That's a discerning bartender.   I don't know if I consider Makers Mark "Top Shelf"...while it is a step above JD and others....I would think that question would be reserved for Woodford Reserve and others....

No. Weren't you and I drinking mojitos and ML's at Joe's?

True bman, MM is middle of the road stuff. But if you're gonna douse it with corn syrup, use the rail booze, right?

Yea it was a pretty warm day.  I may or may not have been slurping fruity drinks with swords in them...

I once heard a barmaid put in an order for Wild Turkey and Coke.  The bartender just rolled his eyes. ::)

RT-
Go but leave your wallet at home so the posse doesn't think you're the meal ticket. Then be prepared for a night of scraping the label on your empty bottle with your thumbnail while your gals nurse their brandy cokes.

Ewww...  JT's seen those that take a $9 and up brandy/cocnac and mix it with coke.  Saw some dood the other night take Hennessy VSOP and mix it with coke. The snort alone was $14.  Savage!!!
Funny. I was in Key West in March and went up the the outdoor bar at Hogsbreath to buy a round. One of my buddies wanted Maker's Mark, on the rocks, of course. I asked the bartender if they had Maker's Mark and she said, "That depends. What're you going to do to it?" If I'd asked for cola she would've shut me down. Gotta love a good bartender. 8)

Nice.  Now JT will have and defend having a JD and coke.  Sometimes he'll have it neat or on the rocks.  But Makers and those of their ilk is always neat or rocks.  There a good rum from Jamaica called Appleton Estates that doesn't require a mixer either.  Nice and smooth.

Appleton's head/chief taste master has been a woman for the past 20 years. Think there was a thing on the travel channel a while back.

MM is a least a small batch, hence "crafted".  It is a lot smoother then JD and JT thinks it has a smoother finish then Gentleman Jack.

JT does stock some single malts in house and nabs the occassional when out and about.

One the best vacations for JT was the all-inclusive in Mexico with the tequilla bar.  FREE  except for tipping the hot chica bar maids.  JT was throwing down a buck a delivery and drinking like a king.  Unfortunately JT never made into the 100 or so types.  In a week's vacation JT got to the 30's.

Getting totally hammered all week would have been a bad move since the vaca was FMJT treat for JT birthday.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

JD and Coke is still the breakfast of champions.  Good for us "old, married guys" too b/c of the caffiene jolt.

Knightstalker

The true breakfast of champions is Wheaties and Wild Turkey.

JT has actually put beer on cereal.  Hasn't every guy.  Couple of shots and carbs.... a good hangover cure.

Senor RedTackle

So RT is back from a quick jaunt to the racetrack (Saratoga) for 4 races.  Well, RT is proud to report this was a CAREER day. Today was a special 'twilight' day...post time was at 2:45pm instead of the usual 1:05pm. RT came out of the gate strong w/ a $3 trifecta in the 1st that paid $184.00. Once RT was funded for the day, he relaxed and had a couple of Mojitos...especially a no-brainer to drink since RT walked over.  2nd race, RT played a $5 flat bet Win/Place and another $3 trifecta. The place bet paid $13.00 so RT lost a couple of bones but no biggie. 3rd race, RT goes $10 Win/Place on medium odd (6-1) horse he likes and he got caught on the rail and couldn't break so no payout there.

4th race...now this is where RT earns his pay. RT spends about 20 minutes handicapping this race to weed out the muck. There's a couple of chalks (favorites for the novice horsemen) at 2-1 and 5-2 but RT isn't biting. This is a 6  furlong Maiden race for $62,000 ..so it's a crap shoot and RT is looking for value. RT is combing through past performances and recent workouts and one horse jumps out and punches RT in the face. Good speed in 2007 but lost a couple of close races in tough conditions and went through a couple of jockey changes...RT decides to spend some money and puts together a 4 horse trifecta combo. Did a part wheel with 2 horses on top of 3. Bet cost $8 for $1 bet. Trifecta comes in ....RT wins $2400!!!!!!!    After going to IRS window, RT cashes out $1500...RT decides it's time to walk home.

The outing tonight with the 10 hens is looking even more promising!
