i haven't posted in such a long time that i actually forgot my old handle, but i had to get involved in this one with all the trash talk going back and forth.  as far as posters telling fans not to show up unless they have a senior on the team, that is probably the most backwards philosophy i have ever heard.  as a fan, you support your team regardless of who they are playing.  that being said, i do hope that the bombers can give muc a game as they haven't had much of a challenge all year.  it is going to take an amazing performance to take down this raider team and not seeing the bombers play before, i can't really comment much on whether or not they are capable.  i do know that mount can score in bunches and hasn't faced a team yet that can score on them.  in my biased opinion, i don't see this one staying close for long, but that's why they play the games.  safe travels to all the i.c. fans heading to alliance this weekend.

+k from me too.

MUC fans shouldn't think the game is going to be close.  But they should know we are going to play.  And they should know we aren't some patsy.  At the very least, we can all agree that IC isn't going to just lose, they will have to be beaten.

i said my playing days are behind me, or dont u read in new york?
and nobody in d3 can cover pierre, the thought is comical.
and it was said, i assure you.
It probably was said...and b/c you are not a player (yeah right) you didnt hear it...so you probably have no idea what the context of the staement was.  Perhaps, the OL was respectful of his DL counterpart after a hard fought 12 pt battle...perhaps the OL felt compelled to say something complimentary to the man that he did battle with all afternoon...perhaps you have no clue in life...

You know what?  Why give this clown the attention he is looking for.  Everyone should just ignore anything he says from here on out.  First time I've ever looked into the top right of the posting box to see if there was some sort of "ignore" function.  Maybe that will be on the 2008 agenda for PC and the boys.....

any team that makes it into the playoffs isn't going to just lay down and get beat and the intelligent mount fans understand that.
They should have practiced harder.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

As a broadcaster, I truly HOPE that Ithaca plays very well and pushes MUC to the limit like SJF, Capital and Whitewater did in last year's playoffs.  It's no fun talking the entire 2nd half about next week's game.

One thing that makes the prediction of D3 playoff games so tough is the lack of cross regional play in the regular season.  All that can be used logically is historical data about those particular teams, the conferences they play in, etc.  But that doesn't take into account the most important info which is THIS YEAR.  The best playoff teams are often the hottest team and those teams that are healthy.  Capital and Wheaton had very good teams until mid-season injuries killed them.  Now Capital limps into the playoffs with a terrible 3rd string QB and a DE playing TB.  Wheaton lost the last 2 and didn't even make it.

No doubt this MUC team is very, very good.  And that it would be a big upset to see them lose, but that's what everyone thought heading into the '03 Stagg against St John's too.  That's why they play the game.

My biggest concern heading into the playoffs for Mount is how they handle being pushed to the limit, because at least 1 team (and probably more) will do just that.  Even the '97 MUC team, which is by far the best Kehres has ever had, needed a big defensive stop at the end of game to perserve a 34-30 win against Allegheny in the first round.  Without an INT deep in MUC territory in the closing minutes, the best Raider team ever doesn't even make it out of the 1st Round.  The 1998 Championship team needed a missed 29 yard FG by Albion to survive in a 21-19 win.   In all my years of watching high school, college and pro football, there are very rarely any teams truly good enough to just blow everyone out.  Even the greatest teams had a game or two that they could have (or maybe should have) lost.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Ithaca shut him down in 2004

I too hope for a really good game--nobody makes it to the playoffs without at least a chance--that's why we (or, should I say, they) play the game on Saturday.

Safe travels to all.

Here's to an injury free weekend.

I still think Mount is going to win big--but, of course, I am more than a little biased.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

This is why champions are true champions in DIII.  Any good team has shot.  DI is just an awards show like the Emmy's or the Oscar's.

+k to both hs and thea, both good posts.

HS, your post touches on something that could make the D3 game even more interesting.  There is no incentive to play out of region because of the way playoff berths are awarded.  In fact, the reliance on in-region record is almost a disincentive to play out of region in a game that essentially, doesn't count for anything.

Here's hoping the NCAA's willingness to tweak the regions this fall (sending UWW to the North and MUC to the East) is the first step towards a more national mindset that will encourage more inter-regional games.  I'd love to see the Bombers add teams from the North or West and I am excited for the MUC-SJF home-and-home that is starting soon.

fisheralum91

viper- that soon is next fall for the sjf muc game!

not so rowdy bomber

Rowdy would like to know, when was the last "rebuilding season" at MUC.  There has been much talk about rebuilding and reloading on the East board throughout the year and for a team who has been so good for so long, it puzzles Rowdy how they continue to do it.

Also, what will it take for other teams to build up such dominance in DIII as MUC has done over the last 10 years.  Whatever the recepie, do share.  Bombers have been a good team for a very long time, and have had some excellent teams along the way, some making it to the big game others have come close which we all wonder "what if's" things had worked out differently.  It is my hope that Ithaca can shake off the woes of "good" seasons with tough breaks and return to their former excellence in having great seasons.

What will this take?  Despite Peggy Williams support of athletics I think her kick on diversifying Ithaca and projecting Ithaca as a very diverse campus has drivin many a good athlete away.  Their incredible expectations for admission are only getting harder and harder...  (average SAT is closer to 1250 now) and their ever increasing tuition is going up like gas prices.  For a few dollars more, why not go across the street to Cornell?  As for Football specifically, lets hope the new Athletics Center and expansion of campus can draw more of the NY, PA, OH, and FL prospects up to Gorges Ithaca.

From what I've heard, they should actually show some interest when they bring in recruits on visits.

I'll tell you what's a "hoot", saying that the OAC is a solid conference yet here is the average MUC game this year:

MUC:         54
Opponent:  2

Outside of Capital, I don't see what you're talking about. The East will challenge them... An average score of 54-2 you will not see.

No,  but the bottom half of any conference isn't in the postseason. Recalc based on the games against ONU, Capital and Baldwin-Wallace.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to understand the concept that the OAC can be a good conference and Mount Union could still be head and shoulders above the rest of the teams.

vs. ONU 44-0
vs. Cap  37-0
vs. B-W  35-0

Avg. 39-0

I'm sold - I retract my previous statements.

Here's what the East has sent them the past two years:

2006 SJF        26-14
2005 Rowan  19-7

Avg.  23-10

Don't buy into the hype - go play football & compete
