On the previous page, there was some mention of money and banking.  The Rev uses the Korean Won as his gauge on the strength of the USD in Asia.  Why the ROK (other than the fact that I live here)?  Because its economy is more developed than China's and more agile than Japan's.

When The Rev was in the ROK in 1995, the exchange rate was 750KRW = 1 USD.  We were rolling in dough.  Trouble was, the Won was artificially pegged to the dollar.  In December of 1997, the IMF cut the connection and the KRW dropped to 1700 KRW = 1 USD.  Over the past decade, the KRW recovered and even got back to about 950KRW = 1 USD.

Just as The Rev arrived, the KRW was dropping to about 1300KRW = 1 USD.  Rev not happy, but had banked on the KRW going as low as 1600 again, just in case.

Today the KRW was 1240 = 1USD.  A slow climb from March 2009, but a climb nonetheless.

The Rev is of the opinion that the Koreans have been keeping the Won artificially deflated against the USD in order to make sure more of us buy Hyundais, Kias, Samsung and LG appliances.  They are getting unloading as much inventory as possible before they start to unload US Treasuries.

The Rev is not claiming a massive pulling-the-rug-out-from-under the US (Korea doesn't have that kind of economic clout, nor would it be in its best interest) but if other Asian nations catch a whiff of what they are up to, and start to do the same, it could lead to a "run on the bank" effect, which would hurt everyone.

The Rev is with Jim Rogers and Peter Schiff all the way regarding the economic outlook these days.

I've had some 'sniper' knock me a point a day every day for four months (net, down 80+ total).  He's smart enough to never do it when I'm on-line, so I haven't identified the culprit (yet!).

Damned coward! >:(

+K to Mr. Ypsi to counter the Sniper's work.

The Rev hates sniping.

JT

JT just saw a show that is killer.  Called Cake Boss on TLC.  Guy runs a pastry shop in Hoboken.  And he makes cakes... those $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 specialty cakes like that Ace of Cakes dude in Baltimore.

Cake Boss is funny just for all the NJ stereotypes you see on the show.  The guy and his staff are really good at what they do.. but the process of getting there is funny.

JT's has been to the pastry shop before the fame.  The Italian pastries are some of the best he's ever had.

Mrs. Tiger74 and I try to watch Cake Boss every week; it is more of a must-see tv than anything NBC ever put on Thursdays. As for the NJ stereotypes, try to catch the episode where they made a special order cake for the head honcho at the local "social club". Absolutely great!

Some of those guys in the social club were definitely mobbed up.  JT recognized his old bookie in the episode.

The Daily Dose of Karma has been given.  Hey sniper...Nobody likes you...loser.

Has anyone else noticed the funny kick-off times for this season (such as Hobart-Union game at 2 PM vs a 1 PM KO)?  For at least the last 10 yrs Bart's games have typically started at 1 PM EST.  This season we have 12 PM and 2 PM games.

TGP assumes this is due to cost cutting (i.e., Bart won't stay at a ho-tel in Shocktown on Friday night but drive out earlier in the AM delaying kick-off by 1 hr) per the thread on the main page.

Thoughts?

classic! sounds like a teenager today from the "i'm entitled and doing nothing generation ...." pbr cant believe what this world is coming to and how lazy some people are getting...get off your azz girl and get to work your 27 freakin' years old you should know better than to look for a free hand out!!! your an adult and college graduate find a job yourself and dont always rely on everyone else!

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A 27-year-old Monroe College graduate is suing the
New York school, contending it has done little to help her find a job.
Trina Thompson, who graduated in April with a bachelor's degree, alleges in a
Bronx Supreme Court lawsuit that she did not receive adequate employment leads
and advice from the school's office of career advancement, the New York Post
reported Sunday.
"They have not tried hard enough to help me," the information technology degree
graduate alleges in the July 24 suit.
Thompson's mother, Carol, agreed  Monroe College officials simply did not equip
her daughter for gainful employment following her graduation.
"She's angry," Thompson's mother told the Post. "She's very angry at her
situation. She put all her faith in them, and so did I. They're not making an
effort."
Monroe spokesman Gary Axelbank labeled the lawsuit, which is seeking the
$70,000 worth of tuition Thompson paid the school, was without merit.
