Ithaca and Hobart used to play each other yearly. In fact, 2003 was the last time the two teams met during the regular season.
(snip)
It's a shame Hobart and Ithaca stopped playing. It was a nice regional rivalry between two traditionally good programs from difference conferences.

The Rev thinks the Hobart/Ithaca series was on-again-off-again.  In The Rev's four years (1990-1993 seasons) Hobart did not play Ithaca.  TGP, when did we pick up Ithaca again? 1996? 97?

JU and the bombers started mixing it up with the statesmen in 1994.
Rev -

Both JU and you are correct.

The history btw IC and Bart is as follows:

First meeting 1961 then no meetings until 72.  Played in 73 then no meetings until 75.  Series became annual from 75-89 but went on hiatus again in 90.  Series resumed when Bart then played IC from 94-03 but has been on hiatus since.

TGP may be off here and there, but TGP is pretty sure that's right.

BTW - Hobart's head coach from 81-86 was Jack Daniels.

In 91-92 TGP was recruited by Middlebury head coach Mickey Heineken.

Might be a stupid question but do you need a special Cable box for HD Channels or is there a specific upgrade you have to get with the cable company, comcast in my case.

AJ  knows this is the most accurate place to have all questions answered.

AJ, as KS stated you do need a high def cable box.  I have Comcast here in Boston as well.  The tech comes out and installs it in about 5 minutes.

The last couple of days, my high def signal has been miserable!!  Not sure why, but sometimes high def channels freeze and present on the screen with tiny boxes...irritating!!

has the LLPP seen the video of the Oregon duck beating up the houston couger... it's some hilarious stuff...and this also goes back to the rutgers disscussion...how much should the duck be punished

The "couger" should just send the duck a bill.

That's what Reg doesn't get TDT-  How can they basically put up a website that any Joe Schmoe can get on and vote and not expect the results to be biased one way or another?

I mean, come on....coach of the year should be decided by peers.  Look at it like this.  If someone made up a poll of who the best poster on the LLPP was and opened it to anyone on the interweb, what do you think is going to happen? <insert picture of gro sitting in his boxers voting for himself 24/7>

'gro

Here's how this coach of the year shizz works...

Quote9/6 - 11/27 OPEN FAN VOTING
Fans pick the top 25 coaches in Divisions I, IAA, II, and III

11/28 - 12/4 FINALISTS SELECTION
The top 25 from each division are scored using an objective evaluation model endorsed by the College Football Hall of Fame
10 finalists in DI and 5 finalists in each DIAA, DII, and DIII will be named

12/5 - 12/15 FINALISTS VOTING
Fans and Selection Committee members vote for the 2007 Coach of the Year in each Division

12/16 - 12/28 VOTE TALLY
Fan votes are combined with votes from select Hall of Fame members and members of the national media to pick the 2007 Coach of the Year
Fans = 20%, Hall of Fame = 55%, National Media = 25%

so basically your school needs some interweb inclined fans (cough**RPI**cough) to get their coach in the door, then the media and super secret HoF group take over.

p.s. Kinger wins. It's... wait for it... wait for it... science.

RT told him to look out for Jonnie Mac's crazy knowledge of every D3 team's nickname in the country. Seriously dude...you know way too much

Doth Jonnie Mac wax eloquent about how Hobart came to become the Statesmen?  The Rev would like to know.

As per a Hobart College release....

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College athletic teams earned their nickname, the Statesmen, in the early part of the 20th century for taking a lengthy road trip at a time when college teams didn't travel far for contests.

Or, going to Wikipedia...

Hobart's athletic teams became known as the "Statesmen" in 1936, following the football team's season opener against Amherst College. The morning after the game, the New York Times referred to the team as "the statesmen from Geneva," and the name stuck. The nickname for William Smith's athletic teams comes from a contest held in 1982. Several names were submitted, but "Herons" was selected because of the strong and graceful birds that lived near Odell's Pond. These ominous birds frequently flew over the athletic fields as the teams were practicing.

This piece from wikipedia has an exact sentence from yours truly!  Nothing made up either.
