ya, DeRiggi & Stickly (sp?) hit Robinson so hard last year I think I felt it.

RE: Garcon

I can't wait until the matchup w/ Stepnick.

its not really the one on one matchups.  He never beat anyone deep for Ithaca today, but MUC runs the spread and threw the WR screen to the trips side where the other two block for Garcon....and he took it too the house.  yyou need good team pursuit/tackling against MUC thats for sure.

I agree, but they'll move Stepnick with him --- it'll be fun to watch

And they really usually have him by himself on one side and two recievers on teh other side.  Very balanced.

JU....I think you make an excellent point regarding MUC.  I think people that don't see them may assume they are just bigger, stronger, faster, etc.  But as you mentioned they are not a I-AA team or anything.  I think they are very comparable to most top tier D3 squads.  For the most part the difference lies in coaching, execution and depth IMHO.  They simply rarely beat themselves (other than their predictably big penalty numbers).  And the depth lends itself to overcoming the inevitable injuries.  Oh, and guys like Kmic and Garcon help a little too.

A tip of the hat to the Bombers.  Excellent showing today.  I, for one, am hoping for a SJF--MUC match up if for no other reason than I would get to enjoy some E8 PP for another week.

Ithaca Bombers, great effort today.  Maybe the strongest team, physically, Mount has seen and definitely the strongest offense the Raiders have seen.

QB had a great game under pressure, and some key drops really hurt the Bombers...

Mount's pass defense gave up a lot of yards, but made Ithaca earn it, and not get any easy freebies.  The INT inside the 5 in the third qtr was a killer.  The Mount  DE dropped into coverage and I don't think Juvan saw it happening....

A couple great catches by Bomber receivers. #16 had a couple for the highlight reel...

Some major contact on both sides that hurt just watching.  Parr's hit on Donovan was  one of the best I've seen for a while ...I like #25 on D...he was everywhere and the frosh LB looked like a future star...

the reality of it is, you need take away Kmic's big plays and only give up 3-4 yds a pop. He'll get his yards, there's no question, but they're beatable.

The IC showing only gives credibility to that statement. Like Fisher last year, it sounds like a few big plays is all that separated things, otherwise it was pretty even.

I'll enjoy another Fisher / MUC matchup.

Exactly.  Its not like the guys on that team were turning down full rides to Youngstown, or any MAC teams (Toledo, Kent etc...)  Like most d3 players, they were all probably a little too short and/or small in high school to be given a full ride somewhere.

I think SJF's run D matches up better this year vs MUC than last year....

This year Becton's playing a bigger (not sure if thats possible) role at DT and is requiring a constant double team.  Im quickly developing a man crush on the kid, he did after all swat a pass out of the air and pick it off.   Must of thought it was a donut....

Dr. Acula

JU...I agree 100%.  In Ohio it's basically DI or bust.  What I mean is that if you can't get a scholarship to a MAC school or the like there really aren't a lot of choices besides D3.  As a result, MUC has a great talent pool to choose from.

At the risk of sounding uneducated, are there a lot of D2 schools in E8 country?  Any NAIA schools?  Just trying to get a flavor for the recruiting situation up there.

we miss Lang & Pyz dude --- but I agree, we have the potential to hold the MUC running game to a reasonable level this year. Becton & Schenk have really come alive, and Gottlieb and LB's are really impressing me. Secondary without question can hold their own... should be a fun game.

Assuming we get past this Curry squad that JU's trying to sell us on ;)

Why isn't anyone talking about how freakin ginormous MUC's O-line's arms are? those dudes are ALL mini Jake Longs out there... seriously.

MUC is no joke, they come to play --- but I think that Fisher having been there just last year will help us out tremendously.

W/O a doubt we miss them, but its not like we're hurting either....

The DT's have been playing so well that its making up for the loss of Lang...

The OLBers play in coverage and off the edge is a big difference from last season though...

Nope, its pretty much D-3 or D-1 (Syracuse/UB)/1-AA (Albany) for Upstaters....

There's Roberts Wesleyan for NAIA but they dont have football and I dont believe there is a D2 school in upstate NY (I think Stoneybrook is D2, but they're on Long Island)...

Not really any d2 schools in upstate NY, but there is a league in New England (NE-10)  But not many schlorships there.  No NAIA but probably the best 1-AA league in the country (Colonial, Umass, Maine,)

But schools like Hobart, Union and Ithaca are regional liberal arts schools that get a lot of students from new england, New Jersey and PA but most will be from upstate still......

Chances are that many of the Hartwick posters will drop off now, but assuming one or two make it back to the boards, please put together a report on the following:

  • What the hell happened down there
  • Detailed scouting report on Curry
  • What the hell happened down there

We expect that report on Pep's desk no later than Sunday, Noon Eastern.

Feel free to e-mail it in: commissionerPep@E8Nation.com --- Pep will review, and have a conference call with the rest of the E8 Nation faithful later in the week.

Thanks,
