what the heck happened to MSU?? Caught part of it up until halftime at 31-14 figured ND was done and then turn to channel figuring game was over and it was 40-37 with 45 secs left...

IC - RT is still trying to figure out the ND game. Unreal. RT sat here and was pissed at Quinn all night because it looked like he was missing open guys and playing like crap. Next thing RT knows, Quinn's racked up 300yds and 5 TDs....wtf?? Some wild plays in this one....too many to name. Watch for it as an instant classic on ESPN, for sure...still can't believe the IRISH won it. They should've got on the bus and hot tailed it out of East Lansing.

RT -

TGP is an avid Bart fan and even TGP will tell RIL to RIP.

After a busy day of being Super Dad, TGP just finished catching TGP's grad skool alma mater TCB it vs. the AZ Cats (had to Tivo due to TGP's wife being super-pregs with TGP jr and TGPs 2 yr old daughter taking up the rest of TGP's time).

Respectible showing by AZ D, but SC D holding them to 16 yds rushing!?!?

Now that's Tenacious!

As for ND - TGP had mixed feelings.  Being an SC fan leads to hating the Irish almost as much as the suck azz FUCLA Broons (who lost to U-Dub today LOL!).

However, with 50 yd line tix on hand to see ND-SC in November, TGP is somewhat glad the Irish came back thus keeping a greater sense of intrigue to the game (Irish-SC is always great, but a loss tonight would have crushed ND's season giving them no shot at a BCS bowl) and justifying the small ransom TGP paid for said tix.

All in all twas a good Saturday.

RE: ND
So MR refused to watch any more of the game after the start of the 3rd Q (and 2 minutes of the Q when Reg called her down when it was within 10 points)....anywhooo
Reg left in the 4th to put the boat away and I had a funny feeling about the game, So I call gro who proceeds to tell me that ND is up 40-37...(I thought it was a sick and twisted joke.)  Bottom line, Reg had it recording where he watched the final few minutes of the game and still have no clue how ND pulled this one out.

Warning, If your name is Brady or QUinn, I hope someone on that campus whoops your azz this week.  Dude, you went from Hiesman frontrunner to a guy running around the field with like a jerk. I dont know how he had over 300 yards passing.

Gro, thank you for your time.

Whatever & what is res ipsa loquitur?

Res ipsa loquitor is a legal term that means, "The thing, it speaks for itself."  It is often applied in medical cases in which a certain medication causes injuries to numerous individuals, but there is no technical link between the drug and the effect.  In order to clear this legal proof hurdle, courts have accepted the view that in such cases, the fact that the injuries occurred and cannot be attributed to another cause means that the drug in question caused the injury (i.e., the cause of the injury speaks for itself through the injury's existence).

However, the RIL on this board has a slight problem in terms of he doesn't let a score speak for itself.  Thus, his name is unfitting...perhaps even hypocritical.  Needless to say, the league is lining up nearly identically to last season already...and we all remember the ramifications of the Union-RPI game last year if things do end up playing out the same way.

Ha.  Good post.

Glad to see you back, Mr. Rossi.

BTW - Hobart beat RPI in soccer today too (yeah, nobody cares including TGP).

Counselor Rossi -

Thank you for the concise legal analysis.  TGP especially enjoyed the cross examination in where you made the witness (RIL) appear hypocritical.

Nicely done.

Anyhoo, since TGP is about 1 bottle o' vino in, let's look at today's stats!!!

Since everyone already knows that the turnover's decided the game, TGP will have to dig deeper to come up with something to justify "drunk posting" (as if none of this crowd has EVER been guilty of that?!?) on the LLPP.

Based on TGP's half in the bag analysis, TGP has found many ways this game was dead even.

1st downs - HC 14, RPI 15 (both teams had 8 rushing, while HC had 6 to RPI's 7 in passing)
Total plays - HC 61, RPI 64
3rd down conversions - HC (5 for 13 or 38%) vs. RPI (7-15 or 46%)
4th down conversions - HC (1 for 1), RPI (3 for 3)
Avg yds per play - HC 4.3, RPI 5.0
Sacks - 2 for -10 for both squads

However, TGP's vote for (other) stat of the day was HC holding RPI to only 94 net yards rushing.

TGP will defer to the RPI crew, but it HAS to be a while since RPI has been held under 100 yds rushing in a game (hopefully this didn't just happen last week as well otherwise TGP will seek legal representation from Counselor Rossi) right?

TGP, you're lucky that Frank got to you first about the RIL definition. BTW, Frank, based on some Martindale stalking and your own bio, I see that I nearly accepted a Summer Associate offer from your old firm (McDermott), but I decided against it after a lot of research and realizing that the firm is pretty cheap. Anyways, I digress.

TGP, seeing as how I spent some time working in the UCLA Athletic Department, I must say that it takes a real man to take pot shots at the most successful athletic department in the HISTORY OF D1 ATHLETICS. I mean, it's not like UCLA has TWICE the number of total national championships as USC does or anything. Nope, USC fans will always take shots at UCLA for the ONE sport that the Trojans are better at.

Keep in mind, the Trojans fans are pretty silent come basketball season. What makes USC fans so bitter? Is it the fact that they pay 3x the tuition for 1/2 the education that UCLA students receive? And, believe me, I'd love to hear the argument that USC is a better school than UCLA (unless you're a physical therapist, then I grant you the point). So keep fighting on, enjoy watching OSU/Auburn in the national title game, and I look forward to your "We're USC, we're undefeated, how the hell are we not in the national championship" posts come January.

