haha very nice JU

Well, let's take a shot at this: Who do we think will make the list from our team? I'll try first team skill position guys, but maybe others are more talented

IC

Bergerstock, Weverbergh, Cheir, Scalice maybe? I'd imagine some OL guys are bound to make it as well.

Honestly, I find Ithaca's sports information department to be shallow and pedantic.

I agree, shallow and pedantic

Obviously not a Cortland State grad with that vocabulary.

Pep, who do you have coming back at your skill positions?

Its going to be a long year in 2009 in the E8 for everyone if Manzer and Bork are coming back with Seckey...

Typos identified from 1999-2003 ... none.  Typos identified after 2003 ... some.  Max, I'm looking at you.  One would think you'd be MORE efficient without me in the office.

Was I the football guy? I think you need to check with a little guy named Aquaman. Check the '06 baseball guide... that'll be stellar stuff.

From what I remember of the one time I met IC's SID,  I think our SID at the time tried to drive him back to his office but somehow got lost.  I remember him just saying ... Stop STOP!!  I'm not sure if that's relevant here but the sports information seemed very good the one time I got to graze the IC press box.

Bork graduates. Manzer, Harding, Thon, Pope, Hendrix all return...

...plus Pep can imagine there are a few high school senior WRs who'd like to be on the receiving end of a Secky pass!

True. No school has won more Lambert Cup awards than Ithaca would be the way to say that if they didn't want to acknowledge the tie. But not a big deal.

Yeah, maybe not. But IC's athletic page also has a "Student Althete Profile" of a Women's Soccer player who graduated in 2006. This is not a new problem at Ithaca. If you're purporting to be the best source of information about a school, accuracy should be the #1 concern. Especially when a mistake like that can be corrected in 20 seconds by doing a Google Search

I don't think you want to open this up Bombers. I've liked everything you've said until now. I would venture to say that the breadth, fairness, and professionalism of Ithaca's SI department is unparalleled in NY, maybe even in DIII.

When your SID stays until midnight every Saturday football night to make sure the proper coverage gets paid to ALL sports, you let things like stupid little mistakes go once in a while. When EVERY sport has the scores up immediately after the event, which is almost unheard of, you let little mistakes go.

If you had bothered to e-mail Mike Warwick courteously about these things, I'm sure they would have been fixed immediately; instead you're trumpeting it on a message board. Nice work, here's a cookie. The two "mistakes" you have mentioned are nothing compared to the headache that comes with dealing with many or even most DIII Sports Info departments.
Absolutely. I've dealt with a few East Region SIDs, and Mike Warwick is one of the best, period. You want to smash somebody for their typos, look through some of my columns if you want.

EDIT: Bombers, saw the apology. Good deal.

The work of Fran Elia at Cortland can not be overlooked.  He does an amazing job.  I think he and so many others have taken pages from the work of Pete Moore who was at IC for many years before moving on to 'Cuse.

Absolutely. Fran is one of the best. Kevin Beattie at RPI is also very good. Not to single certain guys out, all the SIDs have been really good helping me out when I need help on a column.

+K for Family Guy reference.

Just to throw in my two cents here even though I'm a little late to the party. As a broadcaster that's worked at various levels, including in professional baseball and Division I athletics; Ithaca's sports information department is second to none. While at Ithaca as a student broadcaster, the sports info office always had updated information for us ahead of time and was always more than willing to accommodate us folks from the radio station - even when we wanted to go into unchartered territory at the time and broadcast select away games during the regular season or cover teams well into the playoffs during the spring semester.

And as someone that's continued to cover Ithaca (football, hoops, baseball) over the past six years for D3sports, I've had nothing but positive experiences and greatly appreciate all of their hard work. Heck, they still even treated me nicely when I went over to the dark side (sorry c-state guys) for several years and did games at cortland.

I think in the end, while this discussion started on Ithaca, I think we have to recognize all of the hard work done by all SID's, whether it's Ithaca, cortland or any other Division III school. Unlike Division I school's with an army of staffers, the Division III SID has to cover everything or work in tandem with an assistant to cover a boatload of sports.

So, with that, I say..."Here's to you, Division III sports information director." I'll leave it to LLPP guys to come up with the lyrics.
