Just arrived in greater Bos locale after 5 1/2 hour drive from the game.

Great game... lot's of heart on both teams... a truly great game to watch.  Big plays on both teams.

As I told my son.. when your team starts from deep in their territory, w/ 50 or so seconds on the clock, going into the wind, against a good team who has had your schools number, to win it w/ 12 seconds left ..... well I guess your first LL game is not one you'll ever forget .... or for that matter will the dad.

Careful Frank, make #1000 special...

I'm delayed 2 1/2 hours on a JetBlue flight from ROC to JFK, so I figured what better time for #1000?  Union made me proud today.  Obviously outsized, the Dutchmen held on to the win with a first-time starter QB.  Someone asked if Union was bad or if Rochester was worse... None of the above.  Rochester played two good games before today and is a team to be reckoned with.  Take nothing away from them.  Union just put together a nice game plan that tried to accentuate their strengths.  The defense also proved their pre-season hype by tackling well -- Rochester couldn't get the running game started.

I'll have more about LL weekend #1 tomorrow, but I wanted to salute Union for a great day in post #1000.  It makes this delay a lot easier to stomach.  In the words of a Mad TV character, "Thanks to U!"

frank at what point in time does it make more sense to drive down to NYC instead of waiting for a plane

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

I flew because of the assinine 12 Noon start time - I would have trained to Albany Friday night, slept 4 hours, driven to Rochester for 3 1/2 hours, done the game, driven home to Ballston Spa and trained back to NYC on Sunday afternoon otherwise.  For $50 more, I Pricelined a hotel room at the Doubletree ($62), flew on JetBlue ($150 r/t) and rented a car to use in Rochester ($40 with fuel).  At no point, once I was at ROC airport would it have made sense to drive back to NYC -- I didn't know there was a major delay until 8pm.  I still got to my door by midnight in Midtown Manhattan.  I'd to this trip again, but only on JetBlue since the TVs were priceless during the delay AND they allowed us to de-plane once we learned of the JFK delay imposed by the FAA (we hadn't pulled away from our gate, so we were free to roam).

Let me make one thing clear to all ADs who may read these boards:

There is absolutely no reason to kick a game off at 12 Noon if:

a) your school has sufficient lighting for partial darkness; OR
b) the time hasn't fallen back an hour yet.

Therefore, there's no reason that before November, any game should be starting at Noon.  It's utter disrespect for parents and fans who want to travel to the games from distances that may be a few hours away.  The only reason I believe the NCAA starts the D3 Playoff games at Noon local time is in order to avoid darkness at locations that might not have sufficient lighting; but this doesn't take place until the middle of November.

Saturday is the beginning of many people's weekends, and to rob them of the time to rest and relax at the beginning of Saturday just doesn't make sense.  In addition, it may induce teams to stay overnight unnecessarily in order to avoid having to leave their home area too early to arrive at the game site.  I just don't see the advantage to Noon start times for untelevised games -- even the NFL makes early games at 1pm.

Union has two Noon starts remaining at home -- vs. Hobart and vs. RPI.  I'd like to see both moved out of those slots and placed at 1pm for all parties involved.  Even if Time Warner broadcasts either (or both), I'm not sure how their broadcast scheduled gets affected by a 1pm start time.

A lot of odd start times are in place so that the field can be used for other sports in the same day.

Nice to see Union pull one out...even if it was against Crochester

Doesn't apply to the three Noon starts Union is involved in this season.

Pep prefers the 1 p.m. game start as well; as Merrill Field PA announcer pointed out at yesterday's 12 noon start, "The crowd is a bit sparse here for the start of the game as most Alfred University students sleep in until 11:45 a.m. on weekends." (The noon start also had Pep hustling to muster the trumpets for the game.)

Pep is under the impression that AU-Springfield contests begin at 12 noon to allow for a more reasonable return time for the visitors facing the long six-hour drive, perhaps suggested by the Springfield folks. Pep notes that the AU-Norwich game begins at 1:30 p.m. and the Saxons will be looking at least a 7.5 hour or 8 hour ride home following the game.

Pep can't sleep...his mind is racing with replays of some incredible plays he saw in the Saxons' 37-7 win over Springfield. This group of Saxons is special.

Good write up Rev. +k for including french military strategy and shakespeare in a football post.  Gro understands how much it sucks to travel long distances to see a close loss.  It took 3 tries for gro to see a shoes victory.

That being said, great win for RPI. None of those kids have ever beaten Hobart before. 1-0 in the LL with the mysterious Susquehanna coming up, who are this freaking guys?

Didn't say it did. But there's a little more to scheduling than football, Frank.

frank...no issues here, I was just curious, while growing up in albany...it always has seemed insane that anyone from NYS would fly to NYC and not just drive and then I moved to Rochester for school and almost no one drove and everyone flew...

Guru,  about the new scoreboard, team pages... will each teams schedule have links to the other teams it plays? That feature was good to compare strength of schedule.

Pat Coleman

From the front page:

"Our schedule page has a new look, which will continue to evolve through the weekend. The functions which are missing will be restored. We ask your patience."
