No excuses....4 point difference appears to be fairly accurate...Union only scoring 3 in the 2nd half means they don't get the win and that's the way it goes...

As far as what ZA witnessed, Ithaca had a much better Offensive line and defensive front....Overall unimpressed with the "beast of the east", but they did what they had to do to win....also unimpressed with my home teams offense in the 2nd half.

Bottom line, the better team won...nothing really controversial about it...Just a great effort by both squads and a clean game all around.....

Union should have run the ball more and stuck to what got them there (balanced attack)...but Rowan did what they had to do....and when you win away from home...you have to give credit to the team that does.

Best wishes to the injured running back from Rowan....Hope he recovers fully!

No one wants to see that happen to anyone.....

RowanTexan, why don't you learn to win with some class. The Union guys beat Ithaca a lot more convincingly than the Profs beat Union today, and they didn't run their mouths like you. If I didn't know the score I coulda swore that Rowan won by 4 TD's today instead of 4 points.

For someone who is a fan of a team referred to as the "Beast of the East," you sure talk like you have a chip on your shoulder.  You probably have small hands, huh? I can't wait until Rowan plays Mt.Union in the semis.

Congrats to Union, Hobart and the LL as a whole. Great season and I'll look forward to the banter and good times next year.

I liked what I saw from Rowan today.  I don't think they can win it all, but I bet they only lose their last game 77-14 this year and not the usual 52-0.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Mr. J. Utah?

Should we mount a milk carton campaign for him?  He has been conspicuously absent from the postings of late.

Congrats again to the LL boys and all the tough teams.  It will be interesting to watch you trounce the MAC deserter Susquehanna in a few years.  They are in for a rude awakening if they think they are going to improve their W-L by changing leagues.

Here's to DVC beating (Rowan/Glassboro State) next week.

lyco, Ive just woken up from a 2 day slumber out from under 145 budlight cans, two bottles of wild turkey, and about 2 jars of cranberry sauce smeared over my stomach.  I would have liked to have seen some games today but I had to work.  Ill be back annoying people before Christmas and Rowans final 77-14 loss don't worry.

In all seriousness, the east is way too watered down for the 10th year in a row, and the other regions teams will probably win by a large amount when they play. Combine Union and Ithacas offense with Cortland and Alfreds defense and you have the best d3 team in the country by far.

Holla;

The interception in the first quarter that led to a score (20 yard drive) was similar to the pics thrown in the RPI game...You had to wonder why he didn't throw it away or run the ball...The last pic of the game he was trying to make something happen and the ball bounced off of one defender straight up into the air.  The pics in between were not pretty and did not need to happen...They definitely were forced balls.

Union had times where they should have been able to go up by two scores but just couldn't get it done and if they went up by two scores, ZA doesn't thing Rowan comes back...A big pic thrown was right after Vito Pellerito intercepted a Rowan pass and he ran it back into Rowan territory....Union threw a pic right after that and that hurt alot.

Defense definitely stepped up...gave up some yardage, but shut Rowan down in many key situations....Scoring only 3 in the second half did us in.  Running the ball got tougher in the 2nd half, but ZA thinks we abandoned it too quickly in lieu of passing more than what was needed.  Tightends were open much of the game, but few throws to them.  To make a long story short...Four of the five pics were pretty ugly...To lose by only four points with that number of turnovers means Union could have won this game and frankly, ZA believed they could have won it by two scores...BUT....it didn't happen...Definitely has been quite an exciting four weeks with Hobart, RPI, Ithaca and Rowan all close games....

Holla, looking a little further, the fact that Union threw the ball 42 times in the snow is not the result of Rowan stuffing the run as much as it was Union giving up on the run!  Just because you only get two yards on first down, doesn't mean you won't get five yards on 2nd down leaving you with third and three or four...Union had too many 3rd and longs today...

Do you really want your QB throwing 42 times in bad weather...It wasn't the blizzard bowl by far, but it still could not be easy to throw accurately in either....

Unions line handled the line of scrimmage pretty darn well throughout the game and only allowed one sack in 42 passes to a team that averaged 5.5 a game.

Just read the story on the Hobart game....All scores in the 4th quarter with Hobart threatening to tie the game at the very end....tough loss for Hobart and Union.

Congrats to both teams...Not sure if there are any leagues that fielded three teams at the top like Union, Hobart and RPI....

Great job LL.

RT has been away for a few days but is just getting back into the swing today.

Sorry to the U and 'Bart...great seasons,  boys...looking forward to another shootout battle for the LL title next year. Should be a good full season of posts!! RT didnt hear any of the webcasts but the scores sound like the games were tight...RT scanned a few post pages and sounded like some turnovers hurt the U.

Notice how guys like the RowanTexasguy show up for the first time on a day like today? Typical....

U89...let's make the boston drinkfest happen soon!!

Well, folks, thanks for listening today and throughout the season to our Union broadcasts.  Felt great having all you guys listening and communicating with us in the Press Box.  Sorry I couldn't give all the shouts in the second half, but it was obvious that we needed to focus on the football as momentum decidedly changed mid-way through the third quarter.

To answer some things I just paged through...The NFL references I made were because there was an NFL officials monitor at the game in the cubicle next to us in the Press Box.  Essentially, this is how the NFL locates potential NFL officials -- through attending "A-Game" crews' games (or at least we were supposed to receive such a crew at Union).  My references to the officials not belonging in the NFL were related to the idea that none of the members of today's crew deserved a promotion from Division III football officiating to NFL officiating.

Marotti's interceptions were half his bad, half tipped balls.  In the first half, he had two interceptions which both were somewhat ugly balls...but Union led 21-14 in spite of them.  The second half INTs were mainly from when Union was behind.  Two of them were the result of tipped balls.

The reason Union couldn't turn to the run was two-fold.  First, Rowan had a 3-5 defense for most of the second half, causing runs up the middle to be ineffective.  Second, Arcidiacono was having trouble beating Rowan to the outside.  He has three runs stopped for losses in the second half because of this problem.  Union was forced to depend on the pass game because of this, but the cold and Rowan's coverage converged to work against Union's offensive abilities in the second half.

However, I'm personally elated over the Union season.  I can name over 200 teams that would love to play Rowan within four points.  As I keep reminding everyone, the seniors had the following last four seasons:  5-5, 5-5, 6-3 and 11-1 (including 1-1 in NCAA Playoffs).  That's a helluva turnaround.  I don't think much more needs to be said...

Congrats to Union and Hobart on great seasons.

Union should be very good next year and Hobart returns almost everyone on offense.  Then there's that other Liberty League team that should be solid next year.

Looking forward to that race already.

You know, for all the crap that is spewed against Rowan (with me being one of the head spewees), I would hazard a quess that nobody in the East Region could have weathered the amount of injuries to key players like the Profs have had and surivived to play another weekend.

Now for all the Rowan haters: with so many key players out for the year, the Profs might very well have just enough to beat an over rated DVC team – which could very well make the following game after every bit as ugly as last season's Linfield mismatch.

Still, as much as I hate to say it, I've got to give Rowan credit for getting to this point. Give them the starters they had back in September and they're the beast. As it stands now, they might even be over-achieving.

...and 'tis the season for a couple Rowanies to post for the first time all season – only to be b-slapped back to hibernation once they have to play their first game out of region.

rowanlb92

Gro,
You weren't impressed with Rowan today.  Well consume all of this!  Today we played on your feild, in conditions that would side for Union, without our all-american QB, all-american D-lineman and without our starting Tailback for most of the game.  If this game were played on a nuetral site with all of our players, the game would be a blowout by the first half.