Bizarre post. RT didn't get the feel from TGP that he was smoking USC....so not sure where the UCLA vs. USC talk came from. RT enjoys the posts from TGP....good banter within our LL house.  No one cares about college hoop in Sept (or Oct or Nov for that matter). Also, the LL is like NATO. An E8 guy calling a fellow LL'er a moron?? You've just launched missiles at my sovereign nation.

GB15 better coach the IC boys up this week.........eeesh. RT predicted IC would thump SJF. WTF??

How one's fortune can change so drastically TWICE in one night???

1 of my bets yesterday was a 3 team parlay, with Tulsa +4.5 vs Navy, Buffalo +41 vs. Auburn and Onio St. -16.5 vs Penn St.  Well I had the first 2 in the bag and Ohio St. was up 14-6 with like 4 minutes left in the game....2, count em, 2 INT's returned for TD's to cover the spread.  Normally, this would have only happened to me if I chose Penn St. and THOUGHT I had it in the bag.  So....that made my night...

and then...

I also took Louisville -14 vs. Kansas St. parlayed with ND -2.5 vs. Mich St.  So I thought that one was over too.  Louisville won early in the day and covered and ND was getting killed, and i didn't really care cause i already hit the big one.  ND with a miraculous comeback, LD11 covers and wins again!!!

I was undefeated in my picks yesterday.  Maybe some good fortune rolling into today?

Pat, I'm a little dissapointed you only captured 1 fumble in all of those pictures.  i figured you could have taken 1 picture every 2 RPI offensive plays, and you would have gotten 73 fumble pictures.  Makes me want to puke.

And not knocking his play, and how well he did yesterday or in his career, but Hobart's QB in the pictures, doesn't look likemuch of an athlete to me.  Maybe it was just some bad poses or something.  Can anyone verify this phenomenon?

TGP appreciates the support.  However, gobombers15 is clearly just expressing his frustration over IC and UCLA's losses against teams that were previously thought of as inferior by each school.

First off, TGP's Dad spent some time at UCLA as well so TGP is VERY familar with said institution and its storied programs.

Secondly, as rivals most SC and UCLA fans have typically enjoyed the back and forth of the rivalry (btw - up until last season didn't SC beat UCLA 5 out of the last 6 basketball games anyway?) and TGP works with a ton UCLA guys, and we can all bust balls about the ups and downs of our particular teams without having a hissy fit.

(Why do some folks freak out at the slightest digs on these boards?  TGP has read many posters on the LLPP call Bart the Pumpkinheads forever and TGP thought it was funny, instead of a direct insult that undermined the program and school.  Anyhoo, TGP disgresses.....).

You can call TGP a moron if you like - TGP won't take such words seriously.  Believe me, TGP has been called much worse by his UCLA buddies.

Football is cyclical - for instance, Hobart may have won 5 in a row vs. RPI, but the opposite could happen starting next year.  Same deal with SC football - it wasn't that long ago that UCLA had won 8 in a row vs. the Trojans and the "University of Spoiled Children" rants came raining down on us.

Sorry your teams lost gb15.  You'll get em next year!

TGP will now return to being Super Dad.

Enjoy your  NFL games today gentlemen.  Good luck if you've got action.

Hey Pat - Nice pix!

Ah. Mr. Rossi.  Thank you for educating the masses in a fundamental theory critical to products liability litigation.  The maxim originated in a case by an individual plaintiff that was disfigured when a glass bottle filled with a carbonated beverage exploded in his hands.  Unable to prove whether the actual cause of the explosion was the filling of the bottle or a latent defect in the bottle itself, the plaintiff plead res ipsa.  The fact that the explosion occurred proves negligence of some kind, even if the exact cause cannot be pinpointed.

But please, Socrates, do not end the lesson there:

Enlighten me as to the hipocracy of simply pointing out the bold talk by RPI posters here and elsewhere on the site of "separating themselves from the rest of the league" with a win, the mediocrity of the previous Bart wins, and the nearly forgone conclusion that Hobart would crumble to dust on Saturday.

And with that simple post, which did not require even the sparce detail that was provided here, the message came through loud and clear.  Speaking for itself, the post said that--much like the the soda bottle--RPI exploded on the field.  Well, that, and the addition of a small taunt.

But that, my friend, is what the boards are (partially) about.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

A) I was drunk

B) If you go back and look at the comments last week re: IC/Fisher, you'll see that I made, by far, the least amount of posts of any IC fans. In fact, if you go way back, I have said on a number of occasions that I didn't think IC warranted a top-20 preseason rank and that, given their schedule, four losses was a real probability. I dont think I'm fretting too much about the loss.

RT is quite sure that's there plenty of folks who read PP that have achieved post graduate education, like yourself. RT is also of the belief that alot of titular initials behind someone's name doesn't make them any more intellectual than the next guy. RT's point - lose the Ivy League attitude because it is serving the opposite purpose for you. We all know HWS is an arts and letters school....if you wish to bask in the wine/chese/tweed blazer crowd, then go to the NESCAC board (or go to Union :) )

On your other point, please point RT to where there was alot of big "separation" talk going into the Hobart game?? RT just doesn't see it......there was no chest pounding or trash talking. Most RPI fans (or the ones who haven't been under a rock for the last 5 years) know the fits Hobart has given RPI. RPI seems to have a hard time w/ Hobart in recent years and this year wasn't expected to be an easy game, with the weapons Hobart brought back from '05. If you recall RPI's run to the final 4 in 2003, the only regular season lost RPI had was a thumping RPI took at home on the final game of the season by Hobart.....and RPI still went to the dance and went pretty far.

All RT asks is that if you're going to bring an argument, bring a factual one with specific references if you're going to call out RPI fans. Also, no need to dress it up or trying to "seperate" yourself from us nicumpoops with your fancy words, bushy moustache, hush puppy loafers, and fancy pipe.
