With the athletes that Springfield gets, i'd be willing to bet that they'd be a better team if they scrapped the option and went with a more conventional offense....

I don't think so. That O fosters to those athletes and their strengths. It just takes time and some learning (usually from a season of mistakes) to grow and reach its potential. When it is working well and the QB is able to manipulate the O the triple Opt can be almost unstoppable. Many Sprinfield QB's are very successful, it will just take time. Teams hate....hate playing against it when it is working well. Delong is a hell of a coach.

Can't blame Cheif Wiggam for the four turnovers and two missed field goals. They are clueless inside the 20 yard line. This is due too the lack of a TE/FB in the game plans. This started last year when Harmon wasn't part of the game plan.

Its hard to involve the TE into the spread unless he's split out, there is no threat to run out of this offense.  No run game = no play action, no play action = limited TE involvement.  I don't see how SJF can go from turning ANY RB it has into a stud with their zone scheme and then just go ahead and totally abandon it.  Has anyone seen the new play action bootleg out of their shotgun spread?  The QB does a pirouette after the fake, i swear he looks like a ballerina, one of the most god awkward things i have ever seen.

That is all well and good, but they've never done anything special when they get into the NCAA's.  That is great that they win some games, put up some points and rushing yards but isn't the ultimate goal to win in December?  They're a one trick pony that's been turned into glue on several occasions when a team plays defense.  If they don't diversify they'll never do anything in the NCAA's...

Cheif Wiggam (Coach Parks): This is Papa Bear. Put out an APB for a male suspect (Run Game), driving a... car of some sort (Spread offense), heading in the direction of, uh, you know, that place that sells chili (endzone). Suspect is hatless (clueless). Repeat, hatless (clueless).

Nice. You know, I've wondered if they've ever kicked around the idea of making it possible to display what team you're a fan of. I'm sure we could figure it out based on names and posts, but it'd be nice to know who you're talking to, in a sense

Hey Pep,

Just to be sure - the game tomorrow is scheduled for 2:00 ?  I guess Hartwick usually has an early soccer game or sometrhing as I recall.

Still no luck on renting a Llama to get up to the cage.  :)

Just Pep and Kaz00...most band members are full-time college students. Pep hasn't really introduced the band to the boards.

Indeed, it's a 2 p.m. kickoff. Pep believes it is Parents Weekend so Pep plans to get there early.

Well said, Upstate. When your offense can only do one thing, no matter how well, you're in trouble. IC used to run the option a lot, but they had a great WR in 1991 who holds the record for most recieving yards in a playoff. The Pride did make it to the third round in 2000, although they gave up 61 to Widener. They lost in the first round in '03, but scored 34 points. In 06, they hung with a great Fisher school. They've yet to make a real deep run, although I am not sure it's the fault of the offense

I haven't been on in a couple weeks, so I'm sorry if this has already been brought up, but is there any word on Cortaca tickets?

The one thing negative thing with the Springfield offense is if they get down quick, it becomes that much harder to come back.  3 yards and a cloud of dust doesn't work so well when you are down a score or two late in the fourth.  I think they haven't made the deep run in the playoffs because their offense is more geared towards "we think we are better then you, you know what is coming, now try and stop it."  This works well if you are the biggest baddest team...but deep in the playoffs, the teams that usually get to the Final 4 are teams that are outstanding...but make the best adjustments when things aren't going to plan.  MUC is the obvious exception.

Yanks99,

I agree with the gist of your points about the Sp'field offense, however it isn't intended to be the essentially obsolete 3 yards and a cloud of dust.  Wasn't that just basically - up the middle and grind it out smashmouth?
