Although not to challenge his everlasting allegience to Division III, I wonder if he had the same amount of money as Snyder, he would spend it on D-III  ;).  If he did though, I'd come to work for him  ;D.

This is a funny list that someone emailed me yesterday.............

So JU got a deal with a travel agent for 50% off of Sandals Resorts in Jamaica and the Bahamas in 2008.  Has anyone here ever gone to any of these resorts?  I looked at the booklet and some of the places looked amazing but got some bad reviews online from what Ive seen.

Have any LLPP'ers been to any Sandals in Jamaica or the Bahamas?

Couples spot or family.  If its a family spot than you have to deal with all the ankle biters that parents aren't really watching.

Couples only resorts aren't bad.  JT's advice is to look at tripadvisor.com.  Look for a good average score, but remember that some people that post on there can NEVER be pleased.  What JT and gal do is look at the reviews six weeks to a month before you go.  An average of good reviews before you go is a good sign.  If the trip is far out, look at the 2007 period around the time you expect to go in 2008.

Good comments about staff, amenities, clean rooms, clean pools, clean beaches and other areas are key.   Look for comments from people who do a fair amount of traveling and weigh those comments heavier.

TGP's little sis went to the Sandals Bahamas resort on her honeymoon and thought it was great.  Can't report much on Jamaica, but most folks TGP knows who've been there have given several negative reviews on Marley-ville as a vacation spot.

Yea this would be adults only/couples.  I looked at the Sandals Bahamas Resort and it looks fantastic.  And the Jamaica ones look amazing too (all inclusive and dont have to leave the place)

But then I look online and see all these crazy negative reviews (about 25% of them) while most people that like them dont write long comments.

Reg went to Ocho Rios back in 2005 and had a trip booked for May '08 to the Royal Bohemian (cancelled due to scheduling conflicts)  Regs Bro went to Ocho Rios 2 years ago on his HM and also had a blast.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Jamaica Sandals if you are ready to just chill out for the week.  Normal people, average income, great staff and enough to keep you busy for the week between the resort and some of the activities around the resort (Dunns River Falls, etc.) <insert pic of MR doing group water aerobics at 10am with a Mimosa in her hand>

We wanted to do the Bohemian this year because most couples aren't honeymoon couples and you don't have to explain every 10 minutes that we aren't actually honeymooners and are on vacation. (the cost is 30% more than Jamaica)

One thing, is the 50% discount that they found you off the already 50% discounted rates?  Sandals consistantly has 50% discounts on their all inclusive packages.

Are you looking for something more specific over what I or TGP had to offer you?

Thanks Reg, JT and TGP.

Ocho Rios looked like the best one in the booklet and the one that I wanted.  But then I looked online and it had a lot of bad reviews.  And it just seemed like a 5 star place like this wouldnt be able to have any bad reviews.  I liked the Dunns river one too though and it looked like it had a little more to do there.

And the ocho rios is already 50% but the agent had some fights reserved and also luxury suites available for the cheaper prices (he is a friend of a friend)

But then in the bad reviews I also read that sometimes they don't guarentee you your room?

Regulator

no, they reserve your room.  these places are nowhere near 5star....I hope your not under that impression.  Dunns river is ok, but OR really beats it hands down.  EIther way, you can go visit the other resort and enjoy all the stuff for free. (i recommend you at least go for a day)

PBR...

pbr was lying on one of those off shore docks down at jamaica sunning himself and this dood paddles up looking eerily like bob marley in a kayak and says "yo mon....u need anything? a baggie? women? you come see me over there outside the fence i hook u up..." and quickly scurried away as the resorts people we coming out to chase him quite funny....

Knightstalker

KS went to Sandals Jamaica about 20 years ago with three other couples.  One couple was eloping.  We were approaced by rasta dudes in the airport heading for the baggage claim asking if we needed any ganga.  With what you could get for 50.00 the group could not finish in a week.  Was a great vacation, plenty to do without leaving the resort.  We did take a couple of trips off the resort.   One was a cruise to a really nice seculed beach and the other was to some waterfalls inland.  Nothing like Red Stripe and eggs for breakfast.

TGP would agree with this completely.  TGP's impression is that Sandals resorts are 3-3.5 star tops.

If you want 5 star the only place in the Caribbean is probably the 4 Seasons in Nevis.

Pep settles for nothing less than 5-Star for Spring Break. Pep is looking forward to Habitat Trip #6 March 8-16, 2008 when Pep boards a 33-passenger bus packed to the hilt with college students...after 12 hours on the road, the group will spend a night in Charlotte, NC in a church "youth house" after a dinner of homemade lasagna and the works. Then rising early for another 10 hours on the road (the five movies we watch actually make the time fly) to Daytona Beach where Pep gets his annual Grilled Shrimp on a Skewer Dinner at Shells before going to settle in at the secluded DeLand lakefront 5-Star Resort we call Duvall Campground...where the showers are guaranteed hot at 5 a.m.

Each weekday starts with Pep awaking the angels at 6:15 a.m. with an appropriate wake-up song, then a 7 a.m. buffet breakfast precedes the day's activities that involve driving nails and eating snacks. Evenings, following a top notch dinner at heretofore unknown exquisite eating establishments, are a plethora of activities including a heated outdoor pool party, mini-golf tournament, open gym, bowling, rollerskating, open mic coffeehouse and Friday afternoon at the beach followed by a fabulous food fest. Then it's back in the bus on Saturday morning for another 12-hour excursion that includes a stop in Cornelius, NC for a pizza and wing party at Big Al's Pub and Grubberia. The stop in Wytheville, NC includes an evening awards presentation.

The bus pulls back into wintry western New York on a Sunday night with 30 exhausted college students who are inebriated with the satisfaction of having built a house for a needy family in 4.5 days and, hopefully, had the time of their lives in doing so.
