A) I was drunk

B) If you go back and look at the comments last week re: IC/Fisher, you'll see that I made, by far, the least amount of posts of any IC fans. In fact, if you go way back, I have said on a number of occasions that I didn't think IC warranted a top-20 preseason rank and that, given their schedule, four losses was a real probability. I dont think I'm fretting too much about the loss.

A) that's no excuse. Some RT's best work (or worst, depending on how you view it) comes while under the influence of distilled or brewed (and RT doesn't mean tea)beverages

B) come on hombre....this isn't about other posters, it's about YOU!! You jumped one of the LL regulars up in our piece......of course you're going to get called out. Especially when IC puts on that turd of a performance against a team everyone in here hates anyway? Not alot of things going in your favor on this one. Take the monkey stomp like a man, don't refer us to other posters, and take that Pac10 shizz to another board. Because Zachattack has not posted since the end of last season, ZT's main purpose of this post is to wish everyone well.  Besides surgeries and moving away from the area, ZT admits he lost interest in posting due to being told by several Union fans that ZT was "too critical" of the team at times.

Then ZT decided that being semi- "grown up" should provide an understanding that the ability to self criticize and accept constructive criticism is a sign of adulthood!

Well, at the risk of being reminded about being "too critical" and being a little too old to change....let me be, well....critical.

I saw the Springfield game...When a QB has 265 yards rushing, and not the tail back, I think its time we ask ourselves why we cannot defend the option...and why we find it necessary to run trick plays when we could have actually told Springfield when and where Arcidiacano was going to run the ball and they still would have had no answer to it. Once again, Springfield recruits for offense only, it appears.

I listened to the Mules game on the internet and wondered if anyone noticed that midway through the 3rd quarter, we once again did our best at trying to give the game and the momentum back to the Mules when we had their defense totally exhausted, but found it necessary to continue to get into third and longs and go three and out due to play calling. The Mules, with a little different luck, could have scored twice and been back in the game. Hey coach, the idea is to keep their defense on the field and yours off the field as much as possible!!! Especially when their backs are up against the wall and they're exhausted...At that stage, the game is reduced to trying to get into 3rd and shorts and be in a position to get first downs and keep the Mules defense on the field. Gee, how hard is that to understand?

I listened to the Rochester game and we did everything humanly possible to let a team hang around and make a comeback that never should have been possible and set our season back in rediculous fashion.

I was happy that the radio broadcast continued to be of such high quality.  Frank and Carm offered up no excuses such as the two touchdowns called back, or the needless turnovers, etc...They acknowledged these helped keep Rochester in the game, however, gave props to Rochester for being able to do something with what they were given.  Frank acknowledged Union was lucky to get out of there alive, but of course, a "win is a win" we'll take it,

It seems like not that much has changed from last year...Hobart once again, appears to play the most consistent although maybe too conservative, Union continues to have multiple personalities showing signs of greatness and then signs of, well, "blah", and RPI continues to have slow starts and then make the best halftime adjustments, never being counted out.

I hope everyone is doing well and I plan on getting to the Union/RPI game, the best rivalry in D-3 Football....and I'll try not to be so, well...."critical".

Springfield was an odd bird of a game.  It wasn't really the QB's yards on the ground that did Union in...Rather, it was his unexpected passing proficiency that really did in the Dutchmen that night.  You almost expect Springfield to achieve 400 yards on the ground each game, but nobody, especially in the first game of the season, was ready for the QB's arm.  Let's give props to Springfield, though -- they're performing quite well in general this season.  I predicted 10-0 after the Union game, and I'm not swaying from it.

Audino admitted to us at halftime, "We got what we deserved," even with his team up by a possession after one half.  The X-Factor of the game was that the poor performance of the offense in certain stretches of the game actually matured the defense that, when you go back to last year, gave up 38 or more points in three of the prior four games.  That was crucial for this season to become a success, and except for the the fourth quarter yesterday, the defense held strong since the second half of the Muhlenberg game.

