I don't know what you're asking, Frank.  Union losing to now 1-2 Muhlenberg by a score of 17-7 was a disappointing result for Union, especially considering that Union was coming off its big win over then-No. 8 ranked Ithaca.

"Laying an egg" doesn't seem like an inaccurate way to describe Union losing to Muhlenberg.

I've never associated the phrase with a shutout.  I'd be surprised if most people interpret the phrase as narrowly as you did.  I'm not criticizing your interpretation.  I'm trying not to be sarcastic, too.

I would be as surprised as you if RJ's predictions come true.

Well, riddle me this, Red one.  How would RPI have performed against said "lowly" Muhlenberg team. And if RPI lost such a game by a 17-7 score, with one side of the ball performing excellently all day, would you consider the Engineers to have "laid an egg?"

If RPI had lost to now 1-2 Muhlenberg 17-7 after beating a top ten ranked team, why wouldn't you say RPI "laid an egg?" I'd say RPI laid an egg last year against USMMA.

It's okay for you to associate "laying an egg" with a shutout.  I just think--as you criticize DewCrew for how he (not you) used the phrase--that you might want to know others interpret that phrase more broadly, to mean a disappointing result.

After coming off the big win versus Ithaca, the offense scored seven points against the Mules. Now we see that Muhlenberg has been mediocre. To me, that's laying an egg. Why so critical this week, Frank?

A mediocre Mules team would probably stomp
this year's Utica team...

And critical for the sake of journalistic integrity and the upholding of the standards of the site.

Stomp? Is that a 14-point victory? Come on, counselor. And the way the Pioneers are playing today, yeah, the Mules would stomp the **** out of them.

RedSwarm: How would you characterize RPI's performance today?

Dewcrew: Insert "Rochester" into all the spots you pre-inserted "Utica" for this week's ATE...

I guess I'd have to characterize RPI's performance as frustrating.  I was certainly frustrated with RPI's performance.  It was frustrating that they were never more than a single score from the lead.  RPI didn't come in with especially high expectations--it's not as if they knocked off a legendary national power the week before.

I didn't get to pay that close attention to the streaming audio, so I wasn't able to tell if RPI did better running and passing to the near side or to the far side.

I know Hermann didn't play.

I find Frank Rossi's performance confusing.  Getting all OCD over the phrase "laid an egg," and aiming criticism like a laser beam at Dew for using that phrase to describe a performance that did not include a shutout, . . . confusing.

may gro play devil's advocate for a second?

Ok where were we? I'll say this LD, RPI always seems to have these games where they NEVER MAKE ADJUSTMENTS or change their play calling if it is not working. Its frustrating. Gro is frustrated. Gro needs to de-frustify for a while.
