What would you do here?  Im my opinion, you do what you think your team is best suited for, and you cant make excuses after the game if you dont stop the other team.

JU, let me ask you this question, though.  Why didn't Hobart go for 2 after EVERY touchdown?  Every team thinks they have 3 or 4 2-point plays that are special in nature.  Hell, they could've traded 8 for 7 all day long, according to your theory.  The whole idea of "going for the win" is the idea that YOU CONTROL THE END OF THE GAME.  When Hobart went for 2, the team did not control the game because the clock was far from expiring.  Fifteen seconds left vs. 1:52 left -- two completely different philosophies.  I showed statistically on the other thread that a team in Hobart's position is 10-15% more likely to win, even as the road team, by going for 1 (and that percentage takes into account the idea that extra points are not givens).  If Cragg went for 1 and lost in OT, I would've had no problem at all with that.  In fact, we probably wouldn't have even considered this debate because it's such an oddball decision.  Name me one other time you've seen a team do what Hobart did with two minutes left.

Before I answer your first question, its easier to answer the question "why did they go for 2 there?"  There are a few reasons.  1) They saw something weak in the defense. 2) They had faith in their offense to have more than a 50%-90% chance of scoring on that play.

To have a simple answer to your first question, over a course of a season, you will probably score more points going for one than going for two.  Teams might catch on to your special plays and its not worth going for two the whole season anyway.

And you and I would never know if Hobart went for one and lost if there would be a problem with it (other than the fact that it didnt happen anyway)

And you cant have percentages on winning games with some formula after the two point play.

What if they kicked the XP, Rowan returns the kick for a TD and now Hobart has the ball again with time left.

What if they missed the XP and recover the onsides kick?

What if they missed the XP and dont recover the onsides kick?

I thought only Rowan posters took part in such scavenger hunts during their work release program breaks...

Frank, Tags thinks this is funny - but not in character. You're usually fairly sophisticated in your retorts :)

'The Red Sox agreed Thursday to a two-year contract with left-handed reliever Hideki Okajima worth about $2.5 million.

The 30-year-old Okajima was 2-2 with a career-low 2.14 ERA and four saves in 55 games last season with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of the Pacific League.'

The Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters?  I am amazed by that team name!

I hereby lobby to change RPI's mascot!

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Ham Fighters.  That has a nice ring to it.

RT has spent the last 3 days living in the drab and dreary world of the "first person". RT did not like it one bit, especially since it has involved RT going through the grinder the typical salesman's meatgrinder of closing out a year. When RT logged onto LLPP, he laughed at reading 4 pages of posts....LL is back in it's usual good form.

RT also hopes that the crew tunes into the d3.com broadcast of the Rowan/SJF game where yours truly will be doing color.

Did Reg take offense to Tags picking on MTV?

Pat Coleman

Nippon Ham is the sponsor of the team. Fighters is the mascot.
