upstate-- i have to agree a little with bombers--
it certainly isnt like the offense is anemic.
do they have a power runner like rob- no
do they move the ball at will--sometimes.
do they make mistakes- occasionaly
is the red zone offense something to imporve-absolutely
but the fact remains is that this may just not be the year for this team.
a year or two under the belt and bailey could be an all american and i really like what i have seen from the up and coming freshman and sophmores---do they have big shoes to fill- yes filling Smith and Mairons spots wont be easy- but it does look like there is a light at the end of the tunnell and it may lead to a national title shot

no offense to the phils and the rays-- but i think the mlb gasped when they both got in---ratings will be an all time low.

I don't doubt this but Bud Selig has only himself to blame.  For going on 10 years now MLB has spent all their effort marketing just two teams.  Ironically, this wrongheaded emphasis has hurt the team he still unofficially owns...

Everyone watches the Super Bowl regardless of who is in it because the NFL promotes all 32 franchises.

Interesting fact, in 11 years of Rays Baseball, Bud Selig has seen exactly 1 game at Tropicana Field, and it took him about 7 seasons for that to happen.  Shouldn't the Commissioner see every park pretty regularly?

You would think the commissioner would get to every park every season, and he should have been there last night.

It should be a good series and correct me if I am wrong but isn't Philadelphia considered one of the major markets?  I think this series will have better ratings than people think.

Rays in 6, after all they are playing a philly team and that means the phils will probably choke at some point.

Guys, I don't know much about the tie-breaker system.  But let me ask you this...why did SJF play such a tough schedule with MUC and Salisbury if it wont help them for an at-large?

Because it won't hurt them either, unless they're in a deep Pool C "tie" for consideration purposes.

I was talking about the SOS debate between Fisher vs. IC and Hartwick. That seems to be what will decide the automatic bid this year, and I think Fisher would have a slight edge in that area (no?). I am no expert on what gets teams into the tournament and what doesn't. I am not thinking that Fisher gets in without the automatic bid.

No.  Ithaca would win as of right now pretty easily.

I'm not sure how you're calculating that.  The fourth tiebreaker (i.e., the only one that counts) is OWP only, right?

If the season ended today, Hartwick would win the tiebreaker.   However, the numbers will of course change, and Ithaca stands to get a boost in its OWP when it plays Cortland, which would likely shoot Ithaca past Hartwick.  Somewhere I stumbled across a website that calculated OWP for the remaining schedule (based on present records, of course), if I could find that site again it would likely corroborate your testimony.

Now add Norwich, Springfield, Utica and Mt. Ida to Hartwick's SoS.  The season doesn't end today for these purposes.

Yeah, that's what I figured you meant.  Have you ever seen the website I mentioned?  I remember it had "forward-looking" OWP/OOWP caculations.

It's weird to think that Springfield drags SoS numbers down.  Strange days indeed.

Two things:

1) BILLS

2) Congrats to Jose, all Tampans, and the Rays. Should be a hell of a series.

2008- 372
2007- 295
2006- 270

So, you're telling me that the biggest difference from say, two years ago to today is the offense that's gaining more yards than they were then and not the defense that's giving up 100 more yards?

Why can;t your defense hold Hartwick to less than 28 points? Alfred's did. If you score 28 points, you should be able to win a football game. The offense totalled up 490 yards. I'm sorry, but those are not the signs of an innefective offensive system

Regarding Mount Union, your own logic condradicts itself. You claim that you can't blame the defense for holding MUC to 12 points below their season average. But MUC has only allowed 5.5 points per game, which means that the offense did exactly what you'd expect, which is, not produce a touchdown. If you're going to trot out some argument based on expected, or average returns in crediting the defense, you have to do the same for the offense. And frankly, the offense did all you could expect them to as well.

And for the record, allowing a running back to average nine yards a carry, and a quarterback to average 16 yards a completion is not what you could call keeping a team in the game. You really think your defense played well? There wasn't a single MUC drive where they didn't cross midfield. They put up 524 yards of total offense. You couldn't stop the run nor the pass.

I don't understand why an offense that has seen a drop off of 5 points per game from 2007 gets all the blame, whereas a defense giving up 8 more points a game gets a pass.

And, as someone else pointed out, why can't it be a talent question? Look at IC. Dan Juvan's numbers are awful compared to Josh Felliceti's, but that's because Dan's not a good and he doesn't have the talent at WR.

Your whole premise is yards gained and yards given up...not entirely the right measuring stick for this debate.  The deal with MUC is that MUC scored 33...period, doesnt  matter how many yards they gained in discussing whether SJF was in the game (which they were not, but it will be the lowest output of MUC'S season).

And dont talk about how many yards we put up ag 'Wick, because yards dont win games, points do!

Have you seen an SJF game this year?  Other than the SJF 37-6 game...zing?   The offense has turned it over going in multiple times this year and it has cost them points and wins...ie:'Wick game.

This  debate is silly anyway, games are won and lost by both sides of the ball combined in any given game.  Games take on a life of their own...sometimes high-scoring and sometimes low scoring.  Sometimes the Offense gets stuck in a low-scoring game and sometimes the defense gets caught in a high scoring game.  This debate is being had in a statistical vacuum ignoring the realities of the game itself.

About time someone besides the Team of the Week recognized offensive lines. :)
