Somebody ain't tellin' the truth here.  I find it very hard to believe that Gary Thorne would completely make this conversation with Mirabelli up out of thin air.  He is widely regarded as the BEST hockey play by play announcer of all time and has been on ESPN's #1 crew for baseball for the past few seasons (haven't seen him this year so he may have had an offer to move on in a permanent capacity with MASN).  Why would he risk his credibility over something like this?  Very fishy...

There is no way Mirabelli thought that the blood wasnt real.  Now he could have said something as a joke, or how Shilling wanted the attention, but there is no way that Mirabelli could think that the blood wasnt real.  So Thorne has to be either lying, mistaken that someone else said it, or just plain didnt get the joke or sarcasm or misunderstood Mirabelli.

I was watching the broadcast when he said it, and it honestly sounded like a joke.  You know when someone calls you out on something and you just continue to be like 'No, it's true.  So and so told me.'  That's how it came off.  But unfortunately, for something so engrained in baseball history, it was a busch league statement.  Especially the way it came out.  'It was all for PR...Mirabelli told me...'

Yea but then Gordon Edes went up to Thorne inbetween the innings and asked him if Mirabelli really said it.  And I would think at that point Thorne would have let him the truth...

Thorne was just on 'EEI's 'Big Show' and claims that Mirabelli did say it, but that he misunderstood what Mirabelli was telling him....kind of strange response.
Either way, Mirabelli is notorious for having a big mouth and not shutting the F up.  Francona had a classic quote in todays Globe.....speaking to reporters, he said he told Mirabelli, "Can't you just shut up and be ready to play every 5th day."

The guy is a douche.  He is in Pat's Hall of Fame if that tells the LLPP, Inc. anything (while most of the BEST posters are not, examples on request).  Completely random statistical bs and we are always supposed to take it as gospel.

Question for the Boston guys: What are the feelings in Boston regarding Schilling's blog 38pitches.com??  Is Shaughnessy grilling him for it?  Personally I enjoy checking in after his starts to get a real MLB perspective on what he is thinking, etc.

No no one is really grilling him about it.  But the same people who think he loves attention use this as ammo saying he just loves to be in the spotlight.  But Im like you, I love to hear what he thinks about different stuff.

How did Frank get into the hall of fame?

The only person I heard grilling him about it was John Smoltz of the Braves.

It is a highly secretive selection process.  No details have ever been disclosed.  They are deliniated by the color of their moniker under the "users online" thing on the front page.

BTW: You guys are really lucky in the Northeast.  People are nuts over baseball up there.  TDT loves the game and follows it ferociously.  Only other place where I think it is comparable in popularity is in the Far East of Japan/Taiwan...

Although TGP is on the left coast, his impression of Schill's blog is this:

Fans of the Sox love it
Dan-o can suck it
