How does someone who kills someone only have to spend a month in jail but Vick had to spend YEARS in jail for his offenses?  Our society is messed up...

Don't f*ck with the Feds.  Vick thought he could lie his way out, like it was no big deal.  He should have thought of who his associates were (posse). They dropped dime in a second.  Feds don't like being messed with.

Had he come clean right away with the law and the Falcons (showing true remorse), he'd have kept most of his wealth and might have got at most 90 days (probably probation). And would be playing.

30 days for killing someone is also screwed up, but it was local, not federal. For many, cruelty to animals has more importance that a human life.

snort - 1 quick update.

have confirmed that Sean Regan of Canadaigua Academy is going to Hobart in the fall to play football (6' 195 RB/LB) and lacrosse.

CA just won NYS title last Saturday.

Hopefully this kid will be another Justin Hager for Hobart.

Anyone see Joe Buck get owned by Artie Lange on HBO.  Watch before HBO deletes it.  Cursing NSFW.  Word is Joe Buck came into the greenroom trying to be cute and telling Artie ( a professional comedian ) not to suck.  Like waving a red cape in front of a bull.  Well Artie kicked his Costas wannabe azz.

JT is spot on about the Feds.  Sentencing Guidelines give them little leeway after someone gets indictied like Vick did.

The other major difference between these two crimes is the intent.  Courts look at drunk driving (1st offense ones) differently than they would intentional crimes (hurting animals or robberies).

KS heard a guy on ESPN radio this morning talking about this.  Stallworth cooperated from the beginning, did not drive away and accepted guilt all along.  The big difference is he could afford to pay lawyers to work for him full time to handle this.  It was also said that the prosecuter and judge showed leniency because of his acceptance of guilt and his his attitude.

They also discussed Vick and the federal judge was ready to work a very lenient deal but like JT posted Vick screwed up and lied to the prosecuter and judge so they threw the book at him.

Does anyone know the penalty for DUI vehicular manslaughter in FL?

I think this was my biggest problem with this whole situation!  If it were you or I who had done this you could say bye bye for 10+.

I also agree that the family basically just saying it's OK because they were getting money is also dispicable.  But are they not going to accept the money?

To accept $$ in exchange for a loved one's life instead of justice (trial).....ya, I'd say that's disgusting.

Money talks

Knowing this... SF would go into deep debt to fund a legal team, if it were ever needed.

SF doesn't make dumb decisions anymore (that was a 20's thing), so it won't be necessary...

Regulator

Come on U89-
It's disgusting that they settled, however, in the end what other alternatives did this family have?  If they filed a civil suit after the fact, they would have gotten the same amount and then had their lawyers take 70% away in fees.

Either way, they wouldn't have given the DS any additional jail time.
