JT top five hitters (that he's seen)

1) Rod Carew

Why is it that the guys who started out saying that A-Rod wasn't being thrown at ended up arguing that it's okay to throw at batters?

I'm an A-Rod Apologist to the end. Yeah he's a prima donna. He's also in the top five of hitters any of you have ever seen, with or without steroids. I can't believe some of the stuff you guys come up with against him. Yes he cheated on his wife and goes to hooters. The Red Sox have an employee whose sole job it is to keep players' mistresses away from their wives. Our false idolization of ballplayers was supposed to have ended in the 70s. Take a long look at your favorite ballplayer and ask yourself if you want to know everything about their personal lives. Appreciate the product on the field.

That being said, I hate Posada because he's an asshole, he's been an asshole to me personally, and it hurts his team (e.g. arguing with the ump like a bitch last night when it's your job to win the ump over). That's well-documented. I've never seen evidence that A-Rod is an asshole; a prima donna, a baby, a player, maybe. But there are PLENTY of those around baseball, and he is far from the premiere example of any of those. Just gotta accept it and move on.

Be honest: you hate him because he plays for the Yankees. I've heard nothing but good things about Youk. I hate him because he plays for the Sox. I would never extend that to some kind of moralistic judgment based on tabloid reports.

JT threw at batters because he had great control.  Its science.  Refer to Bull Durham vis a vis Nuke LaLouche when he hit the mascot on purpose late in the flick.  A-Rod needed to go to first, and let his pitcher pick a spot to drill a Phillie.  What A-Rod wound up doing was taking that option away.

JT likes the fact that A-Rod is playing for the Yankees. At times, he has failed to man up in his actions. He's been much better after the hip. And regardless of the roids... he's one of the best ballplayers JT has even seen.

JT, U89 can see we are around the same age.....I would import Wade Boggs at the #5 spot and bounce Manny.  When Manny hits a cold streak, it can take him a while to get it together again.  When Manny is on, he's as good as anyone.....when he goes cold, it can last longer that it should for an elite hitter to come out of that funk.

Hobart '89 grad and (former) Brown's GM canned:

Browns fire GM Kokinis

Funny how Mangini gets to stick around but the GM gets canned after 9 mos.

If Posada's an asshole, then Dana DeMuth is a wider, more gaping, stankier asshole.

Youkilis has a shaved head.  That implicates him as an HGH user.

Teixeira, on the other hand, looks rather . . . um, . . . doughy.  What's that all about?

If you intentionally threw at batters, you should have been tossed.  If your coach knew about it, he should have been banned from coaching.

I prefer honest athletic competition.  Throwing at a batter is illegal.  If you want to argue that the rules should permit a pitcher to throw at a batter, at least be honest about it.  Encouraging rulebreaking is not good sportsmanship.

When I was in SF, I often saw Tony Gwynn play at Candlestick Park, where the young Will Clark had a mechanically perfect swing.  I saw Willie Mays and Rod Carew and George Brett play long before I knew how to study hitters in a geeky OCD-wannabe way.  I don't know how any human being can ever be a better hitter than Gwynn was in his prime.

If Posada's an asshole, then what does that make Manny?  How does Albert Belle compare to those ani?

Boggs certainly had that soft serve into left field down to perfection.  And maybe he should be picked over Manny since Boggs stuck to the Miller Lites and not the roids.

Never had a problem with Posada, and JT's met him a bunch.  Actually, Jeter is probably the most distant of all the Yanks JT has met.  Yogi and Phil Rizzuto are/were the best as far as down-to-earth Yankees.  Used to caddie for their foursome sometimes.  Great tippers and great story tellers.

JT thinks Girardi just over managed tonight.  This was a throw a way game.  Let the Phils waste their best pitcher and throw Gaudin.  Then you have AJ on full rest for game 6 and Pettite/CC for game 7. Now he's weakened his pitching options heading back NY.

could be and now with rain in the forecast the yankme's better win game 6 because lee is back in the picture if thursday night gets rained out and phils would have all the mo' and lee going in game 7....and A-roid is an azz...any guy who has a life size picture of himself on the ceiling as a centaur above his bed and pictures of himself all around his house deserves whatever life ish the fans give him.

JQV,

While your list doesn't go back to Musial, Aaron, etc. (much less Williams), no room on there for Albert Pujols?

I worked in the American League and Pujols was nicked up for St. Louis's one interleague stopover.  I did sit in the clubhouse with Hal McRae, George Kissell (an IC legend that has been a roving hitting instructor with the Cardinals since the 50s -- Good story, just saw him in the clubhouse wearing an IC hat and started chatting), and Deacon Jones (another IC baseball legend and former major leaguer that is an advance scout for a few different teams now) and talked about Pujols for a while.  They all agreed he was the most pure hitter any had ever seen.  But I never got to actually see him swing it so he didn't make my list.

We have some well-rounded and life experienced mother****ers on this board. The only dude dlip ever met was Bob Feller and he was a serious asshole. +k to the last page for the LLPP's ****in exposure and experiences in the sports world. Damn dlip loves the LLPP!

Is the LL football season over?

We just assumed since everyone has written off any and every LL football team (and east region team for that matter), that they were just going to cancel the rest of the season.  It's either that or they're going to import 8 teams from the South/ North, and export all of the east teams out of region.

I wouldn't look at the top 25 and count the East out yet. This ain't the BCS.

Said with tongue firmly planted in cheek. That's the point, looking at the Top 25, you'd think that they consider the east Division IV.
