TGP would occassionally take Exit 41 off the NYS thruway on my way up to Geneva.  Coming up on Seneca Lake from the east was always a much nicer sight than driving thru the north end of Geneva.

Anyway, if you take 41 you end up on 5&20 and head thru Waterloo, NY - the "birthplace of Memorial Day" and yet another Upstate town that otherwise, has nothing in it.

I think Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is from Waterloo.

That's correct.  WHS football field is named after him.

LD11 likes Cal over Texas A&M tonight.  LD11 doesn't think Texas A&M is on the same level this year as Cal.  They have 1 quality win vs. an inconsistent and vastly overrated Texas team, in a rivalry game.  I predict Cal to win by more than 3.

I like Cal too.  Although Id like to route for Texas a%M Cal should beat them.  Then again, those a-hole bruins kind of made the pac-10 look like the sisters of the poor last night.

I also like Rutgers tonight but dont want to route for them either.

Cal 31 Texas A&M 20
Rutgers 40 Kansas State 28

Cal should smoke the Aggies.  TGP hopes Rutgers beats K-State.

FUCLA has been inconsistent all season.  That Cowan kid is good though.  Given a few more starts, and more consistent overall play, the Broons could be a Top 10-15 team pretty soon.

Confederate General Braxton Bragg graduated from West Point (1837), not Hobart.  Ft. Bragg was named after him.  Home of the 82nd Airborne and birthplace of the infamous JT.

However, Horace Webster another West Point (1818) grad founded both Hobart and the City College of NY.

Oops.  Wrong Bragg.  Rev's mistake.

Webster was a Maths professor at Geneva College in Ohio (now in Pennsylvania) not to be confused with the Geneva College Bishop Hobart founded in 1822 and which was later re-named Hobart after RtRev JHH died.  it's interesting to The Rev that they would name the school Geneva College.  Back when the real Rt. Rev. took over the Geneva Academy and Medical school, there was a big fight.  Geneva was a very presbyterian town.  Bishop hobart was a very high church Anglican...about as Catholic as an Anglican can be.  This caused a lot of trouble in Geneva, and was some inspiration to get rid of the name Geneva college.  Too protestant.

On the other hand, the new Geneva College (where Webster was) was very consciously presbyterian.  This Rev believes this was in reaction against losing their toe-hold in Geneva, NY, but would be hard pressed to prove this.  According to one source The Rev has, Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, took in a lot of the presbyterian runaways after the Anglicizing of Geneva, NY.

Its funny, the great John D. Rockefeller grew up in a small town right next to Ithaca called Richmond before moving to Moravia (another town that could make RTs lists, and is also the home of former US president Millard Fillmore)  All this history talk reminded me of the drives up to Ithaca through Richmond where one of those little blue and yellow signs that are throughout upstate NY saying it was the birthplace of JDR.  But man, there is absoutly nothing in Richmond, nothing.

Wow!  This is bringing The Rev back to the early 1990's when The Rev would drive back to Geneva using different country roads to keep from getting bored.  The Rev just wondered the other night what town Fillmore was from. he forgot it was Moravia.

The Rev did not know JDR was from Richmond.  Interesting.

Quality Finger Lakes trivia. +K for you.

Since some of you fellas are obviously fans of alcoholic beverages, The Rev has to who you something.

http://www.peggyparkerrealestate.com/26_S_Broad_St.htm

This is a pub in The Rev's hometown, Norwich, NY.  It is owned by a friend of The Rev, and The Rev is seriously thinking about buying the building and becoming the proprietor of the pub.

The Rev is starting a business plan.  Does anyone know anything about commercial mortgages?

Rev,   Reg always knew you were the entrepreneur!!!!

While I think there are plenty of other opportunities in a myriad of areas, where better to start than your hometown....with the exception of Norwich......
Seriously, why go back there Rev?  You are always talking about the chicks in PHX...and you want to revert back to the armpit of CNY?  Do you know what lives there?

In other news, Reg made the successful trip up Rte 8 to Utica last weekend for Xmas.  MR and I had about a 2 hr long conversation about what we would resort to before moving into one of the trailers over in the one area with absolutely NOTHING ...and I mean NOTHING around for 15 miles....(which happens to be the next closest thing to Norwich.)  I think that throwing a rock threw a bank window and screaming "FREEZE" while holding a BB gun and going to prison before resorting to living in a trailer off of Rte 8 won the conversation for MR.
Regs not so popular "drink until I throw up" was apparently not against the law.....Reg had to test this stunt the other night just to make sure.  PS- no jail for me..

