A little sloppiness was worth it at my last trip to Butterfield, the 24-7 drubbing of the highly touted Springfield Option with Chris Whatever the hell his name was, Sharpe. (that was real-time remembering). Doesn't look like I'll make it this year either, but look out, homecoming 2009!

And remember, Juvan loves the slop. Loves it. Eats it up. Eats the slop.

I played in that game and the sloppy field definitely slowed us down. my picks for E8 facility rankings...

               1. Growney... fairly new turf, nice home field stands plus fisher
is a classy team with not too much trash talk. played there
during chris whats his name's 7td game which added to the
                   experience.
               2. Stagg (im biased)... I kinda have to go with Springfield's
upgraded facility, brand new turf, 2008 will feature new
home/away locker rooms, field house, and from what im told
new grand stands. and the townhouse behind the visiting
                   bench provide some nice heckling.
               3. Butterfield...i'm a fan of grass, and i watched games there as a
                   kid.
               4. Randyville (hartwick)...they upgraded to field turf and
eventhough that surrounding fence is ghetto it trapped in
sound and made the 1,200 crowd feel much bigger.
               5. Gaettano... we whooped their ass. long walk from the lockers.
               6. Alfred...that rug has to go.
               7. Norwich...chopped up grass field, cheap shot players, small
locker room. i wrote a letter to their chancellor.
*fun fact. Montclair: no hot water in the visiting locker
                 room.

Rankings of E8 Stadiums:

I know that St. Lawrence is in the Liberty League, but that was probably the best stadium I have ever played at.  Beautiful grass, incredible facilities...they have some $ at that school.

1. Ithaca...best atmosphere for a college football game, tradition unmatched by others, great way to spend a saturday afternoon.
2. Alfred...yeah i am also biased, but the carpet played to our advantage as no one could catch our receivers or tailback....great setting...something about playing at "the pit" that made it special.
3. SJF....great playing surface, good atmosphere, quick walk from the locker rooms to the stadium.
4. Norwich....always fun playing in that "hostile" environment with cannons exploding and cadets doing various calesthentics...good memory I have is B.Brady scoring a TD and then saluting the cadets right behind the end zone...needless to say that drew a fifteen yarder.
5. Hartwick...maybe the best playing surface of them all, very soft...However the field itself reminded me of the longest yard...didnt know if there were correctional officers in the stands waiting to shoot if we escaped...long walk from locker room as well.
6. Utica...eh, not a bad stadium...but it was just in the open...very windy....field turf was short and quick though.
7. Springfield...they may have upgraded...but we are talking about stadiums I have played at...and when I was there...just terrible...if you complain about Alfreds turf...at least ours did not have holes in the turf where the stitching and concrete was visible...I am sure they rank in the top 3 now however.

Sometime around the summer of '91, my family took a trip to look at colleges for my sister.  She was considering Springfield, where our father graduated from (he played on the volleyball and lacrosse teams).  They were replacing the AstroTurf at the time, and we walked onto the field and took a few strips of scraps.

I remember thinking it was sort of cool because that was the same surface the Giants played on, and also thinking it was kind of crappy because it really was not much besides concrete, a thin layer of padding, and then the same stuff my grandparents had on their porch.

Anyways, still have those strips from the field, though.

ps--My dad also used to hitch-hike from Springfield to Ithaca where my mom was going to school.  Even this OAC-er has some connections.

just gro being gro... +k to page 1913.   Tony Soprano does have D3 connections, in the 1st or 2nd season he took his daughter to visit a few NESCAC schools.

The episode was called "College" and it is regarded as if not the best episode of the Sopranos ever, then the 2nd best behind the 1 where Paulie and Christopher get stuck in the woods with the Russian....

I just want to express my extreme dissatisfaction for the dumbing down of springfield's schedule. dropping games against montclair and bport to pick up mt. ida and fitchburg. it looks like the pride are throwing in the towel and are settling for 7-3 seasons (losses to SJF, IC, AU) and ECAC games against the other women's teams in new england.

Nobody wants to play them because of their offense. As a Union Fan with inside knowledge I can tell you that Union is dropping them for that reason and that reason only. Replacing them on the schedule with Ithica, so dont ge saying Union just wants an easy game!!!!

Welcome back Brett Favre!

why does everyone have a problem with the cage. I think that it gives the Hartwick stadium that closed in feel and separates it from every other stadium. I agree about the long walk though. lol And sometimes i wonder if having the cage that close to the end zone is legal as i have seen countless people run into it when the quarterback trows the ball to far.

I like the cage in the sense that it is a unique home field advantage.  Alfred kind of gave me that sort of feeling too.

Speaking of changing schedules, what's the deal with Frostburg State? Are they as big a cream puff as they seem?

Hey all. dont know how long I will be allowed to post with my user name but!

As an old bugger who has been watching this board for a couple of years I would like to add a couple of comments. As you know all of the players in this league play their asses off. All the teams coming in are great, they all have some tremendous talent to make a differnce, but what about MANNY?   manny is what is wrong with professianal athlethes today!!!!!  Here is an IDIOT who couldnt pass a GED if he couldnt hit a 88+ fastball today! Yet we think he is a god?    Whoops, forgot where I was, anyways there are a lot of pretty clever and funny guys on this site. I enjoy watching you and your comments here and if you want I have a few comments on some of the teams in this conference.....but they may be under a new name   "Heywould  JaBlowme".
