There is a reason why the Celtics are not favored to win the NBA championhip this year.

Lebron has been around for a few years now including the year that the Celtics were favored to win it.

Cleveland is the 1 seed.  Obviously they should be favored...However, do NOT count out the Celts.  The bench is pitching in well.  I think they can give Cleveland a run for their money.  I'm chalking game 1 vs. Orlando to a mental letdown from a rough 7 game series.  Orlando doesn't worry me much.  They are big and physical, but they are a mess around the hoop.

true, but this is this year and LeBron's team has pretty much carried the East all season even when KG was on the floor for the Celts.

Disclosure:  I am a Celts fan since 33, 32, 44, 3 and 00....so I am not discrediting them at all, just observing what I see.

The Celtics have beaten the Cavs without Garnett and have split the season series (without Garnett in two of those games).  My point is that they wouldnt be favored without Garnett even if the Cavs werent in the playoffs and its no suprise that they are losing to teams at home that they should beat with Garnett.

Enough of this basketball talk, how gutted or elated was everyone over 10 man Barca's away goal in the 3rd minute of extra time at Stamford Bridge yesterday?

Rev I think Hockey is the #2 most expensive sport and any sport with scholarships would be the most expensive.  And d1 lax for Hobart would be expensive because of the travel.  A d3 lax program for upstate teams should cost as much as any other sport or even less because of the abundance of lax teams right?

But Boston College dropped their d1 lax program for title 9 reasons and some other programs did the same.  The marxists won there!

And the lack of scholarships is the #1 reason that Hobart is not top 5 in the country in my opinion.

I think as long as Hobart still plays Syracuse, Cornell and Umass, they dont have to worry about the conference.

Good point about hockey.  Rev totally spaced it.  The Rev also agrees that lack of athletic scholarships is the primary cause of Hobart being unable to break into the top slots.  Thank goodness for our historic rivalries with 'Cuse and Cornell.

Re: Lax & Marxists.  Another reason lax is unpopular with many college profs is that it is seen as a "rich white kids sport."  Therefore an easy one to slash out of a budget.

And as TGP, PBR and others have pointed out (As good or bad as it is) lax has caught on fire across the country and this might mean the fall of traditional powers such as Hobart.  Back in the 1980s and 1990's, the Syracuse or Long Island area public school kid might have started playing lax in 4th grade and they would stay close to NY and go to a Cuse or Hobart.  The same would go for the NE prep school kid that started in 7th grade.

Today, kids all over the country in Texas, CA, Fla and the midwest start playing in these young instructional leagues.  They are less likely to attend and load up Hobart like what happened pre 1999.

So instead of Hobart, Cuse and Cornell loading up on these kids from close to home, you might see the rise of other programs like Ohio State, and southern schools.

And of course if these schools can make money off them (I wonder if even the top d1 schools make money), you can bet more d1 schools will add lax (and of course add womens lax)

Looks like Jimmy Buffet is getting the naming rights to Dolphins Stadium, or should KS say "Landshark Stadium."

I hope the first game includes Chevy Chase in a foam shark outfit.