Knightstalker

Reg, take it from old married KS that you are now on Double Secret Probation.  You may hear nothing of drinking until throwing up for years.  Just when you think all is well in the world MR will bring it up, remember they never forget.

RE: Small World

So TDT is watching a high school hockey game here in MN over the holidays.  The announcer is a Johnnie, Anthony LaPanta, and he mentions that this big defensemen Brutlag sp? is headed to RPI.  TDT immediately thought of the gang at LLPP, Inc.

RE: Potbelly

Has anybody else had a sammich from Potbelly Sandwiches yet or have one of these establishments in the Northeast?  They are redic and put Quizno's to shame.  TDT had the meatball with chili today and it was quite mantastic.  Don't forget this sage advice LLPP...

KS- Completely understood.  I read your post last week and was BOL'ing for 20 mins after reading it.  That was some funny ish!  Man how embarrasing!!

RE: POTBELLY-

Reg actually ate at PotBelly this afternoon.....I ordered a "Wreck" with hot peppers, lettuce and some italian seasoning.....it was very delicious.....comparing it to the "Steakhouse beef dip" (Regs favorite from quiznos) they were both very on par at an 8.5 out of 10.  Quisnoz, is on average, about 50% higher cost than Potbelly....
Reg is standing by TDT with Potbelly on this one....for cost and taste

A few edits-
A "wrench is like ham turkey and roast beef shaved onto a bun and toasted with swiss.
The meatball TDT references above is mantastic....I completely forgot about it bc the potbellys around here is in the most traffic prone mall around and I wound rather eat dawg poo then try to go to this mall and park to get a sandwich for $3.99....but today....it was SOOOO worth it.

The sandwich shop that rates a 9/10 is the bayside bull. If you are in the Annapolis area, please look this place up.....order the "pulled pork BBQ, with slaw and onions, with horseraddish and BBQ sauce on the side"  LD11 knows how we roll.  That place is the shizz

Cal has put the Monkey Stomp to Texas A&M.  They just wore them down then beat them down.

The run of incredibly boring and non-competitive bowl games continues... Only today's Independence bowl game was of any excitement.

PG thinks he is going to stop watching college football until Monday.  A side note, Time Warner is having a disagreement with Sinclair Broadcasting..... If the deal does not get complete by New Year's, People in the Buffalo, and Syracuse (not sure about Rochester...) Viewing areas with Time Warner Cable will stop getting FOX.... thus no NFC Playoffs or BCS bowl games.  Time warner seems to be a grinch!

PG is glad he's in florida and Time Warner Free!

There's something about Norwich, Reg.  It's a special place.  The Rev's family has been entrepreneurs there since Great Grandfather Smith opened an insurance company there in the early 20th century.  Grandpa Smith worked at Bendix-Scintilla during the war and then opened a successful dry cleaning business.  Pete (Dear old Daddy) came back after getting his MBA at Wharton and has been running the stock brokerage firm ever since. The Rev is the Prodigal Son.  The Rev has to go home and make good.  It's like a tractor beam.  A calling.  A viral infection.

Rev's best friend just came back to build a law firm.  Another friend will soon return as a cardiologist.  Another friend is the small business loan officer at the local bank.  it's like its own universe.  (Sometimes good, sometimes bad.)  We see ourselves as the vanguard of the restoration and renaissance of the ingrown hair on the armpit of the universe we call Norwich.  It used to be such a nice town.  Now it's all run down and ****ty (to be frank).  We think we can help restore its fortunes.

Ugh~~ the Rev does know what lives there.  The female situation is truly frightening.  The Rev plans to either a) bring an AZ gal back, or b) go back to Korea for a spell and bring back a little baby-san.  The Rev likes black and tan.  Norwich girls are out.  Luckily The Rev somehow picks up Asian girls like mud on shoes.  now The Rev needs to seal the deal and start producing a small army of half-breeds.

no matter, The Rev is jumping the gun.  Right now he is working on getting a crew together to form a partnership, and next week he will start negotiating a buying price for the pub and building.  Will keep LLPP posted on the progress.
