Here are the keys I think to beat Mt. Union.

1) You have to throw the ball well. A good qb and some speed recievers can beat MUC's defense.  BUT, you must have some sort of a threat to run to keep MUC's defense up at the line.  This is what IC did against them.  Juvan had his career best in yards in a game, and I must say, he was near perfect.   A few balls were even dropped.  A draw play or two might work, but you have to get the ball downfield.  Play action is a must, and guys must be able to block the extra blitzer and Kramer must be able to throw a good pass to the open hot read reciever.

2) Dont focus on Garcon You have two safties deep, a LB in the flat, and a corner on him. Dont go overboard and worry too much about one player.  The only way he is going to beat you bad is if the saftey gets beat, or if he gets the ball in a posisition where he is running at full speed.  Dont let the DBs get blocked on a screen and pursue to the ball!

3) Don't change your game plan and don't think you can slow down the game by running the ball SJF will not be able to run the ball next week.  Its that simple.  At least they wont be able to run to set up the pass anyway.  SJF will still have to try to run, but sending the RBs in the flat or middle of the field can work against them.

4) Try to keep your contain man unblocked This is tough, but Kmic likes to run back to the sideline.  Make sure the contain man can remain unblocked, and hope to god he can tackle.

Final thoughts:

I think IC suprised Mt. Union a little.  They will not be suprised by SJF.  If MUC had to play IC over again, I think they might do a few different things.  Expect to see this from MUC this week:
-More no-huddle
-More short/screen passes to Garcon
-Less blitzing

If "near perfect" means completing less than 50% of your passes then I guess we have different definitions for success on the football field.  Ithaca played Mount Union tougher than most thought and they should be congratulated for their performance.  Now for the game being "close" I'm confused because it still qualified as a "monkey stomp".  Teams seem to think that if they don't lose by more than 30... then the game was close?

Now SJF comes to Alliance and we all hope it's a good game.  I will say something about last year's SJU/MUC game.   Mount pounded the run and won a "close" contest (non-monkey stomp)...and again SJU should be congratulated...but  here's a question that I've been dying to ask the SJU fans.  You played a Mount team with a minimal passing game.  Micheli was 2-3 for 10 yards and Mount has 51 yards total through the air.  Then a week later you see Micheli "the running QB" set Stagg Bowl records for passing.  Even the national announcers were shocked.  Do you ask yourself how that happened?  Are you curious?  The fact is that Kehres can morph the team (offense & defense) anyway he wants and can limit the "real" looks that teams get of Mount on film (tape).  His ability to manipulate your perception of what Mount is or is not is one of his greatest strengths.  This fact was most obvious between the SJF & WWW games...as WWW was totally overrmatched by an air and ground assault.  Again I'm hoping the game will be a good one this weekend and it will as long as Mount can win by showing as little personality or tendancies as possible.

maybe MUC should just punt everytime they get the ball so nobody knows what they are going to do the following week on offense

I suppose I will float back and forth.  The NJAC only really has about 5 constant posters.  Their conversations aren't too exciting.

I am excited for the golden eagles to finally be in a conference with a bid, however.  Their schedule will actually get easier too.

No.  The fact is that MUC has a division 1 transfer caliber player at WR that makes him pretty good.  So no, Im not that suprised.

Yeah their schedule the past few years has been pretty brutal, will they still play Fisher or is that being dropped?

pg04

I'm not sure, but they only have 1 out of Conference game, and someone on this board a while back said they would play Utica.  Guess we'll have to wait and see, but it doesn't look too likely.

hmmm if they drop Fisher I wonder who Fisher will replace them with.  Of course I am going on the assumption that Kings is being dropped for Mount Union, maybe we are keeping Kings on the schedule and dropping Brockport.

Like I said I'm not sure, but keeping Fisher on the Schedule would make sense for a non-conference game due to proximity, but then again, SOS will be less important in a situation where they could get a Pool A bid now.

Is there any word on Stepnick's status? Obviously he would be a big loss for Fisher.
The last word I heard it was a sprain, but is he going to be able to play? Is he going to be able to go anywhere near full speed?
GO FISHER!!!

I've heard, through the grapevine, that Fisher might pick up Morrisville in a non-league contest.  Isn't Morrisville joining the NJAC as well?

Robby, who talked to Stepnick after the game, said its a high ankle sprain.  I guess he wants to play for sure.  Will he be 100%?  I doubt it.  High ankle sprains are usually nagging and very painful.  Hopefully, if he cant go, Bostick or Ahmed can step in and get er done.

Last time I checked, the score of the SJF/MUC game is still 0-0 (at least I hope so since I'm calling it with RR25).  Both teams have reached the same level of the playoffs.  This is going to be a closer game than most, which means that either team could win.  For anybody that wants to pound their fists on the table and say that 45-point victories every week guarantees one this week shows the lack of football knowledge they have.  Ask the Patriots right now, tied 14-14 with the Eagles.

Well said Frank.  +k

If Bill Belichik could take away Karma, he would be taking some away from you two for being so generous with your injury updates!
