and here comes pat to MUC's rescue...

Well, there's a lot of denial around the board when it comes to Mount Union. Just a little reality.

Denial? Seriously Pat, its not like anyone from SJF is saying we're going down to their house and beating them.  Show me one post where that was stated.  We are being optimistic about our chances given their losses.  The only person in denial around here is you.  When anyone even says anything about having a chance vs MUC you come on and rip on them.  Then when we call you out on it you completely deny your love affair with anything MUC related.

Let me ask this to a Mount Union person since I honestly do not know, have they ever lost that many starters from one season to the next?

Yes, they've lost those kind of numbers twice before.  After 1993 and 1997.

The worst was 1993 when just about everyone graduated from the first National Title team.  A very young Mount team led by a freshman QB won the OAC at 9-1, beat #1 ranked Allegheny in Round 1 and then lost to eventual National Champ Albion (MI) by a score of 34-33.  The difference was two blocked extra points.  That young QB turned out to be Gagliardi winner Bill Borchert who would finish his career with 190 TD passes and 14,617 yards.  His senior season (1997) was a crazy 61 TD's against 2 INT's.

After the 1997 season, when Borchert and company graduated, Mount returned a very little other than a stud MLB.  The '98 team won a number of nail biters in the regular season and through the playoffs on the way to their 4th title.  Offensively they were lead by an unknown TB named Chuck Moore and WR Adam Marino.  Moore would win the Gagliardi in 2001 and Marino would finish as an All-American with a school record 110 receptions in his senior season (2000).

Similar to 2007, both the 1993 and 1997 teams were very, VERY senior dominated.  However the difference lies in Micheli and Kmic returning from '08.  Both the 93 and 97 teams graduated their All-American QB, RB and best WR's.  Even though they have skill returning in the backfield, I think you'll a similar drop off like the other 2 decimated teams becuase D3 overall is a lot better and deeper than it was the mid-90's.  The competition around the nation has improved greatly in the last decade.

Personally, I think Fisher is going to provide a very good game for the Raiders.  Mount loses their entire defense and all 5 O-linemen.  I can't imagine there won't be some growing pains with 17 new starters to start the season against someone as talented as SJF.

There are 2 teams in the regular season with a very legit shot at Mount:  Capital and SJF.
Capital returns a ton of starters and their QB that was injured by the time they played Mount last year.  And Fisher is a very solid team that won't be intimidated by MUC and catches them at the right time.

I'll probably set the spread in the upper 20's simply because most of the people participating are OAC guys that always pick MUC, but I fully expect the game to be in doubt heading into the 4th quarter.   My honest prediction would be MUC 28 / SJF 24.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming..........................

No way Fisher puts up 21 vs. MUC, especially the first game of the year, and with Kramer & the Hansen gone -- IMHO of course.

If anything I'd say it would be the defense that keeps it competitive.

A MUC poster just said that SJF would get 24, so im off in saying they'll get 21?

If anyone is going to score in 20's, it's going to be early in the season as MUC returns only 2 starters on D.  An undersized defensive end (6-1, 205) and a cornerback (5-9, 155).

They have some HUGE holes to fill.  7 of the graduated guys were multiple time All-OAC.  2 of them were All-Americans.

If they completely shut down SJF, look out.

Second string defense got a lot of PT last year, if I recall correctly.

Hey guys.  Glad to see everybody is back.

I think our chances are fairly good going into Mount.  They lost alot from last season and I think SJF will capitalize on that.  Rob Brown will start at QB and should be very effective at the D3 level.  I saw him play alot in highschool for Webster Thomas and he was the real deal.  Recruited by alot of 1-AA schools.  O-Line should be very solid once again, and Smith and Marion are a solid tandem at WR.  Our defense will be strong against the run, and hopefully we can replace Stepnick and Miranto effectively.  I  would think Bostic and Ahmed will be the starters at CB.

Do you know for a fact that Rob will be the starter?  Or do you just believe he will be based off his talent that you've seen?

theoriginalupstate

From what im hearing Brown and Hammell are the front runners....
