Why is it that the guys who started out saying that A-Rod wasn't being thrown at ended up arguing that it's okay to throw at batters?

I'm an A-Rod Apologist to the end. Yeah he's a prima donna. He's also in the top five of hitters any of you have ever seen, with or without steroids. I can't believe some of the stuff you guys come up with against him. Yes he cheated on his wife and goes to hooters. The Red Sox have an employee whose sole job it is to keep players' mistresses away from their wives. Our false idolization of ballplayers was supposed to have ended in the 70s. Take a long look at your favorite ballplayer and ask yourself if you want to know everything about their personal lives. Appreciate the product on the field.

That being said, I hate Posada because he's an asshole, he's been an asshole to me personally, and it hurts his team (e.g. arguing with the ump like a bitch last night when it's your job to win the ump over). That's well-documented. I've never seen evidence that A-Rod is an asshole; a prima donna, a baby, a player, maybe. But there are PLENTY of those around baseball, and he is far from the premiere example of any of those. Just gotta accept it and move on.

Be honest: you hate him because he plays for the Yankees. I've heard nothing but good things about Youk. I hate him because he plays for the Sox. I would never extend that to some kind of moralistic judgment based on tabloid reports.

+k Max nice!

Why is the Karma sniper such a bitch. Mother****er if you don't like something dlip says have a pair and take the K. To be a sneaky bitch on a ****ing computer is just....well it is just plain wrong.

I've honestly never understood why you would smite someone.... I mean, a message board is already a place you can go off on someone in total anonymity!

You can even post under a different name like certain disgruntled fisher fans!

No.  Here are the top 5 hitters I have laid eyes on.

1) Bonds.

Juice or not, you have never seen hands that fast.  I leaned against the cage and watched every swing.  Most amazing thing I have ever seen.

2) Manny.

Juice doesn't help you center the ball on the bat.  The guy has better contact that any player I have ever seen.  Also, juice doesn't help your balance.  Manny's timing and balance are amazing.  How many times have you seen Manny fooled?

3) Ichiro.

He does it all and does it all well.  Another guy that centers the ball on every swing and doesn't mi**** the ball.  There are two amazing things about Ichiro when you see him in person:  1.  During BP he hits bombs at will, to all fields.  I never understood why he doesn't hit for power during the games but I suspect it is because Seattle can't get anyone on base in front of him.  2.  He studies pitchers harder than anyone.  His first year in the league the guy would sit in his dugout and watch guys throw side sessions.

4)  Harold Baines

Maybe the most pure swing I have ever seen in person (right there with Palmeiro but it is hard to take Raffy seriously because he was nothing pre-juice).

5) Edgar Martinez

I saw him a lot before the unbalanced schedule debuted and less after.  Either way, I never saw him fooled.  Ever.  It seemed like he never swung at a pitcher's pitch and it seemed like he never leaned or reached for anything.  Such an underrated player.
An unorthodox choice

A list of unorthodox, thoughtful choices. Also, it didn't include Jim Rice. +k

Mr. Ypsi

JQV,

While your list doesn't go back to Musial, Aaron, etc. (much less Williams), no room on there for Albert Pujols?

dlip always thought highly of Mr Edgar and gives Viper credit for the mention, but dude, not better than Sterod, no ****in way. People may not like this dude but that should not take away from his pure ****in skill and hitting ability, which is downright nasty.

Good post. While not an ARod fan, it's more because he tries to hard and I'm just uncomfortable with people like that, think he's a phony, but I don't think he's an a**hole. And I agree on Posada (we may be the only ones), the reaction to Molina catching Burnett didn't surprise me at all. My wife can't understand it, and I can't explain it to her, I just think he's an a**hole. Someone on MLB last night saying that Posada's hit in the 9th was more important than ARod's last night almost put me over the edge. The only thing that stopped me was that Mitch Williams was the one making the comment, and the irony of him of all people bashing Lidge made me smile.

With all of the attention on ARod, how about Damon's at bat? Reminded me of one of Paul O'Neil's at bats back in one of the '90's World Series, where he just wouldn't quit.

While I don't agree with your top 5, nice recall of Edgar Martinez, very good hitter. And the Ichiro in BP thing always amazed me as well, my brother-in-law has Mariners season tickets, and used to go early sometimes just to watch it. I think he becomes a singles hitter in games because he's interested in his hit's total, pure and simple. I think that's the reason he doesn't walk much either, just wants to get hits.

We just assumed since everyone has written off any and every LL football team (and east region team for that matter), that they were just going to cancel the rest of the season.  It's either that or they're going to import 8 teams from the South/ North, and export all of the east teams out of region.

JT threw at batters because he had great control.  Its science.  Refer to Bull Durham vis a vis Nuke LaLouche when he hit the mascot on purpose late in the flick.  A-Rod needed to go to first, and let his pitcher pick a spot to drill a Phillie.  What A-Rod wound up doing was taking that option away.

JT likes the fact that A-Rod is playing for the Yankees. At times, he has failed to man up in his actions. He's been much better after the hip. And regardless of the roids... he's one of the best ballplayers JT has even seen.

JT top five hitters (that he's seen)

1) Rod Carew

2) George Brett

3) Tony Gwynn

4) Ichiro

5) Manny

Dlip that sheet - the season is far from over!

TGP for one is looking forward to the RPI-Bart game this Saturday.

TGP has dialed up Coach Cragg and the sprinklers are on.  In fact, this picture was taken earlier today during lacrosse fall ball practice:

I wouldn't look at the top 25 and count the East out yet. This ain't the BCS.
