without seeing it....realistic would say you need to take it apart and clean it well.  Sounds like grease buildup that is getting hot and catching on fire.

Tags was wondering the same. Also felt that maybe there is a leak in one of the hoses, but cleaning is more than likely the answer no doubt.

Just wanted to know if Tags needs to think about purchasing a new one.

Speaking of grills, Tags has a question for the LLPP. Tags grill was fine all last summer, and into this summer. Now it evidently wants to flame up in front of the burner knobs about 5 minutes into grilling.

Thoughts on how to mitigate this? It's killin' me!

You should check the gas pipe fittings that go into the burners underneath the grill (should be bare piping)  Often times the washer will pop out and the fittings will become loose.  Loose flames means there are loose fittings.

Start by trying one burner at a time to see which one is flaming up.  Then turn it off and see if its tight.  The owners manual should have a list of washers that go on the piping.

Yahtzee! +k JU, that sounds like what's going on. It's not flaming right away, but about 5 minutes into it, which means what you said makes perfect sense.

Tags,
Reg bets that a burner is burnt out on your grill.  That is, it has rusted through.
Take the grill part off, then take the flame distribution shield off.  Look at the burner itself.  If the burner holes are rusted, you can usually purchase burner replacements.

Reg had a 51" Stainless Steel frigidaire grill w/infarred burner....what a piece of crap.  Burners started rusting through in 2 years ($200), igniters went bad in 2.5 years.  Reg just left the thing at his old house because he couldn't see hauling 140lbs. of stainless steel to the curb and jsut throwing it out.

Thanks Reg - sounds like you got a bad deal on that. Should be a nice grill shouldn't it?

Speaking of Grills.  Lowes had some great solid small/portable grills for around $50.  Great for tailgaiting.

$29.99

And if JU had to get a grill right now.  He would go with this $99 Charbroil from Lowes.  But JU lives in an apartment with wooden decks.  Grills are not in the near future for JU.

Tags

Wow, that's not bad at all JU - Perhaps Tags will take the easy way out & get a new cheap grill 8)

realistic

realistic has a small coleman portable grilll that is perfect.  it separates with the stand and folds so it is perfect for tailgating and is perfect size to have on the stone patio next to the apartment.  Only downfall is the small (one LB) propane tanks that don't have a gauge to show how full they are.

tags it definetly sounds just what pbr had and numerous people around pbr have had...spider nest....they are attracted to the smell of propane and build a nest in your line usually the stainless steel part that runs under the grill and makes a 90 degree turn up to the burners... 2 minute fix take it apart and look at the piece pbr bets you see a white nest in there. first time it happened to pbr he is standing there grilling a steak drinking beer all of sudden flames start shooting out all around the controls scared the ish out of pbr.  did a little research and its very common for spiders to make a nest in there get a little stick or coat hanger and rip up the nest or pull it out

if pbr hits the powerball for 200+million tonite pbr is thinking of starting his own d3 college..... the LLPP will be a mandatory course for students to take and everyone here will be guest lecturers!!!

TGP would think PBR would simply donate a nice chunk of change to DVC and open up the PBR School of Biz-nazz?

TGP could teach When the Capital Markets Crap the Bed 101

TDT could teach Swinging off Nutz 222

Reg could teach Home Ec (as in how to hook up a phat Viking grill)

RT could teach Investing 101, OTB 201 and Macking Hoes 369

Rev could teach Religious Studies and (Female) Asian Appreciation

U89 could teach Fine Wine and Cheese

Counselor Franklin Roosevelt Rossi, Esquire could teach Pre-Law 101 (aka Suing your azz into the next decade).

TGP is probably forgetting several other courses (and visiting professors) that could apply here.

Gro texted me and told me that he wants "Alternative lifestyles and how to deal with society 101"

BOL!!!  well played tgp and reg!!! pbr just covered his terminal w/ beer lmao!!!  hey reg where is yazz flute and dib (ick in box) been? they each have a year of eligibility left and trying out for rpi football team again?

Speaking of grilling:

Texas 30 - Baltimore 3.

That's a baseball score, I kid you not.  At what point does a manager get a little peeved about the opponent running up the score?  Better yet, the Orioles led 3-0 until the top of the 4th Inning.  The 6 runs scored in the 9th at 24-3...That's kinda rubbing it in!

Ummmm - And I just noticed, that was Game 1 of a double-header...Any prediction at how many brawls break out in Game 2?

PBR, Did you not think Reg would blow this pic up 500% ?  What's up with the "GeneGalin2002tm" on the bottom right hand corner?!?

Amature hour.

and Reg was literally 2 seconds away from a right click, "save as background"
I can see it now
MR- who's that?
Reg-wasn't me!

Re: Grills

if your grill is flaming too much, obviously you need to adjust the REGULATOR, because that usually flames out of control. (click the pic to see reg's weekend attire).
