U89 can not figure out why everyone is so high on Utica's turnaround this year.  Utica smoked Becker and Castleton St.....please!!!!

If anything, Utica should be catching heat for scheduling 2 of the bottom 5 or 6 programs in all of D3!!!!

How do we bash RPI for scheduling Endicott, yet praise Utica for a great start and turnaround year for opening the season with 2 beating of teams that would get absolutely smoked by Endicott??

Utica shouldn't be getting accolades for their 2-0.....they should be getting ridicule for scheduling programs that would have difficulty beating even average high school programs.

Sorry DC....not a jab at you, but the reviews of Utica here and on the E8 board are crazy!!!

dlip hears ya and thinks Utica is getting attention for  two reasons:

1.) because they suck every year and for a team that always sucks scoring a lot of points and two early season wins will always garner some attention, even if those wins come against pop warner type teams.

2.) possible a result of the preseason rumors of having so many players in camp and many thinking this may be the start, just start, of a program building towards improvement.

Was it last year or the year before WPI started off well and they were getting some Utica type attention? This may be a similar situation.

U89 is right.  But they still peak my interest a little, since they lost to Becker last year, and now they beat them by 60 a year later.  Then they beat another cupcake by 60 in another game.  Granted Utica has one of the weakest non-league schedules in the history of d3football, but they are doing what they should be doing, and they have to start somewhere.

This. You have to start somewhere. And UC still plays in one of the toughest conferences in d3.

Wow.....U89 just noticed that they play Anna Maria later in the season also.....yikes!!

And Mt. Ida.

But this is Coach Faggiano's second year, so he probably didn't have a say regarding the schedule the past 2 years.  But Utica has been bad for a long time, I can't really blame them for scheduling those teams.  They have to actually win those games before they can be taken seriously anyway right?

This (redux). UC lost to Becker last year. And if I remember correctly, they only lost to Fisher 17-10 last year.

Hmmm chalk up 4 wins for Utica, that helps RPI's OWP.

I think Utica could get 6 or maybe 7 wins.  The four already mentioned: Becker, Castleton St., Anna Maria, and Mt. Ida. But I think they could beat Springfield and Hartwick, that's 6. And maybe they get lucky against RPI or Alfred or maybe even Fisher.

You definitely have to start somewhere and Utica is. dlip feels they will step up their scheduling in the next few years once they begin to make progress. You don't want to be a Wick and have to squeak out last minute wins against the NEFC, even losing to WNEC a few years back. Granted, Salve is better than both teams Utica played but dlip thinks as a young program with a poor reputation the best way to improve, early, is to schedule teams you can compete with and/or beat. That is until a certain point. You don't want to become ****ing RPI and play youth league teams.

Don't think they will beat The Pride this year...but Wick is definitely possible...

RJ -

Although any team would miss players like Aruck, Sanders and Aruck (Patterson btw is a SR this season and he had 2 tackles in the DC game), Hobart's rushing D actually wasn't that great last year - especially early on in the season.

The Statesmen allowed over 200+ yards to Dickinson, CMU and SUS before holding the Larries to 102.  The following week Union (i.e., Chris Coney) ran for over 270.  They would go on to improve their average (about 150/game by end of 08) against MMA (0), WPI (71), RPI (157) and Roch (137).  The difference was last season that Hobart was able to keep opponents out of the end zone 35% more than they have so far this year.

That said TGP expects CMU to grind out 200+ rushing yards on Saturday.  Only difference hopefully will be that Hobart toughens up in the red zone compared to last week.  Dickinson was 3 for 3 against Hobart last Saturday.
TGP - Thanks I had Patterson as a senior last year ... I missed him, he must be a Grad student as he played in 2005 was injuried in 2006 .. Good luck this weekend vs CMU ...

btw classic play by a little girl last night at the phillies game...pbr was LMAO watching the phillies game when they showed this and what happened...good on the dad for giving the daughter a hug when she threw the ball back. phillies players were laughing so hard when they saw the replay they had a front office person go up and give the father/daughter another ball. great catch by the father also leaning over the railing that ball was moving w/ a ton of spin on it....

I thought LLPP would appreciate this photo of Layla Kiffin tailgating before the Tenn-UCLA game:

Layla has been big news in Gator Country lately because she grew up in Gainesville, went to UF, and is the daughter of one of the greatest QBs in Gator history (John Reeves).

pbr is thinking of going heavy on florida this week...urban is quiet but everyone knows he is steaming from kiffin's comments and pbr thinks urban warfare takes tennessee to the woodshed and beats them like a rented mule this week. 29.5 is a lot to give but pbr thinks the gators may ring up over 60 points on the vols this week....

JQV

Urban's silence is speaking volumes.  Plus, I think he is secretly worried about Kiffin's recruiting prowess (he was the recruiting guy that helped Pete Carroll rebuild USC and is already putting together a great class for the second year in a row) and needs something to show recruits that, under no circumstances, should they leave the state.

Kiffin even went so far as to put up Tennessee Football billboards in Miami and Tampa recently.  Rumor has it they are considering a third billboard in Jacksonville which is a similar hotbed of football talent.

Urby knows he needs to humiliate Kiffin to keep his recruiting edge and force Kiffin to head back to California for talent.

California talent cannot beat the talent in the southeast.

hey jose pbr didnt know u owned a motorcycle....

Ocala, Fla. (AP) -- A Marion County deputy pulled over a
naked man riding a motorcycle and charging the man with driving
under the influence. The deputy reported that he was driving on
Interstate 75 early Tuesday morning when he spotted what
appeared to be a naked man on a motorcycle. The deputy caught
up with the 45-year-old man at a red light and stopped him.
The man reportedly could not explain where he was coming
from or why he was naked. The deputy asked him if he had been
drinking, and he reportedly answered that he had. Breathalyzer
tests revealed blood alcohol levels of .178 and a .162. The
state's legal limit to drive is .08.
The man was charged with what turned out to be his fifth
DUI. Jail records showed he was later released on $20,000
bail.

K-Mack

Congrats on 2500 pages, y'all.

So K-Mack needs a little advice from the LLPP. Coming to town this weekend. Definitely going to Rochester-SJF at 7, but for the early game

a) Carnegie Mellon-Hobart (starts at noon and shorter drive)
b) St. Lawrence-Alfred (might need the 1 p.m. kickoff since I fly in that a.m., and have never seen either team play)

Someone in the know, help me decide.

Also, if any of you are in the area on Saturday, definitely drop me a line. Keith@D3football.com or the ATN board or here or whatever.

(secretly wants Tennessee to magically pull out a W on Saturday, FWIW)
