UNION 82

U 89

U 82 went up for the second half discount, brought Union 82 prototypes, both aged 7.

It looked like ithica had a lot of fans on "their" side of the $10 luxury box seats. However most of their heads/egos delfated at 55-41, making them appear much fewer. Just an observation.

For the decent Ithaca fans- good run this year.
For the jack-ass ithica fans- 3 unanswered.

The hook and ladder was right in front of us.  Fans from both teams were mad at the refs that interference wasn't called one way or the other!
The hook and ladder was the last play and there was not even the slightest hint of PI. The play in question was the previous one, before the two 5 yard procedure penalties, including one on the QB.

tecmobowler

Yeah that's the play I meant as well.  My bad.
Thousands of fans join in the revelry, showing their Bomber pride and support for the football team. Some fans take the rowdiness a little too far, however, by starting fights, damaging property and tipping Port-a-Potties. -Ithacan, November 10th

Frank ~

Union89 will follow up on the previous posts.....FANTASTIC job!!  Regardless of what RadioMike thinks, Union89 loves the enthusiasm and feels that your excitement ands to our enjoyment....we commented here that at times we thought you were going to have a coronary on the air (the interference, non-call & a couple of the scores).  Carmine also earns points for being critical at times (that pass attempt which led to a fumble in the red zone when Marotti went down in the 1st comes to mind).

Who calls the offensive plays??  Is it G-Man??  Coach Reynolds is a total class act, but some of his play calling has alot to be desired.

Spoke with Audino after the game, and it sounded like he takes full responsibilitiy for the Mahon drop back/fumble mistake.  Whether he called it or not, I don't know.  Let's not forget, though, that G-Man and Dino called offensive plays that ended up leading to 104 points on offense the last two weeks.  As they always say, never bite the hand that feeds you :-)

Thanks for the compliments U89...Like I said a bit ago, it was an exhausting game to call...the players looked psyched, but tired after the game.  Hopefully they sleep well with exams winding down for U.

The players were so close, and bumping each other, in addition to the ball being overthrown, it likely should have been PI on both!

res ipsa loquitur

Yeah, you couldn't even call it a hook and ladder.

It was a desperate bat at the ball, trying to tap it to a teammate, knowing he wouldn't catch it.

Now.  The play in question.  There was no doubt there was contact, but the ball landed 12 yards past the receiver.   I would not have been surprised if PI was called.
But it really was uncatchable.  Anybody else at the Boz?
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

If Syracuse can beat Notre Dame they will get honorary LL status for the week. it's a longshot

If Syracuse keeps headed the way they are headed, you can add them to the Liberty League on a permanent basis.  I'd rather not admit to being an Orange fan these days.

Good game Hobart.  That was quite an upstate war today.  Shame we cannot do it during the regular season sometime.  I'll have the game photos and story up late tonight or early tomorrow morning.  Also sent a few pics to Pat for D3 to use, so look for them just incase.

I have conclusive video proof showing that Cortland was not hosed at the Boz...Lemme get my red arrows and still photos together...If I'm lucky, there will be a 6'8" Tight End to use for perspective...

(Note:  This post was an attempt at self-deprication after the 2004 Hobart/Union controversy at the Boz.  Please do not hate me for this post.  Hate me for everything else I do, though.)

PS - Syracuse is already in the E8 - it's called Utica.

Frank is correct. Utica College is a division of SU.
I know a former Saxon Warrior who teaches at Utica College.

If UC plans on getting serious about football, the had better take Shultz and Duley off of their helmets.

Frank - Great job as usual on the broadcast.  Wasn't sure if you'd know but what kind of players are on Union's KO coverage???  Any defensive starters on it or is it mainly defensive backups??  Just was curious.  Only 12 more posts til you can dish out some English playa!!!   ::)

Also, here's the box score from the game.   Pretty interesting stats.  Over 1100yds of offense.

Frank
Thanks again, Dawg.  Generally, there's a hodgepodge on special teams, sometimes changing from week to week.  However, unless the "hands team" is necessary, I believe kickoff return coverage features more second stringers.  The return team features a few more first teams.  Not an easy answer, however.

Frank

Frank - Just to clarify, the Dawg meant the Union kickoff coverage and not kickoff return.  Dawg knows that the players change from week to week on those teams.  Just was curious if you noticed them having any defensive starters in on kickoff after they gave up so many Ithaca return yards and 1 that led to a TD.  They've given up some huge yards and field position on their kickoff coverage alone the past 2 weeks.  1 huge run by RPI last week (could have been tackled early but give credit to the kid for not going down on the initial hit) that resulted in a TD a few plays later and then the opening kickoff that led to an IC TD one play later, followed by an IC return for a TD later in the game.  Cannot have this kind of play on special teams the deeper they go into the playoffs.  Hopefully they'll be able to correct it in practice this week.

In terms of Ithaca's return team, Union players explained to me that the wedge that Ithaca established acted as a swinging gate, moving across the field.  Two problems formed.  First, Union's coverage decided to play around the corners of the wedge.  Second, Union's coverage team committed to one side of the field, while the wedge moved the receiver to the other side.  Union could never figure out how to break the wedge early enough to kill the long returns, leading to the squibb kicks we saw in the fourth quarter.  This is obviously something they will work on during practice this week.

Bobby just returned from  the tail gate and has seen better dayzzzz.

First and foremost - Bobby has to tip his hat to IthAca and its players.  They played one hellofa game.  Bobby was able to talk to many a IthAca supporter and parent and they are a class act.  Regardless of the tomfoolery which goes on PP these days.  The IC players played their hearts out and they deserve recognition.

BobbyBoucher

Second - Bobby tips his hat to the LL today.  3-0 - G@ddam - who would have thunk it!!!!

BobbyBoucher

As for the predictions - Bobby predicted 28-24 - well, If U just double it, Bobby was pretty close.

Several recipes for crow...

All crow, like revenge, is a dish best served cold. While some prefer their crow stewed among spicy vegetables to hide the bitter flavour and reduce the inevitable toughness; I prefer tandori curried crow with a bitter red whine sauce. For those masochists, who desire a sweet crow with a hint of spice, I recommend General Tso's Crow or twice-baked crow with cranberry glaze.

For one who must eat their crow on the go, crow chili with cumin and chipotle packed into a burrito shell is a mobile treat. For those who must eat crow in the Aristolean style, a young crow gyro with baclava adds a touch of elegance to the crow dining experience. Remember: At brunch a light crow is desired, so tenderize your crow and carefully remove the flesh from the fine bones before attempting any recipe.

And my favorite, which I recommend to all my argument opponents is my own invention: "Crow loaf in puff pastry". Mix ground crow with chopped scallions, bread crumbs, and and an egg. Bake for 30 minutes. Wrap in cold puff pastry. Bake again for 15 minutes. Serve with red wine and shallot sauce. Yummmy!

As you can see, I've served a lot of crow over my lifespan and had to occasionally eat it myself.

Bobby has to give credit to the internet for this, but couldn't resist posting it.
