Wow, does the BCS seem to be problematic this year...Once you get past the top game, things go downhill fast...

Teams with automatic bids:

1) #1 USC (Pac-10 Champ)
2) #2 Texas (Big XII Champ)
3) #3 Penn State (Big Ten Champ)
4) #11 West Virginia (Big East Champ)
5) #13 Georgia (SEC Champ - Likely to rise a spot with UCLA's loss)
6) Unranked Florida State (ACC Champ - Assuming Va. Tech's comeback runs short)
7) #8 Notre Dame (By old rule, if Notre Dame finished #6 or better, they automatically get picked, and tonight's losses will make Notre Dame likely #6)
8) #6 Ohio State (Again, by rule, if the highest at-large team is #3 or #4, that team automatically gets a BCS at-large slot...OSU should rise to #4 with the losses)

So, we have Numbers 1, 2, 3, 6 (likely 4), 8 (likely 6) 11, 13 (likely 12) and Unranked in BCS Bowls...The teams combine for TWELVE losses, while it was feasible to have as few as eight losses in the pairings if best records were considered instead.  The cream rose to the top, but the rest of Div. I-A college football has me scratching my head tonight...

The Bowl Championship Series really sucks. It's designed to make the rich schools richer and leave the others in the dust...
All of the BCS supporters are finally breathing a sigh of relief because the system worked for the first time since they started it. They got lucky. I was pushing hard for UCLA, but yikes, did they get DESTROYED. Ditto for Colorado, who gave up 28 points in about 7 minutes in their "home" game in Houston -- HOUSTON! -- against the Longhorns.

It's ridiculous, and it's what I love about Division 1-AA, Division II and especially Division III -- all the other divisions use a (gasp!) playoff, and in most cases, the cream rises to the top because the best teams GET IT DONE.[/size]

God forbid (for lack of a better cliche, apologies for offending anyone on the use of the word God) that these monster state schools like USC, Texas, or Florida State get another 14 million into the big wigs pockets, because they don't already have enough money. Jeez. It's sickening.

Would like any honest comments on my editorial, please.

I'd like to know where you collect those "numbers" with which you refer to Rowan's graduation rate – if nothing else for use for fodder for the next time they play TCNJ or when I meet up for a semi-formal posting joust with RowanTexan or RUFan (who admittedly do nothing to enhance their alma mater's reputations).

However, if you are making a blanket statement using pure conjecture based on common knowledge of a program that existed a decade ago, well shame on you. I would also expect by now that we're above characterizing an entire institution based on three or four posters – no matter how half-assed their posts.

...and hurrah for any head coach who makes the "academics" first stand – which should include 99.9% of DIII – however, don't remind this TCNJ grad of Coach Audino and his "philosophies" after he made up a newspaper article and attributed it to the Lion team in order to motivate his own troops.

...and drop the quotes you feel you need to put around "state school". It makes it read as if you're sullying your digits just to type it ... unless you really feel you're above many of us.

Phil,
I did some research on the 2004 graduation rates for some schools, and here's what I found.

Rowan graduation rate:
http://www.ncaa.org/grad_rates/2004/d2_d3/d2_d3_schools/RPT00259.html

It says 60 percent graduation rate for 6,823 students enrolled in the 2002-03 year.

To compare:

Cortland State -- 50 percent for 5,440
Ithaca -- 73 percent for 6,065
Utica -- 60 percent for 2,986 students
Union -- 83 percent for 2,102

http://www.ncaa.org/grad_rates/2004/d2_d3/

So Phil, there is some unbiased proof. Please comment.

RowanTexan

Why all the postings on grad rates, academics, etc?

It's the individual who makes **** happen once they are out in the real world!

Maybe the LL has better OVERALL academics, so what?

Please talk about Football or aboutpicking up women (since RowanTexan is married) that is some good, funny stuff!

Hmmm, those statistics refer to the entire college population – not athletes or more specifically – Rowan's football athletes. And if I'm not mistaken there are quite a few students who attend public colleges for a year or two before transferring to a private school. Either way, I find it hard to condemn an institution based on these statistics.

Some others:
Whitewater - 52%
Mount Union - 65%
Linfield - 68%
Delaware Valley - 48%
Mary Hardin Baylor - 41%
Bridgewater - 59%
Wesley - 56%
St. John Fisher - 65%

So your point would be...?

Umm not to get into a grad rate debate but that 60% rate is from 1997-98 with 02-03 graduations.  It is probably higher now.

Oh Phil.  Please, follow the lead you've set all season and stay over on your Dirty Jersey Board.  Go back there, accept the fact that you're from the scummiest(great word?) state in the country.  Talk about how old you are, and how your balls sag, and your golf handicap and all that other horse****.  Just take off.  Same for you RowanMeethead and LB.  If you're just gonna be here to stir up ****, take a hike.  Go **** on yourself and run around the streets in the Rowan parade.

We're busy talking a little football, but mostly about chicks, bodily functions, gambling addicitons, and the LL PP All-Star team, and you clowns come in here stirring the pot.  Don't be mad because your house smells like **** everytime you open the window.  Just accept it.

Now GB15, to follow up on my bets for the night:

I parlayed all of them so I did won anyway.

Tulsa and Over - Nice win
Army and Under - Bad bet
LSU - You got me there
Louisville and Over - Goddamn refs screwed me on this one.
FSU and the Over - Tech's last minute TD put it over

F-YOU Pay Me.

The 2 I warned everyone on, USC and Texas, everyone wanted to bet and got smoked.

My bet of the day today...Cleveland

Gee Lewdogg, I certainly don't want to get into a bile fight with the king. All I was asking for was an explanation of statistics from the gentleman who was leveling the charge. Don't go all American Chopper on my arse.

I'll leave you to have a mutual admiration-fest with Rowan Texan and to ponder why your "dirty Jersey" comments after all these years are so "Yakov Smirnoff".

Karma to you for your assessment of "**** Ass Jersey"....that's truely what we called it during Union89's days back at school.
Someone brought up Andy Katz from ESPN earlier....U89 is embarassed to admit that Katz is a Union grad....U89 can't watch that dood.

Cleveland, huh??  The research engine is just firing up now...Union89 had a nice Saturday also...

ESPN Pregame is 10x better without the PLAYMAKER Michael Irvin

JT

Gro,

Everyone knows that wasn't Irvin's pipe  :o

U89,

Cleveland.  In the snow.  Charlie Frye starting.  David Garrard starting for JAX.  It's a slam dunk.  Right up there with Chicago, Minnesota, and Houston...

Write that down.

Tecmobowler's Bodog.com winning Picks for the 1 o clock games.

Carolina -3 over Atlanta.  Carolina hasn't given up more than two touchdowns in five weeks.  Carolina has struggled against Vick in the past, but these are two teams going in different directions.  Take the Panthers with the sweet line at home!

Green Bay +6.5 vs. Bears-  Love the Bears this year, but they shouldn't be giving those kind of points with their offense.  Green Bay will get up for this game, one of the few games of interest left on their schedule.  Late money flooding in on the pack.

Buffalo/Miami under 35.  Two putrid offensive teams with the two best punters in the league.  Field position battle.

I think Cleveland/.Jax is a no play with two unknown QB's at the helm.
