UNION 82

Good man, Zach.

The Liberty League blog issued a policy previously this year,
(while meeting in a slow moving, white Bronco) stating:

1) No drinking and driving
2) Use your resources (ex children, chicken wings, beer, ice)
     wisely,
3) Be kind to the earth- believed to be inspired by the
Hakowee's; friends from over the horizon
4) Don't get trapped in to sense-less pissing matches
with E-8, they are merely for our amusement.

Probably see ya Saturday, with miniature UNION 82
proto-types. (Two sons).
Take sh*t from no man, woman, child, or small animal.

I love how my karma plummets the most after I make my one football post of the day about Felicetti's mobility. I guess football is a sore subject on this board.

GoBombers15 took Mrs.GoBombers15 to Cold Stone Creamery to appease her for the excessive time spent on PP this week. On the way home, GB15 asked Mrs.GB15 for a bit of her ice cream. GB15 enjoyed the bite so asked what her concoction contained. Mrs.GB15 responded "cake batter ice cream, cherries, almonds, chocolate, and yellow cake." This, of course, prompted me to say "YELLOW CAKE?! I didn't want to say this but the motherf@#ker bought yellow cake, alright?! From Africa. He want to Africa and bought some yellow cake!" Besides believing she had just been called a motherf-er by GB15, Mrs.GB15 then believed I had attained that quote from the time spent on the LL board. This, in small part, is correct as I was reminded of that skit today.

At this point, Mrs.GB15 hasn't spoken to me in 90 minutes. The limits of the LL posters to affect people's lives is limitless. To close with a Chappelle's Show quote for all the Union posters, I give you Silky Johnston:

"I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I don't even know you, but I hate you. I hate your guts. I hope all the bad things in life happen to you and only to you."

Frank, I respect your response. I haven't heard a Union football broadcast. I feel that you are walking a fine line as broadcaster and a poster here. However, it seems as though you know your head from your rear (i mean that as a compliment).
It's buffoons and homophobes like Uold that cause me to make assumptions about other posters.

You respect his response AFTER calling him a bafoon!!!  Give ZA a break...That's B.S.

It's ok Zach...Takes a big man to take back strong words...

No, but what will start to make me cry is when I'm laughing so hard at how red your face is as I'm giving you the one-finger salute after the game while you're interviewing Audino about what went wrong for Union in the game.

Perhaps this was the line that hit your karma, 15.

Pat, how can you be everywhere all the time. This is getting ridiculous. Grido, I don't think I can make it now. Too much to do this weekend and I'll be out of town all next week for thanksgiving. I'll def be  in 'Boro or Wilkes should we be victorious.

RT,Dawg,'Gro-

Looking for some advice on setting up fake voice mail messages or auto responders on e-mail etc.... work is really getting in the way of keeping up to date on PP. Perhaps RT's solution of handing in resignation would be the best plan.

Any feedback would be appreciated

SJU Section 105

OK...so let's recap RT's status, in no specific order.

It's 1:51am and RT has had several beers w/ some friends and just got done w/ a monster jam session on guitars...songs  covered (in RT style)
- Electric Avenue  - Hungry Like the Wolf
- Photograph       - Talk Dirty To Me
- You Shook Me All Night Long  - Dirty Deeds
- Dr.Feelgood      - Sympathy For the Devil
- Take on Me (yes..by Ah-Ha)  - Jesse's Girl
- Friday I'm In Love   - Little Red Corvette
- Anna Godda Divida  -  Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash)

...you get RT's drift....RT has had tooooo many Heineken's and is annoyed that since 2:30pm when he last signed on, he has to dig back through 10 pages of posts.

RT noodling on how he is going to peform in the mandatory 8am Friday customer meeting. RT is supposed to present in said meeting...

yes...RT DID hand in said resignation today....went over like a fart in church. Anyway, has anyone else done the "drunken dial" of the cell phone??...RT thinks he's called (so far)

- 3 of his ex girlfriends
- one of RT's soon-to-be-ex Vice President's
- some random person
- any name in RT's phone that appears female (and some that are on the fence)

ok..enough of this. Come 11am when RT is back on, he will realize this nonsense and delete this post....

Hey Go bombers....First of all, ZA and most others don't think the E-8 is "inferior"...Most expect a tight game....It's D-3 football for cryin out loud....Certain leagues might have consistently stronger programs from their top one or two teams, but from the looks of things, each league has their share of teams that are so-so!!!

You guys started bragging about tougher schedules, and tougher offenses, etc...

Don't see where anyone has bragging rights as to playing THE toughest schedule....Don't think anyone called the E-8 a "sham" as was stated recently about the LL....To play THE toughest schedule a team from the E-8 would have to play almost every game but two or three, outside their conference...Same for any league...

Fantasy schedule for Union to achieve THE toughest schedule to prove to the E-8 we're for real....

Game 1- RPI, Game 2-Hobart, Game 3-Cortland, Game 4-SJF, Game 5-ITHICA, Game 6-Delaware Valley, Game 7-Mount Union, Game 9-Linfield, Game 10, New England Patriots, Game 11-Pitssburgh Steelers...

Geesh...enough with the schedule...It's impossible to have every team in your league up to the calibre of the top two or three....Be careful of that yellow cake!

zach, I would say the bombers played a little tougher schedule.  Does it mean anything? No.  The nonleague teams IC played were tough teams and none of them could you call easy wins.  Were they as good as last year? No.  Could Union have gone 10-0 by playing those teams? Sure they could have....and Ithaca almost did too.  Bottom line, it should be a good game this weekend.  I dont think anyone has seen both teams live more than once.  The smack talk in here is pretty silly, but fun none the less..

