I think it's obvious that definitions of "extreme" differ and you would not have even heard of this story had Mike Gundy not gone all Denny Green.

Maybe blazing should have been used in the story somewhere
On the run from johny law...aint no trip to clevland

Pat

Generally Bman agrees with you, but I did read the inital article, and the rebuttal today.
To quote her today....
"Two days ago, Mike Gundy launched a verbal tirade on yours truly. The Oklahoma State football coach took offense to my Saturday column about Bobby Reid. When Gundy was still talking sense, before he went completely ballistic, he contended that the column was fiction.  "Three-fourths of this is inaccurate," he said.

Then about three minutes later, Gundy stormed out. No questions. No rebuttals.

Monday at Oklahoma State's weekly news conference, I had a chance to ask the question that's been eating at me ever since:
You contended three-fourths of that column was inaccurate; could you tell me what those factual errors were?
"I don't have to," he said.
Our paper has a policy of correcting errors, and I can't do that if I don't know what the errors were.
"I don't have to," Gundy said again. "I'd rather just let it go."
I'd rather let it go, too, but by disputing the facts in my column, Gundy attacked my credibility. "

Later in the rebuttal she states:

"
Again, my answer came from sources and observations.

I stand by those facts.

Gundy has said three-fourths of them are wrong, but I'm waiting to hear the argument against even one."

This is classic coward tactics...several aspects of her reporting were clearly unprofessional (as well as immature and borderline libelous)

...she chooses to defend the only point where she knows that the coach could be wrong....by his statement that the article was not factually correct...

well my questions to Jenni would be these:

How many football injuries have you actually had?  And what documentation from the AMA can you produce to prove that you are an expert on gameday injury severity?

You state :
"The bottom line: The switch is less about Robinson's play and more about Reid's attitude. "   I expect you can substantiate that allegation? Did that come from coach Gundy, since he would make that decision, right?

Is this sentence objective journalism ?  "Or does he want to be coddled, babied, perhaps even fed chicken?"  or did you miss that class when you went to journalism school?

How about this comment:
That scene in the parking lot last week had no bearing on the Cowboys changing quarterbacks, and yet, it said so much about Reid. A 21-year-old letting his mother feed him in public? Most college kids, much less college football players, would just as soon be seen running naked across campus.

If this episode had no bearing, why even reference it?  So you could substantiate your "chicken" comments?

Bottom line here...
A she hid behind the fact that the coach made the bigest point about the article being 3/4 false, and has made a big show about that...but never addressed the fact that she used horrific judgement and taste in the rest of her article...and based most of the article to substantiate her lame opinions...

My comments to Jenny would be:

1.  You are a hack, and will be exposed sooner(no pun intended) than later.
2.  Try eating some chicken sometime (if you can state your opinion so can I)
3.  Try covering something else, that you actually may know something about...
4.  You talk about grit...than show some and apologize for baiting the team, and poor journalism...

bman

sorry about the below post...took me a long time to post prior to topic change...

I many will be very intertested in WPI /Hobart contest.. after watching Hobart in person I think they are well balanced and dangerous with the big O play.  Their QB is elusive and can throw.

Not sure about the D and O lines.. they had some breakdowns on both sides.  # 40 made plenty of plays from LB.

2 injury questions: will the Sr ILB for Hobart play this week and what do you make of the WPI QB coming out in the game with the score 7-0 WPI in the beginning of the 2nd period

in responce to the great pumpkin from the nefc wall...wpi beat up on worcester st in the beginning of the season and worcester looks like a middle of the pack team in the nefc... if wpi doest have thier starting qb go the came will be a cake walk for hobart... their D will give up points as they have to teams with not as much talent as hobart has... it should be a good game

but I think she has the same access he does now....

Perhaps. Or perhaps her boss has a little more control over their employee than Oklahoma State does. :)

Pat

Sorry to beat a dead horse especially with me being a newbie but I have immense respect for you and wish you would do picks again, your insights are why people like me come to this site. Though I can imagine you writing about a players focus or difficulty adjusting to pressure, I just don't believe you would mention mothers or chicken.
I know who's column I would pick up first.

Pat Coleman

Thanks. I wouldn't write it myself, but I would defend someone else's right to write it if it were reliable.

And to the point about injuries, I doubt this writer has ever had one as stated, but that doesn't mean she can't report -- which means talking to people about injuries.

If as writers we are only allowed to write about things we have personally experienced ourselves, then there wouldn't be a lot most could write about.

The Yankees bullpen has just done their best impression of the Red Sox and given up a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 6th Inning to trail 6-5 (culminated by a Grand Slam by Tampa Bay).  With the Red Sox up 4-1 over Oakland after 7, the Yankees need to come back for any reasonable chance to win the AL East (or hope for a Boston meltdown in the 8th and 9th).

(Edit:  The six Tampa Bay runs came on just TWO hits and four walks.  Wow.)

(Edit 2:  That Boston meltdown is underway since Francona has put Gagne in the game for "relief.")
