's.

I agree, but lets not forget this is only 'wicks first taste of the NCAA's. We'll be happy with monkey stomping Curry and build on that for next year with the same offense and improved defense and special teams (both problems right now)

God forbid, Hartwick should lose.....just a matter of time until the NEFC get a 'W' in a NCAA game....your school just doesn't want to be the one to give it to them.

I haven't. Maybe I'd make better coin  ;)

Utica College has been good to me. It got me prepared for the real world, no joke about it.

So they are basically Elmira College with uglier girls, yeah?

TheeBuffaloSabres

unless your son is a senior on the Bombers, stay home. It wont be worth the trip. You should trust someone who knows both programs. It will be ugly, and it will be ugly quick. E8 doesnt really prepare you for the machine. HONESTLY, leaving emotion out of it, Raiders 44 bombers 0 at halftime.
and we all wanna be like tommy gavin

You'd rather have guys basically saying: Don't bother coming out to Ohio, we'll kick your ass anyways.

UC talk it is, man.

Frank Rossi

Instead of the bullsh!t rabble-rousing going on in this place, I propose the following for today:

Let's see a line of posts that actually break down the matchup instead of posts that look at how lop-sided or amazing the Ithaca/MUC game could be.  Specifically, what are Ithaca's strengths in what some could characterize as a helter-skelter season?  What are the weaknesses that Ithaca has exhibited all season that have to be avoided this weekend for them to have any chance against MUC?

In the same light, MUC posters, why not highlight the best of your team this year and the possible weaknesses you've seen at times during the year (every team has at least one, so none of this "they're perfect" BS).

Essentially, turn this into, "How ______ can win Saturday" instead of "OMG, it's gonna be a big WIN/LOSS for Ithaca this weekend."

Just a proposal -- don't be a hater...
