please make sure everyone visits Don Hansen's website to see the poll that has St. John Fisher as a national power and RPI ranked at #32......

oh, and 0-2 Linfield is in the top 25
I think Fisher is playing someone other than Mt. Idle this Saturday so it could change. Meanwhile, RPI has a chance to move up with a win over 'bart before being a bully in beating up Becky---er Becker.

LLPPs,

Just what is a Watervliet and how you pronounce it?

My wife and I just came back from a visit to family in Brandon, VT and as we traveled the Hudson-Mohawk river valleys we talked about the Liberty League and my frequent visits to your post page.  Then we came across the aforementioned town, burgh or whatever.

Good to have the football season back again.

I only see that RENSSELAER TECH is ranked #32.  RPI isn't even mentioned ;D

Also, Don Hansen's site isn't the only poll that ranks 0-2 Linfield in the top 25.  Go to the Daily Dose to see a spirited discussion on why this site also has Linfield ranked in the top 25 including comments from P. Coleman.

I beleive watervliet...pronounced Water"vileet" is an old, old wooden ship.

Gro will have alot to say about this one, but from what I gather the town bleeds crimson because of the football team.

Actually, Don Hansen is very knowledgeable about D3 football.  Unfortunatley Don has retired and his son now runs the Football Gazette.

Re: Lint field

they lost to 2 good teams, they still deserve to be ranked, period.

Re: The 'Vliet
It seems like every riverfront city in upstate NY has a smaller dingleberry like city right across the river. Schenectady has Scotia. Albany has (the city of) Rensselaer. Troy has Watervliet.
The vliet is just like the other cities on the list... run down old manufacturing town. There are only 2 good things about watervliet
1. Gus' hot dogs
2. Bob's diner

and a side note, coach king was the HS coach there and still bleeds a little garnet (ironic isn't it).

After two years at St. Peter's, he went on to Watervliet High School, where he inherited a program that had only one winning season in 23 years. In his seven years with the Cannoneers, King compiled a 44-16-2 (.726) mark. He guided the team to six winning seasons, including 1979 when it went 8-0-1 and won the Section 2 Class C title. While at Watervliet, King, who also taught social studies, was named the Troy Area High School Coach of the Year by The Record four times and the Capitaland High School Coach of the Year once by the Times Union. Among the players he mentored was Tim Sherwin, who went on to have a standout career as a tight end with the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants in the National Football League.

KS just received an offer letter for a job in Livingston NJ.  KS is taking job, it is a good offer and offers excellent potential for professional growth and they will reimburse tuition for any courses that are job related.  Plus they offered KS flex-time.  KS is happy, +K for everyone, except for TDT's -K.  Thanks to LLPP members for their help and suggestions, and thanks to JT for the link (won't post link here, don't want Guru to lose advertising revenue).

Congrats.  Don't think Pat minds links that help fellow posters out.  Glad everything worked out.

One time at RPI, LD11 had some friends in town, and we all ended up at Bob's Diner in Watervliet at around 4:30am.  THis place had this little menu item sent straight from heaven....Gravy Fries with Cheese.  They were amazing!  So of course I order a batch, and right as my order comes out, these 2 white trash scumbags start to get in somewhat of a verbal argument.

I'll never understand this part, but they were white and calling each other racial slurs that are typically used for black people whiuch was rather odd.  And one of them went to spit on the other, and missed and it ended up nailing my buddy right on the side of his face.  So me and my 2 friends get up, the one who got nailed in the face is like 6'4" and is rather intimidating upon first glance, although he is the biggest Sally known to man.  Immediately, the dude was like 'I don't have a problem with you guys', so LD11 exclaims that he DOES indeed have a problem with the dude, who was simultaneously pulling out a bandanna with a padlock tied to the end and starts whipping it around like he was in Braveheart and going after the kid and his friends...and us.  Immediately LD11 reached for his full cup of coffee...

THis is a moment in time that I think could have changed my life had things happened differently.  I used to be able to throw a little bit, so when I grabbed my coffe cup without hesitation I began to wing it at bandana padlock guys face.  One of my friends right about the release point hit my arm to stop me but it was too late.  The coffee cup came flying out, full of hot coffee, but his stoppage of release sent it into the ceiling at a high velocity right through the roof.  Immediately glasses, cups, plates, everything start winging past my head and the cops showed up and it was over...

Now, had my friend not hit my arm, there is a good chance I could have killed that dude that night.  I coffee mug fastball from LD11 is a potentially life-threatening situation.  Still to this day, I wonder what may have happened.  THat dude and I may be sharing jail cells.

On the contrary, there was broken glass all in my plate of gravy fries, and I never got to eat them.  And rumor has it, that was my last trip ever to Bob's Diner, never to eat those delicious fried morsels of pleasure ever again.

And that...is a little taste of Watervliet.

PBR...

well done KS good luck w/ the new job....

v'liet is a small school football town much like where i am from. In fact we became rivals after beating them in the section II playoffs and then again the following year in the Sec II championship game.  My little tidbit for those clowns was when a parent and assistant coach wrote to the troy record saying that my highschool def co. Was stealing their play calls.  They said we were cheating because he would look at the formation and the signal they sent in and call out a number. We had wrist bands with 50 plays on it they number he called out would tell us the potential play.   Sounds like good scouting to me.

Oh and that town was only on the way to Siena where the women were located.

Any 518'ers remember Muddy's ?

Right over the bridge in v'liet its a small little building. Bar/grill/Boobies      we always used to take somone who had never heard of it there for lunch.  The look on the face of an 18 yr old freshman who walks in expecting a couple of beers and a burger and sees a topless waitress in a thong is priceless.
