gb15...sorry 'about the 'mediocre' thing...wasn't meant to label you as saying that.  I can see where we aren't too hot on Juvan right now.  But before DJ we were rather spoiled with Fellecetti at the helm.  Quick fun question...How do you think Juvan would have done with the supporting cast #3 had as well as the state of the E8 during that time?

And you really think Ithaca is not a perennial football power anymore? (not meant to irk anyone or start arguments!) Maybe I see thing differently since I don't come from a football background, but I would be hard pressed to think Ithaca is no longer a football power in the East.  (let me know if I'm reading your posts wrong!)

RE: Average Comments

I guess they are the best teams in the E8, which means I'll concede that they are better than average. My view is that they are below they hype however, and they both are weaker than the teams they have fielded the last few years.

That's where I was going with it.

Tags -- I gotcha now.

The buzz in Ithaca this summer when I was still there was that this year's team was going to do some real damage and go far in the postseason.  I was hard pressed to believe that after the personnel we lost.  This year's squad as definitely been a let down thus far, not saying that they're a bad team, just (as you said) they haven't lived up to the hype.  Hopefully we can turn it around after the bye week.

Juvan had a great game last year vs. MUC in case everyone wants to forget jumping on his bandwagon -- was that a fluke? Maybe. Just wanted to remind everyone how high they held him when we began the year.

On that note, Ithaca needs to win a big game or two before they regain their powerhouse status.

Edit: I personally think Juvan is a good QB.

Bailey has another year under his belt... and so does the running backs...

Deckerd has another year and he's shown some promise as a good WR so far and they have alot of size in this years incoming class (alot of guys over 6'2" and one even 6'6").  The TE is coming back, Reger, and he looks good when Bailey gets him the ball.  Brown who plays everywhere will be back along with Herrington, Carlton and Beihl will be back in the backfield.

They have a chance to be very good next year even though they'd lose Smith and Marion.

Agreed. As I will touch on in my later post about Fisher, if Fisher is the top team in the E8 this year (and there's no reason to think they're not after yesterday), this is a down year for the E8. They are simply not as good as the best teams in the E8 over the 5-8 years (assuming we're talking about Fisher or IC as the best team last year by the end of the season). They just don't have the "wow" factor of past Ithaca or Fisher teams.

I listened to the game today and Fisher seemed to play great.  Especially in the second half.  I think a 9-1 finish is very possible.  Before DewCrew can post his updated East Region top 10, here is mine:

1.  SJF
2.  Cortland
3.  Delaware Valley
4.  RPI
5.  Ithaca
6.  Hobart
7.  Albright
8.  Rowan
9.  Kean
10. Hartwick

pbr would have del val at #1... 8)

Upstate is Biehl out for the year with an injury or something?  I have yet to find out where he went after week 1...

Yeah well I wouldn't, I never thought Wesley and Salisbury deserved being ranked so high.  We will see how the rest of their seasons go, but Salisbury has at least one more loss coming to them in about 2 weeks

See, I think the supporting casts have been pretty similar. Both had Donovan and Baez for two years. Felicetti may have had slightly better WR's (Espo, O'Hara, et al), but Juvan has had pretty good talent at his disposal, too (Crandall, Hogan, Weverbergh). I don't think it's a matter of who had better weapons.

When Felicetti got the ball, you knew Ithaca was going to score. That just doesn't happen with Juvan. You can break down why until the cows come home. But that's just how it is. Juvan isn't bad and I'm not trying to say he is. But he really has not improved in 3 years, at least from what I have seen.

Wesley, much like the Arizona Cardinals, is always the chic pick to do some damage by the media yet they never do much beyond what they did the previous year.  Wesley is very talented but they usually get blown out if they get past the QTR's in the tourney.  Salisbury is a one trick pony that can get shut down with solid D.

Both are good squads but not top 10 worthy.

disagree w/ u on wesley they are very good. like u said if they get past the qtr's in the tourney that would put them in the final four and you still wouldnt put them in the top 10? geez its amazing to pbr in that you e8 guys think all e8 teams should be in the top 10 and no one outside of mt union could ever beat a e8 team.... ::)

theoriginalupstate

Not saying that at all PBR, i've got DVC at #2 in the fan poll.  I think DVC could probably be the team to beat in the east this year.  I like what they've done in upsetting top 10's back to back, but im never big on Salisbury (pretty much a more athletic version of SC) and Wesley because of their conference they play in.

DVC, if they can get through the MAC unscathed can probably get a #1 seed in the east if the NCAA doesn't hold the Iona loss against them.  SJF fans know that DVC is legit with the athletes they have.

They play each other and two other games in the conference. The ACFC has little bearing on the quality of Wesley and Salisbury.

And how many playoff wins does Wesley need to have to earn your respect, exactly?
