Ive stayed at Atlantis in Nassau and I know that the Sandles arent going to be like that. (all inclusive anyway) but they at least looked real clean in the pictures.

Every negative review that there was seemed to be about not being able to check in on time and then having to move rooms.  But like JT said, (and more people are telling me) there are a lot of people that just aren't ever going to be satisified.

RT will cover resort travel as topic on this week's episode of ThinkTankRadio at 6pm EST on Wed.

In the meantime, please enjoy the smokeshow of the day

Jen from Suffolk (bottom of pg 1) is a favorite of mine although today's winner is hard to beat....

JU, my only word of advice about reading those reviews is that people who have a bad time are more prone to leave negative feedback than people who have a great time are to leave positive feedback.  I wouldn't worry about it all that much.  Read what is good about it, be slightly weary of the negative stuff, and if the good things are what you are looking for, and the price is right, go for it.  Who can't have a good time in Jamaica?

Here is TGP's lil sis' review of Sandals:

We stayed at the st lucia sandals

Sandals is great in regards to the pool, beach, activities, food and the all inclusive thing.

The room/bathroom/balcony was pretty standard though if they are used to four seasons rooms and the like...and we had an upgraded concierge room and even that was kinda standard.

What this tells TGP is that the people who complained about Sandals were expecting a 4+ star experience when in reality the Sandals deal is probably more of a 3 star set up.  If you manage expectations accordingly, sounds like you can have a nice vacation.

Reg, (or if anyone else has stayed at ocho rios).....

Did you stay in the main complex, or in one of the 75-100 small houses near the back of the property?  Those ones look nice (private pools or shared by 2-4 rooms?)

Then there were the couple suites in the way back as well that had private pools and whirlpools right inside/outside the room/cabana.  Those looked frickin nice.

JT

At all incl places JT rates these most important:

1) Clean with working A/C, fridge, etc.  Broken ish must be resolved quickly.
2) Nice beaches... pools... where they limit or try to limit natives hawking their wares on the beach
3) Responsive staff (JT tips... and generally gets at least good service)
4) Friendly bar staff
5) Food is at least decent
6) Amenities

I stayed at the st. Anne villas where they split a private pool between 4 suites.  This is definately the way to go as the main complex is mainly where they keep the "ballin' on a budget" rooms.

I would actually recommend staying on the plantation side, since they have these limo golf carts that they buzz you around everywhere you want to go. (you make the call from your "concierge room" and in like 35 seconds, there is a dude that flies in at like 45 MPH to pick you up and your like, "thanks for coming so quick, mon"..."no problem mon"

The whole resort is protected by dudes walking around with AK47's.

At all incl places JT rates these most important:

1) Clean with working A/C, fridge, etc.  Broken ish must be resolved quickly.- The concierge rooms all come stocked with beer, liquor, champagne and have a fridge.  (which is a huge bonus, since it would be a pain to have to take a golf cart down to the pool at 8am wearing only boxers in order to get a red stripe.

2) Nice beaches... pools... where they limit or try to limit natives hawking their wares on the beach- You actually won't see a native on the enitre resort (except the one spot PBR described) except for the waitresses, bartenders and aerobic instructors.  I think they shoot any other native that wonders onto the resort with the weapon of choice listed above.

3) Responsive staff (JT tips... and generally gets at least good service)- No tips needed, in fact, they really don't care if you tip or not, they are very quick and don't like to see you without some appleton rum in your hands

4) Friendly bar staff- The guys at all the resorts are great.  If you saw the other jobs that they would have in the area, they better be.

5) Food is at least decent- Good food, not a 10, but at least an 8 depending on where you eat. (since it's all inclusive, they have no problem bringing you a second meal if you ask

6) Amenities- there are a few pay activities you can do around the resort, but if you are only taking 5 days to soak it up (which is about the amount of days you spend there) then you should only have to take the Dunns River falls trip and the Dunns river resort day trip (which is free and only like 15 mins away)  and you are set.

Hope this helps

If you do make it to Jamaica, remember to bring back as much overproof rum as they will let you.

Loads of help thanks.  +K

JT

JT gets about $150 in singles and other small bills so he can tip and pay without taking too much other currency back as change.  Works well in Mexico, DR... etc.  Hey its only a buck.  Then its Mr. Utah is there anything you need.

Also bring a couple of those big coffee mugs (with top for driving) with you.  If you want the umbrella drinks, this gives you a big glass instead of those little cups the have at the bar.  Your own 20oz mugs beats the little plastic glasses or disposable cups.  You can even drink beer 20oz or more at a time.

Check out this little girl rock out on the synthesizer.  Carry on Wayward Son never sounded so good.  How many bands would hire this kid tomorrow if they could?

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.
