Gro thinks that problem at Michigan exists at many DI schools... many "voluntary workouts" and whatnot.

absolutely there are 'voluntary' ones however not many have the 12 hour workout on sundays attended by the coaching staff....especially when the s&c coach is the organizing and running them....hmmmmm does anyone remember when 'richard rod' left wvu the only records shredded as he left where the ones kept by their s&c coach? covering something up there as well 'rich'? well michi has sold their soul to the devil and now has to live w/ it...

Just as long as he loses 8 games again in 2009, I hate that guy.

note to self: next time boating remember beer/potato chips/crackers...every woman should be required to read this to realize men arent stupid... its science beer/chips should be mandatory....

BLESSING, Texas,  Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Three fishermen say country-boy survival
skills got them through eight days atop a capsized boat off the coast of Texas.
The three were rescued late Saturday by a passing pleasure boat nearly 180
miles southwest of Matagorda, Texas.
"It's nothing short of a miracle of God," said James Phillips, 30, owner of
Born Again Repair, a boat sales and repair facility in Blessing, Texas, the
Houston Chronicle reported.
Phillips and two friends, Curt Hall, 28, and Tressell Hawkins, 42, left
Matagorda Aug. 21 aboard Phillips' 23-foot catamaran. About 80 miles offshore,
the boat took on water and rolled, cutting all radio contact.
"Then us country boys went into survival mode," Phillips told the Chronicle in
an interview Sunday.
The men dove under the boat to recover a case of beer, crackers and potato
chips. A hose connected to a tank gave them fresh water, though it tasted like
gasoline, and a tarp shielded them from the sun. Sharks circled the boat as the
men hallucinated about people bringing food and water.
Phillips said he never will sail again without carrying an electronic
positioning radio beacon, which could have pointed rescuers to his location.

Good point re chips and beer, but you'd think after those NFL/USF players died in similar circumstances (making national headlines, no less) more of these offshore boating/fishing guys would pony up and buy a GPS beacon for their boats?

He's playing with "Noah Sugarman".... he's on the drums.... Chris Mueller is his name.  Starts at 10pm.

Haven't seen them play yet... they've been touring the Southeast..   I think they have a different kind of sound, from what I hear.

Exactly... the incident with the NFL guys should be the warning everyone needs.  SF goes boating on the Ohio River and the boat has a GPS beacon, for when we take it down to the bigger lakes... never can be too safe about that since the ladies love the midnight cruises.

dlippiel thinks it's hard to be a Rodriguez fan. Seems as if many of his players can't stand him. dlippiel can't wait for college football to start! He also is about as spent with the Joba Chamberlin/ Joe Girardi soap opera. Chamberlin pitched a hearty 3 innings last night. Dude has been in the league 3 years now and has no clue as to his role or his future. Guess it would help if they would make it clear to him. In dlippiel's opinion the Yanks are wasting his potential out of the pen. Joba has sucked in his last few starts period and dlippiel thinks Joba knows it. He bets Chamberlin was embarrassed to be pulled in the third last night because of innings/pitches/whatever. If it was up to Girardi he would attach one of those child leashes to his wrist and to Joba when Joba pitched.

As the resident LLPP Coast Guardian, these guys were saved by keeping cool heads and salvaging supplies.

They could have bee saved faster had they a) had an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon)--those things can give the USCG a coordinate accurate within a mile (maybe even better these days); b) had the salvaged their flares, or other visual distress signals--they would have gotten the attention of the helos they saw but couldn't signal; c) had a decent life raft.

A lot of Rev's non-USCG friends make fun of The Rev for wearing a life jacket every time he steps foot on a boat, but The Rev has yet to drown.  Said life jacket has a strobe and signal mirror.  Now that The Rev saw this story, he is going to add a bottle of drinking water and a couple of energy/granola bars to his kit--maybe even one of those filtered straws.  On the boat, The Rev is ultra prepared.  Some may even say anally-retentive/obsessive compulsive.

Rev you never know and it sounds as if something does happen you will be prepared. As someone with a boat dlippiel feels you are being very smart. +k for boat safety!

anyone else see favre throw that crackback block last night? crazy...he could of taken himself and another player out for good...at least the announcers called him out on it. but imho favre was caught up in the excitement of the game and not trying to permanently injure the safety.

KS is with the Rev, from the time KS was a boy scout, to big bro KS who spent 13 years as a Coastie and from KS training in the Navy.  Always wear a life jacket when on a small boat and when topside on any ship or boat where there is a real danger of going overboard.  KS went out on the CG 44 footers with his brother and everyone from the 1st class who was skipper down to KS was wearing a life jacket and safety harness and was hooked to the boat.

Although the head football coach is going to be the one to blame for something like this, I have to put some blame on the AD and NCAA compliance staff.  A d1 school like Michigan is going to have probably 3-4 fulltime staff that handle compliance issues for things like football practice, recruiting, academics, travel, room/board etc.  Someone from that compliance office should now what each team is doing for practice so that they are in compliance with the NCAA.
