being 1000 miles away from Troy Hills 12180 (I just made that up, pretty gay huh? I like it) I don't know whats going on at RPI, but I know coach king. Today might be the most intense practice this team has seen in years. I feel bad for the one kid that jogs when he should run, or blows a simple read, or just looks at coach wrong... because that kid is getting jacked up like you read about.

And if kinger misses a kid when he messes up, look for Ort to follow through.

So I recently heard a story about Coach King from the father of a former player. The player was a standout OL at a local H.S. and was recruited by King. Kid thinks he's all that, so he takes it easy over the summer. Shows up on campus, Joe takes one look at him and asks "Why haven't you been working out over the summer?" "Didn't really think I needed to." King shakes his head a bit and shrugs.

A bit later, they're suited up for practice. First play, a noticeably smaller defensive lineman LAUNCHES this kid back several yards and onto his back - just about knocks the wind out of him. King comes over, stands over the kid, and says "THAT's why you should have been working out all summer!"

Hobart Football ranked 21st in first coaches poll

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart football team is the lone Liberty League squad ranked in the first American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll of the season. The Statesmen hold down the No. 21 spot in the weekly top 25.

Hobart improved to 2-0 with a 31-27 win at William Paterson on Saturday. The Statesmen scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to wipe out a 21-7 halftime deficit. Senior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 53 yards to lead the offense.

Hobart's defense, which limited the Pioneers to just a single touchdown in the second half, was paced by senior linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.), who recorded a team-high 10 tackles.

The Statesmen are ranked 19th in the D3football.com poll, which is voted on by coaches, sports information directors, and media.

Several Hobart players are listed in the top 20 in the national statistics compiled by the NCAA. Senior linebacker Evan Hoffman (Fairfield Prep/Fairfield, Conn.) is fourth in forced fumbles (1.0/g). Junior cornerback Corey Cage (Henninger/Syracuse, N.Y.) is ninth in passes defended (2.5/g) and 10th in interceptions (1.0/g). In kickoff returns, junior Steve Sorhaindo (Yorktown/Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and sophomore Ryan LiDrazzah (Kent School/San Diego, Calif.) are ninth (33.0 yds/ret) and 13th (30.0), respectively. First-year kicker Denis Avdic (Utica-Proctor/Utica, N.Y.) is 20th in field goals per game (1.0).

The Statesmen open Liberty League play at Rensselaer on Sept. 23. Kickoff at Class of '86 Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca) will carry all of the action live.

The Engineers are No. 24 in the D3football.com poll and receiving votes in the AFCA poll. Last season, Hobart outlasted Rensselaer 54-48 in triple overtime, the longest game in both schools' histories.

before I get back into destroy Hobart mode (p.s. try explaining the magnitude of Hobart week to co-workers in SEC country) I have a question for LLPP. Who should I start in fantasy football?

Rex "I got game, really" Grossman vs. the vikings
or
Carson "stop asking about the knee" Palmer vs the steelers

Does 'Gro get responses like:

1) DIII its not much better than high school, right?

2) Only players that suck play DIII

JT gets responses like that, especially when he says his team is ranked No. 3.

USC?
No.
Rowan.

WTF is a Rowan?

JT explains and usually gets response 1 or 2 from Big Time College Football Moron.

JT -

I get the same reaction out here in Pac10 country.  At least the LA Times (and even more so the Daily News) has gotten better with coverage on D3 ball - Oxy and CLU in particular.

Gro -

Interesting quandry re: FF.

My gut reaction is to start Carson b/c he's a proven commodity while Grossman really only has one great start - against an incredibly bad Houston D - last week.

Both games the Vikes have played vs. the Skins and the Panthers have been low scoring affairs that came down to FGs and/or trick plays to win.  For some reason I don't see Grossman lighting it up - especially now that the Vikes play a heavy run (C Taylor) game and keep things slow.  I think the Bears win, but it will probably be one of those 16-12 games with a ton of FGs.

The Steelers D looked great vs. JAX on MNF, but they are coming off a short week and Cincy will be looking to avenge last year's playoff debacle.  Besides, Cincy has way more scoring threats than JAX any day of the week.

Either way you are looking at around 200 yds passing and (MAYBE) 2 TDs if you are lucky.  Starting Palmer (my USC bias aside), is the best move for now.

Those people that snicker at d3 are the same retardicons that drank 27 beers and would each nacho cheese stuffed beef franks in the parking lot while "their college team" was going through pregame warmups.

People who know anything about football understand the various levels.

And AJ didnt king play noseguard?

Sometimes you get some yahoo who went to penn state or some other football factory and they make fun of D3 because their team is "obviously" better. Then sometimes you get some complete jerkoff who NEVER went to college but bleeds... for this example lets use tennessee orange and refers to the Vols as "we". and THEY make fun of the team that I actually PLAYED for just because its D3? are you kidding me? both of those people irritate gro.

Then on the flip side... some people ask if I had a scholarship or went to the NFL combine. I'm like "have you ever seen an NFL player?".

Reno Hightower

Gro, always play the best player.

And definetly hit up Muddy's. No smite for now but if you don't make a trip the next time you are in the 518 you will be smitten.

Red Swarm to the West

Gro...

Carson "My knee is just fine thank you" Palmer would be my choice...

Rex "I can implode any time now" Grossman is playing in a hostile dome environment and the Vikings are playing some inspired ball right now...

The Steelers are also coming off a Monday night game and a short week to prepare for a very good offense...

Just my humble opinion...hope it is helpful input as you make your choices...

Who'd have thought that we would rank Hobart higher than the AFCA? That never happens to the Liberty League. :)

Looking forward to Hobart/RPI on Saturday.

And just think, when RPI wins Saturday, the AFCA won't have either ranked.

Take in all you can from Troy and '86 field. Watch the game from the stands, the catwalk and the endzone. After the game someone should be able to point you towards the ruck for the best wings you've had in your life. I just drooled on my keyboard.

And if you want a pregame interview with any RPI player. Just walk in the locker room disguised as a raquetball player. They won't stop you.
