The Rev says ignore the poor reviews.  The movie is not too gory.  The violence is not fetishistic as some critics suggest.  The violence is basically realistic, as it would have been back then on the Yucatan peninsula.

The Rev thinks critics have been panning the movie because:

a) It is not politically correct.  It shatters the image of pre-Columban America as a peaceful paradise on Earth.  It was, just like Europe prior to becoming civilized, a dark, brutal, hellish place in which death in imminent.
b) They don't like Mel Gibson.

The Rev read one review in which the critic said there is no connection between the Durant quote at the beginning of the film, and the film.  The Rev wonders how far this critic had his cranium shoved up his rectum.  The quote, "A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself within" is obviously and entirely germane to the movie and to the contemporary West.

But critics never like this stuff.  They'd rather have Al Franken pretending that he's smart and funny or George Clooney pretending that he's still handsome and has something worthwhile to say.

Less violent than the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan, and the Passion of the Christ.  Less gory than most horror movies, and more realistic.  A few beheadings, a couple split guts.  It's no big deal.  Critics talk about the violence as if this is the worst they've ever seen.  Humbug!

Go see it, Tags.  If you think it sucks, call The Rev out.

Check the Guru's use of the THIRD PERSON on E8 and my response:

Pat Coleman suggests as a former SID that that's the time to contact the people running the nominations to inquire as to what's going on ... but staying silent, that definitely worked out.

Frank Rossi admires Pat Coleman more today for having spoken in the third person.  Soon, he may begin ranting about non-football-related topics and Melissa on the various boards!

Yeah, that was my response to AUPepBand using LLPP third person out of context on E8 board. :)

Does the LLPP hold the third person patent? Can AUPepBand not use third person elsewhere? AUPepBand, while a cub-reporter-in-training at Morrisville State College, embraced the third person mindset and prefers it to first person. Incidentally, AUPepBand's newswriting prof, a Michigan State grad and lifelong Detroit Tiger and Spartan fan, nicknamed Pep "Alfred" because that's all he ever talked about. Nothing's changed.

To turn our thoughts back to the wholesome goodness of the gridiron...

The Rev hopes that We Are Marshall is a good movie.  Comes out December 22. Stars Matthew McConaughey.  Men, this is a good movie to take your girlfriend or wife to see.  She wants to see MMc and you want to see football.  Perfect.

I just hope there's alot of good football action and not too much B.S.  The Rev doesn't want some drippy sentimental story.  The Rev wants to hear the sound of helmets and pads crashing in Dolby surround.

huzzah!

It's a good night to have Drew Brees on Fantasy! Wow.....

Turning our thoughts back to the gridiron.....but back to the movie theatre... Anyone seen The Nativity? It hasn't come to Mayberry yet, but "Holiday" was a good flick according to AUPepBand's 21-year-old daughter.

The saints are obviously pretty dangerous...If they can do this to the cowboys in Dallas, it may hold well for them going into the playoffs!  They look better than Chicago has lately for sure.

yes...AU can use the 3rd person outside the LL but it may not always be as understood and as accepted as it is in these friendly confines. Proceed at your own risk. RT actually finds himself thinking in the 3rd person or wanting to speak in the 3rd person when sending work IM's or composing emails. RT is serious...has this happened to anyone else in the LL,Inc?

RT is down in JT and KS world. He came down to Hoboken this am to meet w/ his brother and friends to head to E.Rutherford to watch his beloved Buffalo Bills dismantle the J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!.  Perfect day for tailgate (48 degrees, sunny) and nice weather in the stadium! First time in the Meadowlands and RT absolutely filled his quota early in the day of down-state NY, gold wearing, Growing Up Gotti-looking cheezy fans. Every guy was trying to out ganster the other.

...hopefully someone started Drew Brees and the Saints FB in fantasy!!!!
