um... unless the exchange rate takes a big swing in a short period of time, there's nothing wrong with trading US for Canadian dollars. They don't charge you to exchange, unless you are dealing with some stoner at McDonalds.

I second what 'gro said.  Exchange rates attempt to smooth out valuation differences between currencies.  Only major jumps will have any real effect.

As a guy who spends alot of the summer in Canada at the 1000 Islands, RT will say that it is true that Canadian prices in touristy areas more than offset any benefit from exchange rates. Gas is expensive, booze is ridiculously expensive, any consumer items, etc...you get the point.  RT thinks (hopes) the point that the earlier guy was trying to make is that the Canadian casinos kill you on the table amounts. For example, when RT was in Niagara Falls a few weeks ago, the cheapest table they had on the floor for blackjack was $25.....Dice was a little better at $15 (same on Roulette). So, in essence, the Canuck casinos are charging more by having such high minimum tables. Even though the exchange rate works both ways, RT would rather stay in the US and play $5/$10 tables and reserve the right to make big bets on a hand if he wanted to. One other observation...there's always a spread between "buying" and "selling" American currency. For example, when RT is paying with American $ in Canada, he seems to get more exchange than when he's converting Canadian into American. Plus...NEVER NEVER NEVER pay with American cash anywhere in Canada. Always use a credit card to ensure bank rate, which is always much more favorable than any bar, restaurant, or other merchant's rate....

Update: Exchange Rates!!

While our quirky neighbors to the north prefer that we play with their monopoly money, Mexico is a whole other story. Drop a George Washington into the jar labeled "Tanks for the tips!" at any bar in cancun, and they treat you like donald trump.

No need to exchange dollar bills for pesos down south... 1st, they love the dollar and more importantly... there are no set prices for anything! It's a salesman's dream. You could walk into a souvenier shop with $5 and walk out with a 1987 VW bug and missing your left shoe.

But if you do ever visit meh-hee-co make sure you get a few pesos only so you can sing gro's favorite song from his trip there (preferably at 3am and under the influence). "28 pesos for a cor-ooooh-na!!"

Adding my comment, although my experience with the "exchange at the table is limited"

I would also assume that the exchanger is paying a "moderate" fee (ok not so moderate) at that table to do the exchange...

I am sure that if you read their fine print they are deducting XXX% for the "convenience" or other term, that makes the rate look decidedly poor against legitimate exchangers or FX houses....

Better to get to a bank to do the exchange prior to entering...

Who to cheer for? Fisher, due to their location relative to Geneva, or Rowan, the team that beat Hobart closely? I am not really a fan of "well, our lost to a team that was runner-up to the national champion" nor we should support the remaining New York State team. So, how chooseth, when the two remaining East teams are non LL?

This is The Rev's dilemma.

Rev actually would be more inclined to root for SJF because of the Western NY connection.

Nonetheless, having seen Rowan in action, The Rev thinks Rowan will win.  The Rev is not claiming Rowan will have an easy win.

In fact, The Rev hopes it turns into a knock-down, drag-out, bar-room brawl, no-holds-barred cage death match like Little Big Horn with no one surviving but the damn horse, Comanche.
My leaning is for Fisher, just for someone new to crack into the final rounds. However, the level after this game, for either team, will be a quick wake up call.

Wake up call? I think Rowan can win this round and the next, too.  We've beat Mount in Alliance before and we can do it again.  All the way this yeay, baby.  It's a shame you don't think the same for your team.

Yea, your ATM or Credit Card are the best ways to get the best rates in Canada.  Many of those exchange places charge like 12% or something criminal like that.  Even banks are almost 10% if you go to them.

"28 pesos for a cor-ooooh-na!!"

Gro, (aka blind eddie from Jeopardy)

Do you know why they originally put limes in / on Corona?

A- it's a Mexican tradition originating in the need to clean dust off
B- keep flies out of the mouth of the can.
C- it started as a marketing gimmick, and only tourists in Mexico drink their beer with lime
D- It makes a sub par mexican beer taste delicious

I look to the LLPP for the correct answer

B - otherwise they would've used lemon, which has an attractive effect.

Gotcha - You got to enjoy our normal overcast weather down here.  Unfortunately, 28 pesos here will get you a cap to a Corona, not the real thing.
