Frank Rossi

If Union sucks so much, why won't anybody take any side bets on the game? (ahem...'gro?  RT?)

DEA who is your son on the team bud?

Rev... No offense meant with last post. Totally messin... I hope Hobart wins out and we both can make some noise in the playoffs again.

How was the game... blow out or fight?

Mess all you want, m'man.  The Rev was really disappointed by the game.  As Rev mentioned, could not decide if score accruately reflected performance.  Hobart had some really good plays, but for every good play, there were 20 mediocre ones and one really stupid, unnecessary penalty.  The Rev considers it a blow-out.  Union was clearly the superior team on the field that day.  The Rev reckons that if football were like baseball in terms of frequency of meetings, out of ten games, Union would win at least 7.

The Rev would like to see the Statesmen enter the playoffs, too, but wonders if it would be worth anyone's time and trouble.  So maybe 'Bart could face some pogues in the first round and then get knocked out in the 2nd round.

The Rev concurs with the opinion stated here (I believe by Frank Rossi) that Coach Cragg has become too conservative with play calling.  In fact, so conservative as to be predictable.  Rev thinks Union could read the plays like a comic book.  So the victory was an intellectual as well as physical feat.  The Rev would like to see more balls-out plays.

Currently The Rev is still cooling down.  He arrived in PHX after 11pm after sitting on a plane with crying babies and toddlers for nearly 6 hours (because we sat on the tarmac at EWR for an hour waiting for a slot).  The Rev now has something else to be pissed about instead of the game.

Rev -

Sorry to hear your trip to Geneva was somewhat a bust.  At least you got to catch up with the fam as well as see some old fellow Hobartians.

TGP has to disagree on one thing though - we can't dogg Cragg on the play calls since it is actually Coach DeWall's as the OC to call the offense.  Cragg, has been, and always will be more focused on defense.  Not sure if this year's club doesn't have the same calibre of playmakers, but it seems like DeWall has been going for the gusto as much as he did in previous years.

TGP wonders if DeWall has gotten more conversative with age?  DeWall is still a pretty young kid - Bart class of 2000 - so maybe he was a little more ballsy/reckless since he "didn't know better" a few seasons back.  You can't deny the kid's talent, as we have seen 2 QBs pass for over 5000 yds in the last 4-5 seasons.

This season TGP thinks they have been too dependant on Blakowski, and since the OL hasn't really stepped up, Bart becomes one dimensional, and thus more conversative in tight games.

Although TGP understands TGP's karma will be severly damaged by the following statement/question, in TGP's own defense, TGP is all whacked out on antihistamines (thx to the nasty santa ana winds blowing up all sorts of s*** in the already polluted socal air), so TGP requests some leniency in the doling out of TGP's punishment:

In reading the game notes for the Bart-Union game TGP noticed the final paragraph that stated:

"Union faces RPI next week for the 104th time, and leads the series 78-21-4. It will be the 57th meeting for "The Dutchman Shoes" Trophy, and Union leads 44-12 in the 56 meetings for the shoes. The Dutchmen won in 2005 at home, 49-42."

Is a rivalry game still a true rivalry when the results are this lopsided?  The U has a 75.7% winning percentage all time,  78.5% in the "shoes" series.

Has the series been "more even" in recent years?  Please help a drowsy TGP understand.

And even though they beat Bart - UNION STILL SUCKS!

Union's football team is pretty good.  The guys that post here are decent dudes.  I even bet there are a FEW cute girls, that aren't the biggest d-bags known to man...But Union, in general, and everything that surrounds it's being, sucks.  Sorry man.  UNION SUCKS!!!

Re: Dutchman's Shoes Game

Dear Mr. Rossi,

As an alumnus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and former participant in NCAA Division III athletics Gro feels that his actions associated with the upcoming football contest between RPI and Union College on November 11, 2006 should be held in the same high standards as RPI, Union, and the NCAA all hold to themselves. Gro considers himself an ambassador of his former institute of higher learning and a role model for current RPI student athletes. Therefore, Gro must refrain from any course of action that would negatively reflect on RPI, including but not limited to gambling or wagering of any kind, or unsportsmanlike conduct towards game officials or opposing players, fans, coaches, sponsors, and administrators.
Gro can safely assume that Mr. Rossi shares the same enthusiasm and pride in the Dutchmen that Gro does with the engineers, and while Gro will support the engineers 100% and believes wholeheartedly that they will be victorious this Saturday, it is not in the best interest of Gro nor RPI to have an open wager, even a gentlemen's wager, on said contest.  That being said...

UNION SUCKS!!!

TGP

RPI beat Union in 1886... from 1886 to about 1989 RPI was god awful, not just against Union. I think they lost 40 straight in the 60's. There's your lopsided record right there. Union has the edge, and they've earned it. They even have the edge in the coach King era, but most games have gone down to the wire.

Gro -

Thx for the history lesson.  To be honest, TGP was very surprised to see the all time record was so one-sided.

YAWN...

bigdvs

tgp,

dont ask them what they think the all time is though, somewhere along the line this engineering school decided to give themselves 2 more wins then they actually have.

bigdvs could easily reply with the same 2 word negative statement about RPI that has followed all of their posts but instead will choose to keep it positve (Hands over head like a true O'Doyle)

UNION RULES!!

Gro was going to go way into left field with that letter... but decided to keep it Frank Ricard style... it's only day 1 of union week.

If I were there Saturday, I'd challenege you to a gentleman's dual.  Or just a wing off.  Or a drinking contest.

Darts were already scheduled...However, darts and/or drinking contests really have no relation to the game itself -- That's like going to the Sportsbook when you're in Vegas and ignoring the craps tables.