I appreciate the compliments, ZT...And we've been blessed with two great color commentators this year, as you know.  I went on, according to my parents, ad nauseum about the problems Dutchmen caused themselves throughout the game, so I won't beat a dead horse.  However, I feel the game was one more wakeup call.  King's Point would have beaten Union yesterday if the same mistakes were made.  Hobart beat RPI yesterday after such mental lapses and poor play, based on the analysis I received from that game.  We always used to say in 2005 that the only team that could beat Union is actually Union itself.  I fear that if another "wake-up call" is needed, it will be an insurmountable loss that will be the cause.  This season can still be a huge success, but he LL is high quality.  Take no opponent for granted this year.

Frank

P.S. Sorry to hear about the surgeries.  You're missed on this board, no doubt.  I hope you continue your assessments.

zachattack22

Thanks Frank...I'm on the west coast right now so its only 9:20pm here so I'm up to post.  I think what will most likely occur is that Union, RPI and Hobart will improve greatly over the season and the end of the year will be as exciting as ever...however, I think there are higher chances of other teams pulling off upsets this year compared to last year.

I just want to make it clear that I am NEVER down on the players.  D-3 football players deserve the utmost respect as they are playing for the love of the game at many schools that are difficult to graduate from without playing a sport like football.

I'm mainly critical on coaching and coaches...and their "tunnel vision" they get during the games.  And the pressure they seem to feel to "fool" the other team when all they're doing is hurting themselves. Every offensive possession is absolutely critical and I see too many wasted when coaches start thinking about what they WANT versus what they NEED.  I'm certainly a lover of the "big play" but the percentage of big plays in college and the nfl that go for more than 40 yards are actually passes between 5 and 15 yards. I'd like to see Union play more possession offense which will lead to more big strikes anyway.  Bottom line...if I need three yards on third and three, and I'm going to throw to get them....then trust me, the pass will be four yards and keep my offense on the damn field.  But we must like punting the ball away as if we had the Union defenses of old that gave up 6.8 points a game. That defense doesn't exist anymore, partly to the wide array of offensive talent out there in D-3....What defenses were stifling last year? I didn't see too many!  So, offensive play calling and keeping the ball away from other potent offenses may be the best defense to offer!!!

Well, there is something to be said about a guy who made $2.5M this year.  Dallas women can do the math.  So, this golfer's stroke is that good, she must like it. ;D 8)  :)

just caught up with the posts... RPI's turnovers MAKE ME SICK!!  Seriously, talk about a problem that is completely preventable. Good game by Hobart (and one of my earlier posts said the exact opposite that bart would be the team turning the ball over... dang it). Not a good weekend for gro.

to further describe what will go down as "kick in the nuts weekend 2006" not only did the alma matter implode against Hobart but fantasy team A lost to TwinBrotherGro aka LawyerGro, fantasy team B (LLPP) is on shaky ground going into monday night, and  Notre Dame winning always gives me dull pains in the abdomen similar to 30 seconds after taking a hit in the bag.

Also, Gro went 5-8 vs the spread in his NFL pool but wisely did not do any side action via the internet bookie.

moving forward... the U and RPI sitting side by side at #26 & #27 in the D3 poll. If RPI doesn't execute a flawless monkey stompout vs.  (Who the F is) Becker this weekend, well, gro may have to turn in his golden TI-82.

My first game at hallowed '86 Field - Random observations..

The atmosphere/surroundings are great for a game.. deserves more fans

For an engineering school, for a sound system is two horrible sounding speakers above the scoreboard the best they can do?

Admission on the honor system.. new one on me.

Field has a very pronounced crown to it

Dance team needs a bit of work..

At times, band was playing during plays

End zone fans..(I assume some of this board) was certainly original in getting on the officials.. Near the end of the first half during a time out  the referee was trying his best to be cool  and ignore the hecklers, I think the "Did you do the Oklahoma - Oregon game last week?" got his attention.

Teams were fairly even.. As previous poster said, could have been uglier score wise given RPI turnovers.

Wondered about last kickoff as well.. why not onsides?

RPI D-line has played pretty well all year.

Great stick by Rayhill.

Have been to many FB games over the last 40 years.. more and more it seems like the officials are simply overmatched .. don't know how to describe it.. Officiating is worse and worse at all levels.. I mean because you pass the test doesn't make you a capable official.

Muffed punt, missed handoff, those two hurt. Not only were they both on RPI's side of the field they were in tennis jargon - unforced..

Think RPI will fly from here on.  They have showed brief flashes on O. Penalties and turnovers haver hurt. Defense has played pretty well.