Now, I am going to the Cabaret in Sagus.  Have a good night.

Let's give Jonny credit.  This is an example of a fan of another team I respect because he doesn't just foam at the mouth.  While it is full of opinion and lacks facts, he at least respects both sides of the argument.  GB15 could learn a lot from Mr. Utah.  I salute you sir.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

those are the facts frank......do they mean anything? No.  Could you make them look like Union has the better schedule? I guess.  I would think a non-biased fan would say Ithaca had a tougher schedule.  Hey, I thought SJF was a better team that Ithaca.  I was wrong.  Ithaca did the things they needed to do to get here.

But....I dont see any way you could say Union had a tougher non-conference schedule........Ithaca knew it had to basically beat sjf to make the playoffs and it did.  and here we are.

Frank Rossi

In the first two incarnations of the BCS formula, strength of schedule was comprised of the W/L percentage of the team's opponents, accounting for 75% of the score, and the W/L percentage of the team's opponents' opponents, accounting for 25%.  So, while what you showed means a little something, based even on the highest Division's standards (I-A), I think you need to step back and realize that there are mostly losses in the comparisons you showed.  In fact, the non-conference opponents' opponents were 3-13 in Ithaca's case vs. playoff teams (you have to throw out games vs. Ithaca in this situation), while they were 0-6 in Union's case.  What you've shown is actually more a result of the accidental nature of scheduling and only slightly points to strength/weakness of a team.

As you said, it pretty much is an unconvincing batch of information.  Nobody here has doubted the fact that both of these teams are strong.  What's started the war of BS is the idea several Ithica posters have had here that they will just blow away Union.  I heard these same things from Ithica posters in 1999, when Union was not the same team as it is in 2005, and Union won by 24.  It's like, "Have you learned nothing about how to poise yourself before a postseason game, ECAC or otherwise?"

Will it be a good game?  Yes.  Will the score reach Monkey Stomp heights?  Doubtful, unless some team tries to put together a haphazard comeback without success (the equivalent of the widening spread in basketball due to end-of-game free throws).  Are Ithica fans attempting to justify their faith in an Ithica romp based on this perception of a weak Liberty League?  Yes, and I really don't understand this one at all.  The two conferences' out-of-conference W/L percentages were virtually identical this season.  We have 3 head-to-head matchups this weekend.  They may prove a whole lot.  I think Alfred should be safe vs. Maine Maritime.

All the Ithica fans' hot air have done is take some of the fun of the game away and added some stress to what should be an exciting time for all the fans.  That's what irked me out of silence earlier this week.

JU,

Thanks, as always for your analytical approach to the maelstrom that is D3 football.

I was interested to see that Lycoming, along with other teams, had a competitive go with teams that are now in the post season.

I was there for the Wilkes game and it was very even as Lycoming was in the red zone as the game ended.  They just could not get er done.

The Widener game was sloppy and DVC not in doubt and we all know how things went against IC.

As usual, there are a number of quality programs that produce competitive teams that vie for a limited number of tickets to the dance.  I am pleased the MAC is playing such good football but only wish one of the cards went to the Warriors.

However, partisan loyalty aside, I hope Wilkes, DVC and Widener all smoke their opponents.

Thanks again for pointing out the difficulty in making comparisons between programs and results.

The best way is to head to head competition and even then outcomes turn on the very bounce of the odd-shaped ball.

All the best.

In the case of Division III football, I think, with the exception of D3football.com's broadcasts, there will be a home slant to the broadcasts.  Otherwise, the other team wouldn't need a broadcast; they could just relay back the home team's broadcast.

I have never made a claim that I am not a Union fan.  Even after three years at Harvard after my Union experience, I never became as closely acquainted with Harvard athletics.  The football team treats me like family; the coaching staff treats me like family; the fans and parents treat me like family.  These broadcasts are FOR THEM.  If other people listen and enjoy them, then that's gravy for us.  However, at the end of the day, if nobody but Union faithful were to listen, I'd be fine with that because they are the people who matter most to me personally.  Again, I do appreciate others who listen and critique.  Just don't hold excitement on my part against me because I'm not going to hide it.

So, say what you will about me personally, folks.  It won't change how I carry myself on here or on the radio.

Frank Rossi

Frank,

Your points are well taken. However, you are a broadcaster first, a fan second. You can be the home broadcaster and not be a "homer". You know, the broadcaster that always says on the air how their team got screwed by the officials that week, and it was "home town cooking" by the clock operators, and all that garbage. In addition, anytime a broadcaster says "we and us" I have a problem with that. You are not on the team. You are part of the broadcast, even if you are broadcasting for the College. This is sports PBP 101. Objectivity should prevail over emotions. It is a fine line, especially if you are close to the team, as an alum, fan, and long time broadcaster.

One thing to keep in mind, is that you can have a good relationship with the team, and they can treat you like family, but you still have to do your job. If Union can't move the ball or can't capitalize on opportunities, you have to say that. You can't sugar coat the facts and put a cherry on top, for your family. However, you can't go the other way, using the "S" word. Yes, the word "Stupid". We all have to keep in mind these are students first, athletes second. I think the only "Stupid" play, would be if a player gets into a fight, or the Coach punches an official, or the fans get the team a penalty (ask Bucknell about their lax streaker, or last year's fish toss at Hobart). If your relationship with the team colors your broadcast to the point you lose objectivity, you have to step back.

As a fan and a broadcaster of sports, I find a netural broadcast can be just as exciting, when the broadcasters get excited for great plays. Sure, get more excited for the home team, but a touchdown return is exciting, even if it is not for the team you broadcast. You will keep the respect of not only your fan base, but gain listeners of the sport, and earn respect of your colleagues.
