So you have seen all of Kmic's games?  Were you at W&J his only JV game?  Father and I were.  After watching the first series, my 85 year old father said " I got to live four more years."  Father will be at the game Sat.  He did not go last week, but listened to you and Ric on the radio, that made him deside to come to the game this week.

Because the broadcast was good (and got him excited to go), or the broadcast was bad (I'm not going through this again)????

Theaprof,

Any chance you could trade with the guy from Marietta that stole my 2005 Mount championship sweatshirt out of the pressbox while we were on the air? >:(

What the 8 other ones dirty?
Funny.
+k for that.

Going back to the question about defenses against MUC, though they didn't really blitz, Ohio Northern consistently stacked 8 tight in the box to stop Kmic and they tackled very well.  They succeeded in stoppping Kmic (89 yards and 1 TD on 25 carries), however Greg Micheli lit them up going 23 of 25 passing for 323 yards, 3 touchdowns, and added another 50 yards on six rushes.

One big difference between ONU and Hobart this week is the weather.  The Nothern game was in September on a perfect day.  The weather forecast for this Saturday is upper 30's with a chance of rain/snow mix.   At this time of year, I think the best approach would be to sellout against the run and take your chances with the passing game not being consistent enough to beat you in questionable weather conditions.

The biggest key in stopping Kmic isn't the scheme or number of guys tight to the line of scrimmage or your blitz packages.  It's tackling.  He gets a ton of yards after contact.  He isn't big (5'-9" 193 lbs) and doesn't have great speed, but what he does have is incredible vision, balance and a relentless attacking attitude with the ball.  He delivers as many hits to the secondaries as he takes.  I wish I knew how to cut video clips from my TiVo and post them to You Tube, because I have a half dozen or so recordings of him this season where he turned back into the field instead of going out of bounds to blast a safety coming across the field.  It's rather hilarious to see in slow motion.  The best hit was against John Carroll where he drilled the free safety right in front of the JCU bench, knocked him backwards 3-4 yards, and then stepped on the kid as he ran him over.  It was a thing of beauty.

If you want to stop Kmic from getting 100+ yards the first guy has to make the tackle.   To stop him from getting 200+ then the secondary needs to tackle well. That's what separated teams that handled Kmic (Whitewater, Ohio Northern, Capital in previous years) from those that couldn't.  This season's offensive line is average, but Kmic does so much braking of tackles in the open field that his production hasn't dropped off even though the entire O-line graduated from last season.

Whitewater controlled Nate with very disruptive front four and the best collective group of LB's I've ever seen.  Ohio Northern did it by flooding the line of scrimmage and tackling Kmic before he could really get going, and when he did get loose, the secondary pursued very well.  And the good Capital defenses held Kmic in check because of great safeties that flew to the ball and never missed a tackle in space.  He had a ton of 5-8 yard runs against Capital that normally would have been 20+ yards due to the Hausler brothers at strong and free safety.

I know it sounds overly simplistic, but I've seen every game the kid has played and watched a ton of film on him too, and the difference between his average games (100-125 yds) and the great ones (200+) isn't the scheme played against Mount, it's how well you tackle him in open space.

This is why I read these boards, for insight like that.  Thanks, hscoach.

The best of luck to Hobart... you will need it as will the winner of Cortland vs Curry

SJF Fan

For those Hobarters that are making the trip -

Most of the fans at MUC are pretty nice people, quality tailgaters.  The seats at the field are assigned and they will get bent out of shape if you don't sit where your ticket tells you to.

The fans are quiet most of the game - almost bored.

Once the game becomes decided, you'll have a few morons wearing a shirt that says welcome to the machine and they act tough for about 48 seconds.
-----------
MUC can be beat - they handled SJF in week 1 - biggest weakness was speed.  If the D for Bart can hit the lanes quicker, it will disrupt MUC's O.

-------
Hobart has been a good program almost this entire decade - very consistent - this weekend it's time to be a great program on behalf of the rest of the East and punch these guys in the mouth.

Good luck.

I think SJF fan made a decent post here on the LLPP. Alright SJF fan I too would love to see Bart go out and give MUC something to handle. I would especially love them to give MUC too much to handle. Whether that happens or not we shall see but I for one, being a die hard LL person, am hoping for the best and behind Bart 150%.

Let's Go Bart! Pumkin Heads Good Luck in Alliance!

Hobart game notes out:
http://www.hwsathletics.com/documents/2008/11/26/MUC.pdf

I'm just happy to get a game with them.  I actually voted for another team having the longest trip home on the home page because my interpretation of that is who should be thinking win and be tragically disappointed.  As much as I'm holding out hope for the miracle in Alliance to happen, there's probably another matchup where a team will be more disappointed with the result, no matter the outcome.

BTW, for all the LL boys, did the Lyco virtual monkeystomp (throwing up a 33 yard pass with the first team O vs. backup D with 5.7 seconds left to avoid it, to me makes it a virtual one) make you feel better about the season and league?  I think, given Ithaca's flame-out that we represented the LL well.  Hard to make the case for the NJAC with Rowan sitting out and Kean and MSU dropping ECAC matchups while Cortland has back to back NEFC games.

Just how excited did you expect the fans to get for a game that was decided before the two teams even took the field?  You have got to be the most bitter loser I've ever come across.
