ok reg.  This guy is selling this on ebay for 10K buyitnow/min reserve.  Its an 1988 bayline

What makes this not a good deal?  The age? Says it has a new engine.

How long is a fiberglass going to last on a boat?

Touchdown Tommy

That pile of shizz has white elephant written all over it Jonny.  Salt water or fresh water?  How many engine hours?  Overall hull condition?  Dry dock or slip storage?  Lots of questions...be very careful and by all means take everything you are interested in for a day sea trial

freshwater till 2 years ago. Its in boston so theres a 100% chance its only in the water for 5-7 months a year.  Local guy that will offer a test trial

What sorts of use are you planning on Jonny?  Is the GF driving this buy?  Where will you store it?  Is this your first boat or are you a veteran?  TDT is actually a pretty big proponent of the local Boat partial ownership groups.  Similar to a time share, but for your boat.  They take care of the maintenance, etc.  You show up with your 37 MLs and your swimtrunks ready to cruise.  You don't worry about taking the ridiculous depreciation hit and can get something new whenever you want.  Who cares about "equity" in a boat?  I mean like REG said earlier today, a lot of people end up upside down on these things because they are worth less than they owe when they wanna turn them.  Nothing wrong with a lease in TDT's mind.  You can set the terms to anything you wish...

Im lookin for some river/harbor cruising/fishing in the Boston area for right now.  Im am certainly not a veteran, but Ive driven thousands of hours of boats on lakes and whatnot.  I would definitly need some more training in terms of the ocean (I also work with a bunch of people that are big boston boat guys).  Its so expensive in Boston though even for those owenership groups.  I have no land for storage and would need something inland to store it.  But I dont mind driving to the cape or somewhere else to get it.  I dont want a cheap boat, but I wouldnt mind paying a few grand on a crappy boat to see how it goes.

(I guess a few grand is a cheap boat, but I mean I dont want to buy a boat, then find out I cant use it untill I pay a few more grand into it...)

PBR...

somehow pbr feels the llpp on a boat would end up being like an outing by the minnesota vikings on  boat....

REG: Are you gung-ho on SeaRays?  TDT sees just about every brand/make/model on the market down here.  Anything from backwater 16 fters to 30+ cruisers like yours, to sweet Grady-White center consoles, to mega Yachts meant to cruise the Globe.  TDT is pretty in tune with the market and will be here at your leisure to answer questions.

Does Reg usually buy new?  or Craigslist for a used product?  Man boats are as bad or worse than cars for the instant kick in the shorts (instead of when you take it off the lot, it is when it hits the water in this case).

BTW: WTF...TDT has held Reg's business acumen in high regard til this latest development regarding selling the cruiser.  Reg, are you kidding me?  Is MR influencing this decision heavily?  Come on dood, you gotta sell in the Spring when every water jockey wants the sweetest whip to impress his trophy wife on the Chesapeake!  It is science baby!!!

TDT- Great questions, allow Reg to retort-
No, I'm not gung ho on Sea Rays, I don't even have a SR right now (I own a Monterey).  For some reason, it is however branded in stone that if you are rich and buying your first boat, that it must be a SR.  Forget about the layout, size, power, options....brand is everything.

Reg buys used....he actually bought his last 2 boats on ebay. The first of which he bought for $27k, drove it a year and sold it for $45k.

#3 Reg said he would allow MR to help with the type of boat....furthermore, she gets a 49% vote.....guess who holds the other 51%?  The bottom line is the best deal out there will end up in Regs back yard.

So the selling the boat story-  Reg doesn't have a boat lift at his house and he needs to have his boat pulled for the winter.  He has 2 options- option #1 beg the local marina owner to let Reg keep his boat on his lot which will probably cost about $700, this includes nothing
- Option #2 keep his boat at the local dealer, where $150 a month gets him storage, someone cleaning it once a week, somoeone scraping the snow off it, and a chance to sell it.

WWTDT do?

Oh man JU, there is a saying Reg finds himself using so much lately...."You gotta boat, you gotta problem".....in this case you are looking at a 20 year old headache.....besides the engine, there are 100 other items that willl just nickel and dime you to dealth.  There is a local boat club, which TDT touched on that sells a 5 year agreement for like $30k.  They let you choose from a bunch of different boats and all you do is pay for gas.  Reg would suggest looking on craigslist for someone that has a year or 2 left on their agreement.  That way, you buy them out and find out if it's for you or not.  Belive Reg, between mooring, insurance, maintenance, etc, etc, etc, the $6 grand a year is a steal.

This boat conversation bores me...

Yea, maybe Ill check the boatclubs out.

But I was also wondering about boat financing.  Lets say you buy a 100K brand new boat.  Whats the typical amount of years on the payment schedule and whatnot on a boat like that?

You name it.....15-20 years?  Hence how people get so far upside down.
