JU: Nice photo. Pep admits the view from the IC stands is gorges....high above Cayuga's waters and all. Pep wonders whether IC hosts track meets at Butterfield.

Merrill Field has no track. Since Alfred State installed its all-weather track in the early 1970s, AU has used that as needed, after once attempting to build a track facility on the 2350 ft. elevation Jericho Hill that once played host to AU soccer teams; it's now just used for rugby (when they mow the grass for them), but way in back is a practice football field where Pep once played summer soccer. The Saxons use it during pre-season camp.

Jericho Hill = Hell on earth...two a days in full pads in Jericho almost drove the sanest of men and most dedicated of football players to sheer insanity and quitting from the team.  Every preseason, there was bound to be a fight on Jericho Hill...the best was my sophomore year...Reger vs. Gatto, fairly even matched...stirred up things between the O and the D, but it was needed because practice was a bit lax up until that point.  Back to the point though...Jericho was very similar to the surroundings that the "Junction Boys" practiced in.

NE1 gonna touch this?

Hey ICeman....you still helping out with the IC women's softball team?

Since Gino Olivieri took over at AU, the Saxons have been making a little noise in the E8 Softball World. Just picked up a Hornell grad who was a big hitter at Monroe Community (NJCAA national champs). It appears that a softball diamond is presently being carved out of Tucker Field (the grass field next to the tennis courts) on N. Main Street. It will be nice for the Lady Saxons to have a "home field." But AU had best provide another grass practice field for soccer, lacrosse, football, ultimate, etc.

Pep...I'm not with the Bombers anymore.

I've landed back in Rochester for grad school at Nazareth.

My first and only season with the softball team was great finishing 4th in the nation.  As for your Saxons...They definitely made some noise this year and don't show any signs of stopping.  Our head coach had nothing but good things to say about Gino and after meeting him I would agree.  He's done a great job with that program.  And you definitely deserve a diamond on campus.  They're a good team, pushed us to our limits when we played you in Hornell.  If it weren't for the long ball we wouldn't have pulled it out.  We had expected to play them in the regional final this year but got dealt UofR instead.

With 6 of our starters, including our top 2 pitchers, graduating, the Bombers might be facing a difficult rebuilding year.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Lady Saxons take home the E8 title this year.

Yeah, Gino's girls dropped two one-run games to St. John Fisher in the E8 tourney or they might have met up with the Bombers. ECACs two straight years...but it was a very young team in '08 and Gino is bringing in more talent. Should be interesting. Bombers will always be a force to be reckoned with. Years ago, an Alfred-Almond grad by the name of Hoffman played for IC and did well. The Bomber softball program is much like Bomber football. But yes, Gino has done a nice job building the AU program.

Lady Dubbz will love you for attending the purple and gold.

How does their football team look this year?

They're adding softball this year or last year.  Did you jump on board with them?

football talk was in there fisheralum91....looking forward to sharing a PBR with yah this fall.  Unless of course your rent-a-cops come over and spoil the bomber fun.  i dont think they knew what to do when the blue and gold rolled in with coolers, bbq's, and ooga boogas.

fisheralum91

When there's a lull on the E8 boards, Pep always finds something to post about. At least it wasn't about the miles on the Bandwagon.

There was preliminary talk at an Alfred Village planning board meeting about extending the field to the north of Merrill over the Canacadea similar to how Davis and McLane are built to allow for an additional practice field.  Army Corps of Engineers haven't been consulted so I would think that is only in the dream phase for now.

But, how about coming across the street to ASC's stunning diamonds?  AU uses the State's track already, so I'm sure arrangements could be made for softball (though scheduling would surely be a nightmare).
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!
